Intro

(31s) Codey:

Hello farmers and welcome to another episode of the harvest season. My name is Codey. And

(36s) Chelsea:

And my name is Chelsea. Woo! Woo!

(38s) Codey:

we are here today to talk about cottagecore games. Oh, woo. Oh, oh, oh. Specifically,

(47s)

we have Chelsea on here as our neopets correspondent. So we’re going to talk about neopets today.

(53s) Chelsea:

I’ve studied my whole life for this moment.

(1m 1s) Codey:

Which is a little different than like normal cottagecore games, but it sure does have that

(1m 6s)

cottagecore feeling in our hearts, right? And so I think so. Yeah, somewhere in there.

(1m 9s) Chelsea:

I think so. Deep in our warm fuzzies.

(1m 16s) Codey:

I will also mention I am not firing on all cylinders today. I have I don’t know what’s

(1m 21s)

up, but I feel like I have vertigo a little bit. But sitting in front of a microphone

(1m 26s)

and not moving shouldn’t be a problem, so we’re gonna see how this goes.

(1m 31s)

Thanks!

(1m 32s) Chelsea:

I think you’re doing great.

(1m 32s) Codey:

Okay, so we’re gonna talk about neopets.

(1m 38s)

Before that, we have some game news, but before that we’re gonna talk about what we have been

What Have We Been Up To

(1m 41s) Codey:

up to.

(1m 42s)

Chelsea, what have you been up to?

(1m 44s) Chelsea:

Kids are back to school, uh, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is coming out, life complete.

(1m 49s) Codey:

Mm-hmm have you that not attained yet?

(1m 49s) Chelsea:

Um, step one, obtain a Switch 2.

(1m 56s)

Not yet.

(1m 56s) Codey:

Okay.

(1m 57s) Chelsea:

And then I was like, “Oh, maybe I’ll look at the pre-orders.”

(1m 59s)

They’re gone.

(1m 59s) Codey:

Yep there and it’s gone.

(2m) Chelsea:

They’re gone.

(2m 1s)

And they’re gone.

(2m 3s) Codey:

Um yeah I need to also secure a switch to uh not necessarily a Zelda edition.

(2m 9s)

Oh it’s just 500 bucks that’s not that bad.

(2m 12s)

That’s not that bad.

(2m 13s) Chelsea:

Cries in Canadian, I think ours without without a game. I think it’s 679

(2m 19s) Codey:

Yeah this is without a game it’s but it’s still 500.

(2m 23s)

Which is like I don’t know not that not that bad.

(2m 27s)

Uh it’s so oh.

(2m 27s) Chelsea:

No, and I looked into maybe trading in one of our switches

(2m 30s)

because we have a few and it’s like $80 a game stop.

(2m 33s)

I’m like, yeah, no, you’re not helping the stereotypes.

(2m 37s) Codey:

Yeah maybe I should do that too because we have two switches right now and I don’t.

(2m 43s)

So I feel like there’s something weird about that.

(2m 45s)

Like, they won’t let you play.

(2m 49s)

like certain game. I don’t know. I guess I’m trying to think about, like, if I have any game saves

(2m 54s)

that are, like, precious and dear to me, and I really don’t think that that’s true.

(2m 59s) Chelsea:

Yeah, I have my Animal Crossing Island, so we would just use one of the other ones, I think, to trade in.

(3m 3s) Codey:

Yeah. Yeah, I don’t. I’m not that worried about it. And Jeff is, uh, my husband has, we, so he,

(3m 4s) Chelsea:

Um, well, we shall see.

(3m 11s) Codey:

he got a Steam Deck, and that’s pretty much all that I’ve been playing lately as well. He actually

(3m 15s)

no longer gets to play his steam deck because I have co-opted it as

(3m 19s)

my organizing game device.

(3m 23s) Chelsea:

Well, in your vows, what’s his is yours.

(3m 26s) Codey:

That’s true. We didn’t have Vows, but yeah, he’s aware. He understands.

(3m 30s) Chelsea:

He knows what’s up.

(3m 33s) Codey:

A lot of the time we’ll be playing, um, like he’ll, we’ll be on the couch at night and he’ll

(3m 38s)

like pull out his laptop to play a game that he could play on his steam deck. And then I just try

(3m 43s)

and hand him a steam deck and he’s like, no, no, I know how it is. Like keep, keep sorting.

(3m 49s)

Well, it’s just funny because I like offer it to him and he’s like, no, no, it’s fine.

(3m 50s) Chelsea:

Leave me and my arcane library out of it.

(3m 58s)

how nice of you to join us for an evening of gaming on the steam deck

(3m 59s) Codey:

So exactly.

(4m 5s) Chelsea:

yeah what have you been up to

(4m 7s) Codey:

Um, so I am officially fully moved in to New Jersey. Um, and I have already, so I started

(4m 15s)

volunteering at the American Museum of Natural History.

(4m 19s)

totally cool. I was fully expecting them to have like dozens of volunteers behind the scenes that

(4m 26s)

of people like me who got a degree but moved to the area and don’t really have anything particular

(4m 32s)

going on like all of the jobs that I have right now are these like little part-time gigs where

(4m 38s)

like people send me stuff to identify and I identify it for them and then send it back and

(4m 42s)

then other than that I’m working on like my own projects and stuff so I kind of have like I can

(4m 49s)

volunteer my life however I wanted to be right now and so it I was like oh I have I basically

(4m 55s)

have time to volunteer at the museum and I was like I wonder if they’ll be able to take me in

(5m 2s)

and they they actually have none volunteers so yeah there’s not as many people most of the

(5m 2s) Chelsea:

Cool.

(5m 6s)

None?

(5m 10s) Codey:

volunteers so I just did volunteer orientation yesterday and there are they said there are 1100

(5m 16s)

volunteers at AMNH, but the majority of them

(5m 19s)

are mostly front-facing, so it’s like the people that are giving little tours or

(5m 27s)

working at the information desk. The majority of those people are actually volunteering.

(5m 33s)

And then there are some of us who are “behind the scenes,” and so I don’t really work with

(5m 41s)

any of the public at all. I’m going to be in the collections, and the people that I’m going to be

(5m 47s)

volunteering for.

(5m 49s)

say that they just they have like maybe two volunteers right now but they’re not sure if

(5m 53s)

they’re gonna be around really because they’ve had like commitment changes lately and stuff

(5m 57s)

and so they don’t really have anything and the collections that i’m working with are take up like

(6m 4s)

more than half of all of the invertebrate collections and so it’s like a good amount

(6m 8s) Chelsea:

Oh wow.

(6m 10s) Codey:

of but and like the big part is the lepidoptera so the butterflies and the moths and the butterfly

(6m 15s)

collection on its own takes up so much space.

(6m 19s)

to do. I’m going to start with the butterfly. I’m going to start with the butterfly. I’m

(6m 29s) Chelsea:

No.

(6m 32s)

Okay, then yes.

(6m 47s) Codey:

he donated a bunch of them to

(6m 49s)

the American Museum of Natural History. And so, and they have them there. And when the curator was

(6m 54s)

giving me a tour, he like pointed out that they now have like a front facing exhibit that you can

(6m 59s)

like, as you’re going and looking at the collections core, there’s like a couple boxes, like

(7m 5s)

drawers, insect drawers of butterflies. And he’s like, these are an abacos butterflies. And I put

(7m 9s)

them here because we get media requests for these butterflies all the time. And so I was giving a

(7m 15s)

lot of tours to people back behind the scenes to look at these butterflies.

(7m 19s)

So now I can just be like, “Oh yeah, there they are.”

(7m 21s)

You don’t have to come behind the scenes, you can just look at them right there.

(7m 25s) Chelsea:

Just open the drawer.

(7m 27s) Codey:

We’ll not even open the door, it’s part of the exhibits now.

(7m 34s)

So it’s really cool and that’s been really fun to start becoming integrated in there.

(7m 39s)

So I’ve done three days so far and I now have my badge so I now can get in and get around

(7m 46s)

for free.

