Intro

(30s) Al:

Hello, farmers, and welcome to another episode of the harvest season.

(36s)

My name is Al.

(38s) Kevin:

My name is Kevin.

(38s) Al:

And we’re here today to talk about cottage score games.

(43s) Kevin:

Ooh.

(44s) Al:

I was gonna call myself Sleepy Al again, and then I realised I made that joke last episode, so I’m just always sleepy now.

(50s) Kevin:

Did you? I don’t even, I don’t even remember, so you’re fine.

(54s)

And I think I was there.

(55s) Al:

Yeah, when I posted that episode, you were like, I don’t remember this episode.

(59s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s true.

(1m 1s)

I’m also sleepy, so, you know, we’re a pair of EPs recording a podcast as we do.

(1m 7s) Al:

EP’s.

(1m 8s)

Yeah, I’m recording 2 this weekend as well.

(1m 10s)

This is the problem.

(1m 11s)

Like I, I, I enjoy our summer month that we do.

(1m 17s)

I mean, partly because I get some time off, which is always nice, but also like I like thinking up the theme and the theme is always quite fun, but it does make