(7m 47s)

You don’t have to have someone come and babysit me.

(7m 49s)

And then yeah, and then I’m going to be getting an email, an AMNH email soon, which is pretty

(7m 50s) Chelsea:

Oh good, you get your behind the scenes access.

(7m 58s) Codey:

cool.

(7m 59s)

So and then on top of all that, I’ve been doing organizing games.

(8m 4s)

I would say the first organizing game I’m playing is apartment organization, which is

(8m 10s)

not as fun as the others, but I finished Big Bad Pharma, which is the pharmacy game.

(8m 19s)

Fixed the kerfuffle that we were having where for some reason, like American Express and

(8m 25s)

Steam were like fighting over the seven dollars or whatever it was that this game cost.

(8m 29s) Chelsea:

Yeah, yeah, I remember that.

(8m 32s) Codey:

And so but they’ve they figured it out.

(8m 35s)

So we’re fine. So I’m playing it again.

(8m 37s)

Well, I finished it. And so I 100 percent of that.

(8m 39s)

And then I just picked up Sort Them Ducks and this is a ducks, a rubber ducky game.

(8m 44s) Chelsea:

Oh my gosh. Elaborate. Oh my gosh.

(8m 49s) Codey:

And so it’s just like a space that has shelves and there’s like categories.

(8m 54s)

There’s like Beach is a category.

(8m 56s)

There’s Mafia category and that category has an Al Capone duck and an Al Capone’s wife

(9m 2s)

and a goon and a detective and an accountant.

(9m 6s) Chelsea:

Oh my god, I’m looking at this right now.

(9m 8s) Codey:

It’s such a silly little game.

(9m 9s) Chelsea:

$7.97, yep.

(9m 11s) Codey:

Yeah, these games cost like nothing.

(9m 12s) Chelsea:

That’s gonna go on.

(9m 14s) Codey:

It’s nuts, but it’s.

(9m 15s) Chelsea:

Developer Mr. Duck.

(9m 16s) Codey:

It’s really fun, and the, um…

(9m 19s)

Some of the other, like, uh, ducks that you can find, like, as you’re going through, you can, they have, like, the people that backed the game, like, the highest backers or whatever, they have ducks of their own, and so as you’re sorting, you might come upon, like, an @whatever duck, like, whatever the content creator is, and then there’s, in a special room, there’s, like, a place to put those ducks.

(9m 46s) Chelsea:

Oh, this is such a good backer idea.

(9m 47s) Codey:

Yeah, it’s really cute. I just realized

(9m 49s)

I found the mr. Duck one and I had no idea what to do with it

(9m 52s)

And now I realize because there’s like five or six

(9m 56s)

Spaces that you can put like the content creator ducks like the backer ducks

(9m 59s)

But then there’s one space across the room that I was like, I don’t know what this is for

(10m 5s)

And then I realized I found mr. Duck the other day. I was like, I don’t know where you go

(10m 9s)

I’m just gonna throw you back in the pile. And now I’m like, oh heck wait, that’s he’s probably the special

(10m 11s) Chelsea:

That’s THE duck, that’s Sir Duck.

(10m 15s) Codey:

Now that you said the developer

(10m 19s)

No

(10m 19s) Chelsea:

Now I gotta go find him back in the pile.

(10m 22s)

Wow, what did my voice just do there?

(10m 23s)

Now I gotta go find them back in the pile.

(10m 25s) Codey:

Yeah, one of my many piles so

(10m 26s) Chelsea:

Ah, that looks fun.

(10m 28s)

Yeah, I might be doing that.

(10m 29s) Codey:

It’s a it’s a cute little game it’s definitely worth it so

(10m 34s) Chelsea:

No rush, no pressure, just ducks, is what it says.

(10m 35s) Codey:

Just ducks. Yep, and sometimes when you I don’t know if it’s every time when you pick them up or if it’s only sometimes but

(10m 41s)

Like I’ll pick them up and they make like a little quack noise

(10m 45s)

I don’t know if it’s just that I have my

(10m 49s)

switch or the steam

(10m 51s)

volume really low

(10m 53s)

And that’s why I only hear it sometimes or what I don’t know it’s cute though

(11m)

Yeah, so that is what we have been up to oh

Game News

(11m 6s) Codey:

Okay, so jumping into news now first up we have little witch in the woods

Little Witch In The Woods

(11m 11s) Codey:

Has a release date trailer and a new release date. So it is coming to switch on

(11m 17s)

September 16th.

(11m 19s)

And the release date trailer is pretty cute, kind of shows some of the mechanics in the game that are kind of unique, I think, that looked pretty nice.

(11m 31s)

At one point in the trailer, there was a cat that you threw a fish at or something. I’m not entirely sure what happened, but it then flops onto its side.

(11m 40s)

It looked really cute. You zoom around on a broom, so it looks like they’re a sprint mechanic or whatever.

(11m 49s)

just you on a broom. dash. um and then it also looks like there’s a research mechanic so there’s

(11m 50s) Chelsea:

  • Oh my God.

(11m 51s)

  • Dash on your broom.

(11m 56s) Codey:

a there was a um like creature that was walking around and then you kind of like your character

(12m 3s)

is like scribbling a notebook and then it opens up the encyclopedia and like that page is now

(12m 8s)

generated and it has like information about that so I don’t know if there’s like if that’s kind of

(12m 13s)

like a research mechanic kind of like research story or if it’s just i’m not I don’t know

(12m 19s)

I don’t know but it looked cool I was like oh that’s cool like it is kind of a world

(12m 23s)

that you can explore and and better understand um yeah it looks cute oh dang okay cool yeah that’s

(12m 29s) Chelsea:

  • Yeah, it looks super cute.

(12m 31s)

That comes out next week too, September 16th.

(12m 35s) Codey:

wow we’re flying through september y’all

(12m 40s)

oh my gosh um next up is Pokopia so we have more deal more details on the dlc

Pokopia

(12m 47s) Codey:

Um, the 2nd, part of the DLC that is coming.

(12m 50s)

So, uh, in this DLC, there are many different accessories, so it kind of showed off a lot of the different accessories.

(12m 57s)

Including, uh…

(12m 58s) Chelsea:

Dodo duo wheeling some sunglasses.

(13m) Codey:

[laughs]

(13m 1s)

Yeah, including some sunglasses, which is really cute.

(13m 5s)

Of course, they had a squirrel showing off the sunglasses.

(13m 8s)

There’s a couple different types of bows, um, very cute.

(13m 12s)

And they also added new Pokémon, so they added Skitty, Doduo, and Snubbull.

(13m 16s)

I’m very excited. I still don’t have this game.

(13m 19s)

I’m still not going to get this game, but I was very happy to see Skitty.

(13m 22s)

I love Skitty.

(13m 25s)

It’s just such a cute little g…, cute little Pokémon.

(13m 28s)

And I don’t know, Chelsea, do you know what is special about Skitty in the Pokédex in Pokémon Go?

(13m 35s)

It is the only Pokémon facing left.

(13m 36s) Chelsea:

what is it oh my oh I did not know that

(13m 39s) Codey:

So every other Pokémon, to my knowledge, in the Pokémon Go Pokédex is facing to the right or something like that.

(13m 49s) Chelsea:

uh

(13m 49s) Codey:

It’s just like, screw you, I do what I want.

(13m 52s)

It’s facing the opposite direction.

(13m 52s) Chelsea:

a fellow lefty icon I love it

(13m 55s) Codey:

Oh my gosh, speaking of lefty icon, did you see the new iPhone that’s releasing or whatever?

(14m 4s)

Okay, so they’re releasing a new iPhone and that phone now has a touch instead of having a face ID because that doesn’t work with how it’s shaped.

(14m 5s) Chelsea:

No, why would

(14m 19s) Codey:

They now are going to have a touch, like a thumbprint marker or whatever.

(14m 23s)

And you just do that by touching the power button, which is on the right side of the phone.

(14m 28s)

Which is like left-handed people get screwed.

(14m 29s) Chelsea:

No, it’s not.

(14m 35s) Codey:

You’re not going to be able to just automatically open.

(14m 37s) Chelsea:

Yeah, I’m left-handed.

(14m 41s) Codey:

And it pitches it.

(14m 43s)

All you have to do is just put your finger over here and it just unlocks immediately.

(14m 49s)

And you’re like, oh no!

(14m 51s) Chelsea:

I’m not holding it that way.

(14m 52s) Codey:

That’s not, left-handed people are not, their thumb is not over there, my guy.

(14m 57s) Chelsea:

Oh, they don’t have like an accessibility. They’ll release the exclusive left handed mode later.

(15m 2s) Codey:

Or just a flop, like, I can’t, that’d be so funny if there’s just a swapped iPhone.

(15m 8s)

There’s just a left-handed iPhone that has the power button on the other side, I doubt it.

(15m 11s) Chelsea:

Well, I remember on the Google Pixel, you could do the thumbprint on the back, I think.

(15m 11s) Codey:

Okay.

(15m 17s) Chelsea:

And I was able to use my left hand, I think.

(15m 19s)

I’m pretty sure.

(15m 20s)

This was a few years ago.

(15m 21s)

But I have an Apple now, but I don’t know.

(15m 24s)

I don’t know about how I feel about that.

(15m 26s) Codey:

  • Well, it’s also like a folding phone, so who knows?

(15m 27s) Chelsea:

Oh, it’s that one.

(15m 28s) Codey:

I, I’m a little sus.

(15m 32s)

Yeah, I’m a little sus about the folding phones myself.

(15m 36s)

If I’m gonna, if I want a phone that folds,

(15m 37s) Chelsea:

Yeah, I was literally about to say Razor and Shambles, no, I want a Razor.

(15m 38s) Codey:

I’m gonna get a Razr.

(15m 39s)

Come on now.

(15m 44s) Chelsea:

And then a few years ago when the Barbie movie released, they had the Nokia Barbie phone.

(15m 50s)

It was a pink flip phone, and when you open it, it goes, “Hi, Barbie!”

(15m 52s) Codey:

yeah oh my gosh

(15m 54s) Chelsea:

And then the first contact in there is Ken.

(15m 57s)

And I want it so bad because I am so sick of, like, I’m just going to brick my phone, make it boring.

(16m 2s) Codey:

yeah this is the the year of people going analog is what they call it

(16m 7s) Chelsea:

Yes! Do you remember Hit Clips?

(16m 9s) Codey:

yeah like the little like a song in a 30 second clip

(16m 12s) Chelsea:

You would get, like, a 30-second clip. It would just repeat ad nauseum.

(16m 17s) Codey:

Yeah, it was like a it was like a Game Boy.

(16m 18s) Chelsea:

And we were thankful for the opportunity.

(16m 23s) Codey:

that just had 30 seconds of a of a song

(16m 26s) Chelsea:

Yes!

(16m 26s) Codey:

you could put into the little thing. Oh, my goodness.

(16m 29s)

Y’all, this is a nostalgia episode. Just a heads up.

(16m 32s) Chelsea:

It is. Heads up, 90s kids unite.

(16m 34s) Codey:

We’re coming.

Disney Dreamlight Valley

(16m 36s) Codey:

Next up is Disney Dreamlight Valley.

(16m 38s)

So they have a new DLC coming out called the Keepsake Sea.

(16m 42s)

It adds underwater.

(16m 44s)

And Al said, huh?

(16m 46s)

A cozy game with farming getting an underwater DLC in 2026.

(16m 50s)

how original.

(16m 52s)

um Al being spicy he has some he has some awesome comments on some of these things so uh and in

(16m 59s)

the underwater you’ll see it adds mermaid tails which I kind of like so when i’ve been playing

(17m 3s)

this game so far like ariel is just in the water and there is a water source in like all of the

(17m 9s)

different zones but it just feels like ariel’s just kind of like left out because she doesn’t

(17m 16s)

get to like there’s like the shop or whatever though I think they did add it so that she has

(17m 20s)

has like leg, they gave her.

(17m 22s)

Legs at one point, but at the beginning it’s like she was just yeah, she was just stuck

(17m 23s) Chelsea:

Just, just watching from the ocean.

(17m 25s) Codey:

in any like water source.

(17m 28s)

So I kind of like the idea of adding an underwater component and like you get a tail like I think

(17m 34s)

Ursula like curses you or something like gives you the ability to have a tail and it shows

(17m 40s)

that you can add like a new underwater so you can basically like put houses underwater

(17m 45s)

now for like the people that have underwater houses, which was really cool.

(17m 52s)

They’ve also added some new characters.

(17m 54s)

So they’re adding Meg from Hercules, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean

(17m 59s)

and Al wrote the guy from Atlantis and he said he didn’t remember his name and his name

(18m 4s)

is Milo.

(18m 5s)

Al, come on now.

(18m 6s) Chelsea:

I love how we both jumped on it. Milo!

(18m 7s) Codey:

Milo Thatch.

(18m 8s) Chelsea:

Yeah, come on. Get with it.

(18m 10s) Codey:

Yeah, so when they show Captain Jack Sparrow and like all the characters at one point you’re

(18m 10s) Chelsea:

Please read this comment that’s underneath there.

(18m 19s) Codey:

like running down the dock he’s running

(18m 22s)

like an idiot and like I get that in the in those games like sorry in the

(18m 29s)

movies Captain Jack Sparrow does he never runs normal so like I get it but

(18m 34s)

the way it’s just the way he runs is just so it’s goofy on another level so

(18m 41s) Chelsea:

He’s got those heavy boots on!

(18m 41s) Codey:

he those boots are not that I don’t know so there is that and that is coming out

(18m 50s)

I don’t, I don’t know if it has…

(18m 52s)

a date I think it just said like soon or whatever and then next up is outbound

(18m 59s)

they have a wildlife…

(18m 59s) Chelsea:

Oh sorry, it says, “Tune in to our showcase stream on October 21st.”

(19m 6s)

So, hopefully around then.

(19m 8s) Codey:

Yeah, so maybe we’ll get a release date on October 21st for that next up is outbound

Outbound

(19m 13s) Codey:

They have a new update the wildlife update coming in fall in air quotes

(19m 18s)

They have a little teaser video. The teaser video itself is just showing the mechanic of taking photos of the camera

(19m 26s)

and

(19m 27s)

They say quote a lively world full of wild animals birds and insects

(19m 31s)

So I’m super excited to take photos of insects you guys I want to see some really cute

(19m 38s)

of insects like

(19m 39s)

Pollinating or eating things or I don’t know just cute cute stuff. I want to see it

(19m 44s)

And the camera has a lot of customization options. So it showed that was what the teaser video shows

(19m 52s)

and basically there’s

(19m 54s)

You can like change the saturation and the brightness and the contrast you can also change the depth of field, which I really liked

(20m 2s)

Because that is something that like is not really like you can choose what

(20m 8s)

It that’s in your frame

(20m 11s)

And they show it happening with like I think it’s an elk

(20m 15s)

Of like you focusing on the elk and it was really cool

(20m 18s)

And Al’s comment is I moaned about fishing because as a concept it felt like it didn’t fit well in this game

(20m 25s)

But photos of wildlife perfect more like this

(20m 28s)

correct

(20m 29s) Chelsea:

He’s not- he’s not a fishing fan, eh, in these games.

(20m 31s) Codey:

Well, it’s just it’s it’s a little weird to add

(20m 35s)

fishing in outbound because you are at sea.

(20m 38s)

You’re mostly just like exploring really and fishing didn’t seem to fit that as well.

(20m 48s) Chelsea:

Yeah, maybe diving would have made more sense.

(20m 50s) Codey:

Yeah yeah but anyway the next big update after this is the big NPC update and that is basically

(21m)

because most of the NPCs currently in the game are like on vacation or something. If you go

(21m 5s)

into their houses or come upon their houses they…

(21m 8s)

there are notes on it that are like come on in use whatever you need we’re not

(21m 12s)

here and we won’t be here and like one of them is like please water the cactus

(21m 17s)

or something like that so that’ll be interesting to finally have NPCs in the

(21m 22s)

game and like other people to interact with next up is the farmer was replaced

(21m 28s)

so they have a new DLC I don’t know if it’s a DLC or just an update but it is

(21m 35s)

called “The Miner” was replaced.

(21m 38s) Chelsea:

  • Uh-huh.

(21m 38s) Codey:

And this is releasing on November 2nd, and it adds that third dimension so it’s instead of

(21m 47s)

Going across like a 2d space like you are actually going deep

(21m 51s)

The con or like lower down and the comment or the quote is “the DLC adds a brand new section to the unlocked tree with

(21m 57s)

plenty of new things to discover

(21m 59s)

Mine resources like coal and quartz sort mushrooms grow rice on clay and solve a minesweeper

(22m 6s)

inspired challenge, and much more.

(22m 8s)

And I got really excited about the Minesweeper thing.

(22m 11s)

Um, like once you hit a certain level depth, um, there’s a

(22m 16s)

Minesweeper challenge at the bottom.

(22m 18s)

And I, I actually just got a new phone game.

(22m 23s)

That’s like infinite Minesweeper or something like that.

(22m 26s) Chelsea:

Amazing.

(22m 27s) Codey:

Um, because I just loved this game so much as a kid.

(22m 30s)

And so, uh, 10 out of 10, I’m excited to try and figure out

(22m 38s)

how to code that.

(22m 39s)

Um, I might just honestly have to pass the, my, cause I can

(22m 44s)

play this on my computer.

(22m 45s)

I might just have to pass my computer to my husband and be

(22m 46s) Chelsea:

Um, can you do this for me?

(22m 47s) Codey:

like, figure out how to code this place.

(22m 51s)

Can you do this?

(22m 52s)

I just want to watch it happen, but I can’t, I don’t want to

(22m 54s) Chelsea:

That’s super cool.

(22m 56s) Codey:

have to figure out how.

(22m 58s)

So yeah, this is something that’s really cute.

(23m)

Uh, releasing November 2nd and it’s something Al and I will

(23m 3s)

definitely cover.

Lou’s Lagoon

(23m 6s) Codey:

Next up we have Lou’s

(23m 8s)

Lagoon. They have their 1.1.0 release. So they have fixed some things. They have sped

(23m 14s)

up crafting because it seemed really slow. There’s more storage on your plane. And they

(23m 20s)

fixed a lot of bugs. There are many bug fixes in this list of things that they did. And

(23m 29s)

I just loved, I always, whenever I see a list of bug fixes or a list of like improvements

(23m 35s)

that were made, I love finding like.

(23m 38s)

looking through them like they’re little easter eggs to try and find fun quotes and I found this

(23m 43s)

one “improved the tornado animation for more drama” and I said it’s very important

(23m 47s) Chelsea:

[laughs]

(23m 48s)

They have their priorities in order.

(23m 54s) Codey:

yeah because I guess you get like shipwrecked at some point and there’s a tornado and

(23m 55s) Chelsea:

[laughs]

(23m 59s)

It was not dramatic enough.

(24m 1s) Codey:

it wasn’t dramatic enough and now it’s very dramatic so

(24m 6s) Chelsea:

I love when developers put their little patch notes, like you said, the little tidbits, and then for Moonlight Peaks they did one and they’re like, “We’re sorry about the wine!”

(24m 8s) Codey:

you

(24m 9s)

[laughs]

(24m 10s)

Yeah.

(24m 14s)

[laughs]

(24m 16s) Chelsea:

Because they nerfed it so you couldn’t sell it for as much money, and that was the big money maker in the game, so they’re like, “We heard you about the wine, we’re fixing it!”

(24m 19s) Codey:

Oh, no!

(24m 21s)

Oh.

(24m 23s)

Oh, yeah, I think I remember that.

(24m 25s)

Like, we talked about how they-

(24m 27s)

They, like, nerfed it and everyone was, like, so mad.

(24m 31s)

And…

(24m 31s) Chelsea:

Yeah, no, because that was our main money maker from the start.

(24m 33s) Codey:

Oh, that’s so funny.

(24m 34s) Chelsea:

Yeah.

(24m 34s) Codey:

I was- So, I was thinking about that game.

(24m 37s)

Like, and that- That thing.

(24m 39s)

They have, wine and like, beer and stuff like that.

(24m 41s)

And I was trying to find, like, the game rating.

(24m 45s)

Because I remember when Apico was being made, they had, like, Mead.

(24m 50s)

Because you can make Mead with honey.

(24m 52s)

And Apico is, like, a beekeeping game.

(24m 54s)

And El, the developer, was talking about how they, like,

(24m 59s)

were trying to hit them with, like, an R rating.

(25m 3s)

Like, a- Or, sorry, rated M for Mature.

(25m 5s)

Because it was Mead.

(25m 8s) Chelsea:

Oh, so any alcohol needs to be…

(25m 9s) Codey:

And so, I was wondering if Moonlight Peaks probably also is rated M for Mature.

(25m 13s)

But it might also be rated that for other reasons.

(25m 15s)

Like, I don’t know what the rest of the gameplay is.

(25m 17s) Chelsea:

here it’s rated t yeah but it’s crazy because like you have an openly alcoholic main character

(25m 18s) Codey:

What?

(25m 20s)

Dude.

(25m 26s) Chelsea:

that’s always at the bar getting drunk and you have to like drag him back to his house and

(25m 31s)

he it’s a huge plot line so i’m not sure yeah that’s crazy about Apico

(25m 31s) Codey:

so funny yeah wild I wonder if it would be rated

(25m 38s)

different because he wanted it to be e for everyone

(25m 41s)

um because it’s just a cute little beekeeping game but

(25m 45s)

whatever so they changed it to like apicola or something

(25m 49s) Chelsea:

[laughs] I love that.

(25m 50s) Codey:

it’s whatever it works

(25m 53s) Chelsea:

[laughs] Ape-a-Cola.

Palia

(25m 55s) Codey:

uh and then finally we have palia uh quote this holiday season we’re

(25m 58s)

we’re launching a brand new feature called Echo Expedition.

(26m 2s)

Echo Expeditions bring you our own brand of wholesome dungeon crawling

(26m 7s)

while opening up new ways to progress, adventure, and team up with friends.

(26m 11s)

The feature brings replayable expeditions where pallians can delve through multitudes of levels,

(26m 15s)

tackle fantastical challenges, cleanse mysterious echo manifestations,

(26m 20s)

and grow stronger along the way.

(26m 22s)

And in the post about it, they made it clear that this does not have a lot of combat,

(26m 31s)

and so it’s pretty light in combat, and it’s PvP only, or sorry, PvE only,

(26m 36s)

so you’re not going to be taking damage from your friends.

(26m 40s)

Yeah, so it just seems like it’s a World of Warcraft dungeon-like thing,

(26m 46s)

where it’s these replayable expeditions that you can do.

(26m 52s) Chelsea:

  • Guess what, Al? (laughs)

(26m 54s)

Guess what, Al, guess what you’re playing?

(26m 56s) Codey:

[laughs]

(26m 58s)

Yup.

(26m 59s)

Oh, I need to jump back into this.

(27m 1s)

I played this game a little bit when it first came out, I don’t, actually I don’t even think it was a 1.0 yet, um, but yeah, it is coming now out in “the holiday season”.

Oops Surprise!

(27m 13s) Theme Tune:

[upbeat music]

(27m 20s) Kevin:

Hi everyone, Harvest Season 1st, as you will notice, I am neither Cody nor Chelsea.

(27m 31s)

Unfortunately, the recording, the episode they’re working on for the first time ever

(27m 36s)

had a bit of a major disruption, and they could not finish the recording.

(27m 42s)

Everyone is now fine, thankfully, nothing too major, but yeah, they could not finish it.

(27m 48s)

And so–

(27m 50s)

We had to play by ear a little.

(27m 53s)

Funnily enough, Chelsea and I were

(27m 55s)

going to finish the episode on the topic that

(27m 59s)

was originally planned.

(28m)

But some kerfuffles happened on our end as well.

(28m 5s)

And here we are.

(28m 8s)

Had too much to out-chagrin.

(28m 10s)

We had to break out old reliable.

(28m 12s)

And the rest of the episode will now

(28m 15s)

be a Kevin Solo experience.

(28m 17s)

Woo!

(28m 18s)

[laughs]

(28m 20s)

We’ll also cover the other stuff,

(28m 22s)

the Neopets stuff at a later time.

(28m 24s)

But for now, let’s see what I’ve got.

(28m 29s)

And actually, that’s a question I’ve been fumbling over

(28m 33s)

for a little bit.

(28m 34s)

Again, this is sort of last minute situation.

(28m 37s)

I had a few ideas floating around,

(28m 40s)

but they required a little more prep time.

(28m 43s)

So I have opted for something I forgot

(28m 45s)

I had in my back pocket.

Discounty

(28m 48s) Kevin:

A… fourth?

(28m 50s)

Third? I can’t remember what number we were on.

(28m 52s)

Well, the final discounting episode.

(28m 54s)

Here we are! Surprise!

(28m 56s)

Um…

(28m 58s)

Because, uh, yeah.

(29m)

I… last time we talked about it

(29m 2s)

with Al, I remember the big, was it

(29m 4s)

People or Profit update?

(29m 6s)

Um, which was good.

(29m 8s)

I did not hit credits of that update

(29m 10s)

at the time, and I since have.

(29m 12s)

Uh, and I have

(29m 14s)

more thoughts, um,

(29m 16s)

on the endings and the overall experience.

(29m 18s)

the end.

(29m 20s)

This one is going to be a little more story heavy and character heavy because I think

(29m 25s)

that’s where a lot of the effort and energy was put in the update.

(29m 33s)

I talked a lot about the mechanics last time and actually you know what let me follow up

(29m 37s)

on that a little because yeah kind of revising my own notes from last time but one of my

(29m 44s)

big complaints from the recording last time was…

(29m 51s)

getting the new resources in the update for Discounty where they had introduced a number

(29m 59s)

of new resources for all these new expansions and upgrades and such and I was having a lot

(30m 5s)

of difficulty acquiring some.

(30m 8s)

So as it turns out the real issue was less about the generation of the resources and

(30m 16s)

more about, uh, I don’t know, guiding the plow.

(30m 20s)

Um, uh, because yeah, uh, essentially a bunch of new projects open up all over town when you reheat very early in the, uh, discounted post game update and, um, you’re given story wise, uh, directed into a few of them, but not a lot of them.

(30m 41s)

Um, and that’s unfortunate because, uh, a lot of them are really useful and would be make more sense to unlock.

(30m 50s)

Uh, if anyone’s playing discounting out there, um, unlock the mine when you do the people are profit update, um, because that’s how you get your metal and that you need metal for a lot of other things.

(31m)

Um, also a lot of story triggers are hidden behind, um, uh, the lab, uh, the, you unlock this lab as you go through the game.

(31m 10s)

Um, and it’s, it’s a lot of story triggers and upgrades like the self checkout is hidden behind the lab. Um, but again, not super.

(31m 20s)

Heavily indicated that’s the way to go to do all of that, which is, uh, unfortunate.

(31m 25s)

Um, that’s the only real, um, like big criticism I have of the discounting update.

(31m 31s)

Uh, at, at this point, like if they could have just sequenced that or pushed you a little harder, uh, to this correct ones in, in a optimal order, I think the experience would be a lot better.

(31m 45s)

Um, but hey, you know, I guess that’s maybe what the Internet for is

(31m 50s)

for, but this county is kind of still a bit of a small game. I haven’t found much in terms of

(31m 57s)

online guides and advice, even now. But, but yeah, saying again, mechanically, a lot of upgrades are

(32m 6s)

there. Some of the best customizations, some of the best mechanical upgrades for your store,

(32m 14s)

including, again, the self-checkout, the online order area.

(32m 20s)

On some of the best shelves and displays.

(32m 24s)

stands and such, um, yeah, a bit unfortunate that they, um, didn’t quite guide you to that,

(32m 32s)

um, a little more clearly. Um, but anyways, I digress. Yeah. Gameplay wise, that’s the only,

(32m 38s)

uh, thing I think I really have to add. Uh, again, I think I’ve covered it pretty thoroughly

(32m 43s)

in the other episodes. Um, uh, I guess, oh, the self-checkout since Al, I think would be curious

(32m 49s)

about the automation. The self-checkout is not that big of an automation.

(32m 54s)

So, you know, the number of customers you have in your store vary depending on your

(33m 1s)

advertisements and whatnot. But I’d say maybe at most 10% of the customers will actually

(33m 9s)

go through the self-checkout. And it actually still does require some player input because

(33m 15s)

it’ll have a malfunction or an error and you need to go just basically push a button on

(33m 19s)

machine to keep, so the customer can keep

(33m 24s)

on the machine. So, unfortunately, now it doesn’t quite annihilate the checkout gameplay.

(33m 31s)

But I mean, I was fine with that because I thought the gameplay was fine.

(33m 36s)

Okay, I’m trying to think. Yeah, nothing too big. I need to go into detail. Because there’s a lot of

(33m 45s)

other nice little quality of life upgrades through those various lab projects like I talked about.

(33m 52s)

But but yeah

(33m 54s)

Nothing like worth diving into too far

(33m 58s)

Anyways, okay, but all that said let’s talk about the story

(34m 4s)

Because that

(34m 6s)

Is I think kind of the the the big thing that I haven’t delved too deep into and now I have all the pieces

(34m 14s)

more or less

(34m 16s)

I think

(34m 19s)

Well, I say more or less because we have the asterisk

(34m 24s)

There are actually three endings with the people or profit update the good ending the bad ending and the mixed ending

(34m 31s)

I you know in my defense

(34m 33s)

I have only done the good ending but I have done a little research into the other endings to get an idea of what was

(34m 38s)

Going on. Oh one nice little mechanical thing

(34m 42s)

Basically the developers once you clear the game the the update ending they will

(34m 49s)

They allow you to say, “Here’s an extra save file if you want.”

(34m 54s)

It starts right at the beginning of the Paper Profit Update, so you can just go right into one of the other endings if you want to.

(35m 1s)

Which is a really nice touch. They set that up right there for you.

(35m 4s)

I haven’t taken advantage of it, but it is there.

(35m 9s)

And you know, once you do figure out the right upgrade path and whatnot, I do think the update is pretty quick to knock out.

(35m 18s)

Not terribly huge of a chore, I think, to go back and do those other endings if you’d like.

(35m 24s)

Okay, but before I talk about these endings, I actually do think I have to go a little bit into detail on some of these characters and their story arc.

(35m 33s)

Because the endings, I think, are a little more tied to their individual arcs and progressions.

(35m 40s)

Which is nice, because again, going back to one of the earlier episodes, that was one of the big things they were lacking in the ending.

(35m 48s)

There was some closure in some of those character developments.

(35m 52s)

uh… but uh… I think they have come

(35m 54s)

full circle as interesting actually

(35m 56s)

uh…

(35m 57s)

how they approach some of these uh… but i’ll get to that okay

(36m)

uh… but yeah let let me do a quick

(36m 3s)

uh… just intro on some of the

(36m 4s)

key characters

(36m 6s)

uh…

(36m 8s)

uh… so what the first one first character that you really mean the games

(36m 11s)

name and teller

(36m 12s)

as she’s your aunt and in the base game the actual owner of discounting on she

(36m 17s)

has your managing and running it but she is the actual owner and

(36m 20s)

uh… makes the executive decisions uh…

(36m 24s)

during the base game and teller is big on expanding discounting

(36m 29s)

uh… and that uh… is what leads to a lot of conflict with a lot of other

(36m 34s)

characters uh… including

(36m 36s)

uh… what was her name I believe it’s grace an employee who

(36m 39s)

is your mentor but then gets fired to cut costs uh…

(36m 43s)

uh… and also leads into conflict at the rest of the town as teller tries to

(36m 47s)

explain too much and

(36m 49s)

uh… basically

(36m 51s)

demolish a historical

(36m 54s)

quote landmark of the town excuse me in the people are profit update um she takes a much

(37m)

more backseat sort of role she’s done some reflecting and has decided that she doesn’t

(37m 7s)

want to live the you know sort of high profit corporate grinding lifestyle and she decides

(37m 13s)

leaves discounting more or less in your care um uh for you to decide how to go about it now

(37m 21s)

Um, actually this is

(37m 24s)

little, I guess, quirk of their update.

(37m 29s)

The update, or the storyline through the update, makes sense if there’s

(37m 34s)

a period of time in between the base game and

(37m 39s)

the update. Which, you know, for the player, I’m sure that’s exactly what it was a number of months later,

(37m 44s)

the progression of characters, the reflecting and changing

(37m 49s)

their attitudes. That makes sense. But in game, there’s no…

(37m 54s)

no real indication of that. There might be a brief text thing that I don’t remember, but

(38m 2s)

I imagine for someone who goes through the whole game right now, start to finish,

(38m 5s)

including the post-game stuff, we’ll find it kind of jarring, almost comical,

(38m 10s)

how some of these characters will shift their position or how they’ll change their interaction

(38m 14s)

with you. Anyways, so yeah, again, Head Teller, she’s a big driving force of the base game,

(38m 21s)

but much more laid off in the

(38m 24s)

uh post game um the other key characters let’s talk about um sammy the uh major

(38m 36s)

power business woman she runs the actual like industrial factory plastic plant in town um and

(38m 44s)

she is aggressive um she is uh yeah very profit motivated and only cares about business and the

(38m 55s)

um and she personality wise she’s abrasive and uh does not care much about anyone else other than

(39m 4s)

herself um which uh yeah leads to a lot of conflict with a lot of the other small business owners

(39m 11s)

even her own husband derek who is a bank manager in town um has uh issues that he’s trying to

(39m 18s)

resolve with her um which actually becomes a bit of a plot point in the

(39m 24s)

post game but I will get to that um there are the uh three business owners uh the small business

(39m 33s)

owners uh excuse me um there is parl uh the farmer there is fisher I believe the fisherman

(39m 43s)

and barbara the fish plant owner apologies if I missed up their names it’s been a while and i’m

(39m 49s)

I’m going off my memory here, but there are three–

(39m 54s)

small-ish business owners in town. They provide a lot of inventory for your store.

(40m 4s)

And to kind of recap the base game, there’s a few different plot lines. As I talked about, the

(40m 15s)

town is kind of struggling with its identity, whether to grow, keep growing, or maintain its

(40m 19s)

small-town feel and kind of history of sorts even though it’s

(40m 24s)

origin small-town with not much to claim but there are people in town who care

(40m 28s)

about it like these small business owners but there’s on this comes in

(40m 33s)

conflict again with the expansion of businesses and and and whatnot this

(40m 40s)

manifests itself through environmental issues there’s a number of them crop up

(40m 45s)

throughout the throughout the base game and mystery behind that is

(40m 54s)

of a key aspect of the base game story and how the story ends there is a report

(41m 1s)

that is basically confirms that it is not Tammy’s fault which everyone had

(41m 8s)

expected but it is actually the fault of the three business owners who had been

(41m 13s)

using some bad business practices and we’re polluting the ocean the air and so

(41m 19s)

on um excuse me

(41m 25s)

yeah the that actually that report is kind of a climax towards the base game

(41m 30s)

and is one of the quote-unquote key decision points whether you try to side

(41m 35s)

with the business owners and hide or obfuscate the results of the report or

(41m 41s)

you try to just let it out honestly and paint Tammy in a better light despite

(41m 47s)

her personality and practices um anyway so that’s kind of I think roughly the

(41m 54s)

setup for the the the base game and so that leads us to the people or profit

(42m 5s)

update after we view the again kind of climax with the town meeting resulting

(42m 12s)

in the revelation one way or the other no matter what your choice the truth

(42m 17s)

does come out thanks aunt teller the the revelation of why there’s been

(42m 25s)

issues. At first, the three small business people will not shop at your store and you

(42m 32s)

damage their relationship, but in People or Profit, they have decided to change their minds

(42m 39s)

and they have formed a basically a cooperative, a small business sort of union sort of

(42m 48s)

endeavor to try to be more sustainable and ecologically friendly after the

(42m 55s)

debacle of the report and the issues the town is facing. And so the post-game story kind

(43m 4s)

of starts with that. They contact you and they want to invite you into this union

(43m 9s)

and they ask for your support and the very first task is to create a billboard

(43m 15s)

and the billboard to advertise the new found business union. However, Tammy approaches you

(43m 25s)

being a little more favorable with you since her name was more or less cleared from the

(43m 29s)

original town report. She offers to help you grow your business,

(43m 38s)

but it makes it very clear that will likely come at the cost of or at the detriment of the town

(43m 45s)

or the other small businesses as she views their sustainability practices and whatnot as a threat

(43m 53s)

to her.

(43m 55s)

And so here’s really the big first choice point. Do you make the ad to support Tammy and your own discounting store or do you promote the new business union?

(44m 12s)

And this is basically how the update plays out. It’s very clear, like A or B sort of choices, Tammy’s side or the business union side.

(44m 25s)

And so as you make more of the, basically the ending is determined by the number of choices you make in either side, right?

(44m 32s)

If you basically pick all the union side, you’ll get the good ending. If you pick all the Tammy side, you get the bad ending.

(44m 38s)

There is actually a good ending, the neutral quote unquote mixed ending, which involves getting a bit of balance of both options of good and bad.

(44m 50s)

Um, okay, so, uh, with…

(44m 55s)

That kind of groundwork, um, the town does grow a little as the union tries to involve some more, uh, small business people into town.

(45m 6s)

Um, they’re quite an amusing crew, actually.

(45m 10s)

Um, apologies, I do not have their names off the top of my head again.

(45m 14s)

Um, but, uh, there is…

(45m 23s)

Okay, here we go. I got okay. Apologies. Um, well anyways, uh, so the business union invites three

(45m 29s)

uh new small local business people, um, there is

(45m 33s)

Angeal who opens up a sort of health organic shop

(45m 38s)

um, which is very funny, um because a lot of the

(45m 41s)

small town, uh people

(45m 44s)

Very, uh reluctant to try her wares

(45m 48s)

um, and that’s where you come in to play her because you can uh,

(45m 51s)

provide some of her wares.

(45m 53s)

through this county and then that helps her out there is a C actually a teenager

(46m)

who is a friend of one of the other residents in town she’s a bit of a

(46m 7s)

rebellious teenager and her store is in part determined by what your choices if

(46m 16s)

you side of the Union you kind of force Casey to go on the straight and narrow

(46m 20s)

and she starts up a lemonade stand and selling cookies.

(46m 23s)

out of her car.

(46m 24s)

It’s very funny because it’s tricked out and playing a bunch of music.

(46m 29s)

But she if you side

(46m 31s)

with the bad side, she can be selling some black market goods,

(46m 34s)

which is pretty funny, too.

(46m 37s)

And then the last character is

(46m 41s)

best part, who is actually Tammy’s brother.

(46m 45s)

He’s moved to town at the behest of Tammy.

(46m 47s)

Also, who is trying to get her to produce

(46m 51s)

some more plastic products along with her.

(46m 53s)

But he is interested in a hydroponics plant and produce some different crops and whatnot and again kind of choice influencing what?

(47m 3s)

What wears he will provide in this store?

(47m 7s)

Anyway, so we have now a whole plethora of small business people in town

(47m 14s)

and

(47m 15s)

And again, you’re trying in my path the good path. I’m obviously helping them join the Union

(47m 20s)

we’re all doing the sustainable options and.

(47m 23s)

Healthier options and all this good stuff.

(47m 26s)

Um, and roughly around that point, once you have all three business people in that

(47m 31s)

more or less will lock your, um, if you’ve done all good options that will lock you

(47m 37s)

out of the TAMI path, general TAMI options will lock you out of the union path.

(47m 42s)

Um, and yeah, obviously the mixed ending will get you prevent you from

(47m 46s)

getting either of the other ones.

(47m 47s)

Um, so, uh, with that said, um, there is still.

(47m 53s)

Some, uh, issues as TAMI not being content with all the new competition in town and

(48m)

the new business people, um, in the good ending, at least, excuse me, um, uh,

(48m 6s)

basically starts, uh, uh, harassing the, the, the town a little bit.

(48m 12s)

Um, and through the, and this is through the means of Elmer, another key

(48m 18s)

character to this, uh, whole, uh, story.

(48m 22s)

uh… elmer is

(48m 23s)

called the city representative he is the

(48m 26s)

representative to the

(48m 28s)

the city itself doesn’t have a

(48m 30s)

formal government

(48m 32s)

uh… but

(48m 34s)

uh… he serves as a representative to the nearby local

(48m 38s)

county government’s not very clear but uh… he’s a good representative

(48m 42s)

uh… elmer is a very

(48m 44s)

let’s call him

(48m 46s)

uh…

(48m 48s)

unsure man uh…

(48m 51s)

He’s very hesitant, very reluctant.

(48m 53s)

And he bends very easily to Tammy’s influence and strong personality.

(48m 58s)

Um, uh, and so, um, as, uh, you have some more discussions with the town and

(49m 5s)

around Elmer, um, it starts to come to light that there are some shady dealings

(49m 12s)

going on from the, the city go or local government, uh, angle.

(49m 18s)

Um, and so you have to go around gathering evidence, investigating

(49m 22s)

Tammy and Omer.

(49m 24s)

Uh, and sure enough, um, you find out that, uh, yeah, Tammy has been

(49m 31s)

manipulating Elmer so much to the point that the town report from the ending

(49m 36s)

of the base game was actually completely altered, basically fabricated, um, by

(49m 43s)

Elmer and there was a true original report, um, which did identify Tammy as

(49m 50s)

the cause of the environmental issues.

(49m 53s)

Um, this was interesting because I, one of the things I liked about the base

(49m 58s)

ending, uh, was kind of this inversion of how the big, you know, industrial

(50m 4s)

business woman was not actually the villain.

(50m 7s)

You were just a really kind of awful person, but not, uh, responsible

(50m 13s)

the ecological damage, um, while the small town business people were responsible.

(50m 18s)

Um, but now they kind of pulled the rug under that.

(50m 22s)

Right.

(50m 23s)

little on that aspect of it and the good ending I’m kind of you know weakening

(50m 30s)

the base ending a little bit but I get it I can live with it you know because

(50m 35s)

you’re exciting with these business people and yeah they’re making the

(50m 39s)

effort to change or what they thought and they still stick with their practice

(50m 44s)

or whatever so you know shout outs to them I guess but it does you know it

(50m 50s)

It would have been nice to still have that kind of mark against them, but.

(50m 54s)

So be it, regardless though, this point, when you’re basically at the end game at this point with the revelations of Elmer,

(51m 1s)

Elmer basically, a town meeting is had, and this is when all the evidence is presented,

(51m 11s)

and Elmer basically buckles under the pressure, admits to the wrongdoing, the corruption, the influence from Tammy,

(51m 21s)

And at that point

(51m 23s)

He basically quits his job with one final action of opening up an election for a new city representative

(51m 32s)

And in the good ending

(51m 35s)

Rose to

(51m 38s)

Aunt Teller actually her father was originally also worked for the local government and

(51m 45s)

believe a mayor I don’t recall but

(51m 47s)

She decided to follow in her father’s footsteps, and you know start supporting the town. It’s some

(51m 53s)

What in?

(51m 55s)

Recompense for her early actions in the base game of trying to expand too much and erasing the town’s identity in history

(52m 3s)

And it suits her because it tellers a very strong sort of woman as well so very fitting for her

(52m 10s)

and

(52m 12s)

What is in probably what my favorite part from the good ending is the Derek angle?

(52m 18s)

one of the last

(52m 21s)

aspects of the union to have enough members to be

(52m 23s)

formally recognized by the government, they have to get a seventh or eighth. There’s one more

(52m 31s)

business person they need, and they reach out to Derek, who is the local bank manager. And again,

(52m 37s)

he is also Tammy’s husband, which obviously puts him in a precarious position. But if you go through

(52m 45s)

the requests and convince Derek to join you, he does so in part because his marriage with Tammy

(52m 50s)

has just been suffering. He points to the fact that there are so many people who are suffering.

(52m 53s)

to a history where she was not so callous and heartless, and he misses basically the woman

(53m 1s)

he originally married. And Derek joining the union is kind of the breaking point along with

(53m 10s)

again the whole town meeting with the new government, new representative, and the new

(53m 17s)

report or the original report being found. Tammy has basically…

(53m 23s)

a breakdown, and she just goes on just outrage. And the next morning, she’s actually just

(53m 32s)

completely skipped town, abandoning not just Derek, but they had a son who works with you.

(53m 38s)

Oh gosh, is it Chad? I forget. But yeah, Tammy just disappears from town.

(53m 47s)

And so that’s kind of how the game ends at that point.

(53m 51s)

Heller formally hands you over the deed.

(53m 53s)

And his head’s off to as her new role as a city representative.

(53m 58s)

And now the union is basically running the economics and business in town.

(54m 3s)

Um, one little asterisk, um, was a Chester might be the son’s name, my chest, right?

(54m 9s)

I can’t remember off the top of my head.

(54m 12s)

Um, but, um, I wonder if this was an oversight, but in the, uh, as I said,

(54m 17s)

tell her son or not tell her, excuse me, Tammy’s son works for you.

(54m 21s)

But in.

(54m 23s)

The ending the good ending he blames you for his mother leaving and angrily announces he’ll never talk to you again but gameplay wise it just goes back to work right for you which seems like a bit of an oversight that sort of ending would I would think would have locked him out as well which would have made sense.

(54m 44s)

Um, yeah, but that’s, yeah, that’s how the game ends Tammy has skipped town.

(54m 53s)

There’s no big old business union, working to be sustainable and ecologically friendly, and things are looking bright for the town.

(55m 3s)

Um, yeah, so, again, aside from the tester incident.

(55m 24s)

know kind of her true colors actually showing through which or if they were

(55m 31s)

gonna go that route then just go all in like that yeah I think it was well done

(55m 35s)

um I’m trying to think oh there is one other character I should have mentioned

(55m 41s)

he’s not as major of a character but his kind of side story does influence the

(55m 49s)

plot a little bit and then is progression locked behind some of his

(55m 52s)

test. And that is the character…

(55m 54s)

Cornelius. He is a journalist in town who has done some reporting against you,

(56m 2s)

Discounty, in the base game, especially when there’s unrest from the town as

(56m 7s)

Discounty tries to expand too much. But he is also the grandson of, I forget, one of the town’s

(56m 15s)

founders. And he’s obsessed with that kind of, sort of, lineage and wants to honor his great

(56m 22s)

Grandfather, great-grandfather, whatever it was.

(56m 24s)

He ends up building the Blomkest Museum basically, showing the history of the town,

(56m 31s)

including his, again, his ancestors’ involvement in the town.

(56m 35s)

It’s funny because some of the information is known to be questionable, basically,

(56m 42s)

but people love it because it helps give the town a little more identity.

(56m 48s)

But yeah, so that’s kind of the good ending I had for this.

(56m 55s)

Um, yeah, and so overall, thumbs up.

(56m 59s)

Gameplay-wise, story-wise, you know, not perfect, but overall, I enjoyed it and easy, easy recommend.

(57m 8s)

Anyways, but that said, again, the other endings, I haven’t experienced them myself,

(57m 13s)

but I have looked into them.

(57m 17s)

The neutral ending is, kind of, it feels a little weak.

(57m 21s)

basically not much changes from where

(57m 24s)

the town starts at the people are profit update Tammy maintains her plants the

(57m 32s)

business owners don’t form the Union but they do manage to apply a little

(57m 37s)

pressure towards Tammy as I understand it and so on neither side really backing

(57m 43s)

down so I’ll my believe maintains his role as representative and there’s not

(57m 49s)

much change in the overall direction of the town that doesn’t become

(57m 54s)

more sustainable eco-friendly or whatnot but it doesn’t become the bad

(57m 59s)

and that’s so the bad ending is interesting because they really kind of

(58m 5s)

go all in so again all this based on what I’ve read and heard but as I

(58m 10s)

understand it in the bad ending you well you go along with Tammy’s plans for

(58m 17s)

expansion and advertising for discounting and growing the business

(58m 22s)

that you basically…

(58m 24s)

he uses you as a pawn to weaken the other business people in town and their union.

(58m 32s)

And at one point, you discover…

(58m 37s)

not super clearly, but basically these major plans for expansion and industrializing the whole town.

(58m 43s)

At which point, Tammy basically locks you in the sewers so you don’t reveal the information.

(58m 50s)

You do make your way out of the sewers, um, and I wonder…

(58m 54s)

if that gameplay is a little different. You explore a little bit of that in the good ending.

(58m 58s)

Uh, there are some sewers that you go through as you’re investigating for the evidence,

(59m 1s)

but I don’t know if it’s any different. Um, but I digress. Um, in the bad ending,

(59m 6s)

uh, when you do get out of the sewers, um, it is too late and, um, some of the pollution has

(59m 15s)

just become, uh, basically unsustainable bad levels, uh, influencing others, basically.

(59m 25s)

Um, which is kind of wild, um, where they just become, uh, zombies as I’ve heard it described.

(59m 30s)

Um, uh, Tammy has placed herself as city representative, and, um, I believe Cornelius

(59m 38s)

actually has just straight up disappeared in the bad ending, which is very interesting,

(59m 43s)

I assume because of his journalism, uh, kind of, and the history connection.

(59m 49s)

um and teller just leaves town actually that is kind of an element she does

(59m 54s)

in all endings handing you the deed but the you know context is clearly different in the good

(1h)

ending she leaves to as you know to fulfill her role as a local representative in the town

(1h 5s)

um but in the bad ending she is just uh basically given up and then

(1h 12s)

moves to start anew elsewhere um you know yeah um it’s over the top very evil you know very

(1h 21s)

profit commercial heavy, which.

(1h 25s)

feels, how should I put this, a little almost cartoonish,

(1h 28s)

but given, it’s interesting how so many of these,

(1h 33s)

not just this ending, but I feel like there’s a handful

(1h 36s)

of medias where, you know, our current,

(1h 40s)

at least out here in the U.S.,

(1h 42s)

political and hyper-capitalist nightmare environment

(1h 49s)

kind of makes you soften on these sort of

(1h 52s)

cartoonish endings a little bit.

(1h 55s)

Yeah, no, that that tracks, I guess.

(1h 57s)

Um, in fact, it might be a little too real now.

(1h 1m 1s)

Um, anyways, um, so yeah, that’s a kind of a snapshot of the endings on discounty.

(1h 1m 9s)

Um, they are, yeah, like, so overall, I think the story is pretty solid.

(1h 1m 16s)

Um, this game, unlike, you know, unlike stardew or maybe some of these other

(1h 1m 22s)

farming sims

(1h 1m 25s)

a lot more story heavy

(1h 1m 28s)

Then you know, I appreciate it was good enough

(1h 1m 33s)

Or no, no, not just good enough. It was well done. I think it was well done, you know

(1h 1m 37s)

Maybe a weak point here or there but you know, it’s not bad by any means. So thumbs up all around

(1h 1m 44s)

The gameplay I’ve talked about that at length. I do think I will note one thing

(1h 1m 49s)

I should have mentioned earlier dynamics just number of unlocks you can get with the inventory

(1h 1m 55s)

And then the spacing it really makes running the

(1h 1m 59s)

Store at full capacity pretty challenging to be very frank. I’m in a good way. Um, I

(1h 2m 5s)

You know, you know, what’s nice is you can kind of temper a little

(1h 2m 8s)

But as I mentioned there’s a mechanic where you put up posters and advertisements and increase customers

(1h 2m 13s)

If you don’t do that, you get less customers and it’s a little easier to manage

(1h 2m 17s)

And so gonna you can sometimes even use that to your advantage. There are

(1h 2m 22s)

Some through post game after the update

(1h 2m 25s)

A few of them are pretty demanding challenges

(1h 2m 35s)

and it’s easier with one of them for instance is doing a number of online orders which is

(1h 2m 42s)

totally separate from the you know separate little area from the main store so my doing

(1h 2m 48s)

a whole bunch of online orders while maintaining client happiness inside the main store which

(1h 2m 53s)

Which is pretty challenging AF2.

(1h 2m 55s)

So having that option to kind of

(1h 2m 58s)

a little for yourself using those advertisements and whatnot much much appreciated.

(1h 3m 3s)

Um, but uh, but yeah, uh, sorry I’m just thinking here.

(1h 3m 8s)

I think that’s roughly all I got to say for real now.

(1h 3m 11s)

The the final word on discounty here.

(1h 3m 14s)

Um, good game still thumbs up all the way throughout.

(1h 3m 19s)

Easy recommend it’s pretty affordable from what I remember.

(1h 3m 23s)

I’m gonna have the exact price right now.

(1h 3m 25s)

But, uh, uh, yeah, shout out to discounting for being good the whole way, pretty much.

(1h 3m 30s)

Um, you know, just, I wish they could have told me which upgrade the mind first.

Outro

(1h 3m 36s) Kevin:

Uh, anyways.

Thank you, Chelsea and Codey, for all the stuff you guys did, the news, and I was

(1h 6m 31s)

starting the episode strong. Thank you, Al, for editing all this nonsense somehow.

(1h 6m 36s)

And thank you, listener, for enduring all this. We made it somehow.

(1h 6m 41s)

Yeah, that’ll do it. Oh, I’m just kidding. How could I forget? Should I pick a voice?

(1h 6m 48s)

(1h 7m 48s) Codey:

You know, even though I’ll like, there’s this pre record checklist and it’s the same thing

(1h 7m 54s)

every single time. But then on days like today, where my brain is potato, I’m like, thankful,

(1h 8m 1s)

like, sometimes I’m like, Okay, we, we do the same thing every time. So like,

(1h 8m 5s)

why do we need this pre record checklist, right? And then days like today, my brain is like,

(1h 8m 12s) Chelsea:

Yes.

(1h 8m 13s) Codey:

No, you need it. I need I need it. Oh, today’s world series.

(1h 8m 14s) Chelsea:

You need it.

(1h 8m 17s)

No.

(1h 8m 22s)

Oh no, why is my computer messing up?

(1h 8m 24s)

No!

(1h 8m 25s)

No!

(1h 8m 26s)

No, there we go.

(1h 8m 27s)

Hello?

(1h 8m 28s)

Yes?

(1h 8m 29s) Codey:

I can hear you.

(1h 8m 29s) Chelsea:

No?

(1h 8m 30s) Codey:

You went nowhere.

(1h 8m 30s) Chelsea:

Okay.

(1h 8m 31s)

Sorry.

(1h 8m 32s) Codey:

We’re fine.

(1h 8m 32s) Chelsea:

Okay.

(1h 8m 33s) Codey:

We will survive this time of great hardship.

(1h 8m 33s) Chelsea:

I think we’re both not firing all cylinders today.

(1h 8m 41s) Codey:

No, I’ll comment on it and people can,

(1h 8m 45s)

I don’t think people will comment on it, they’re nice.
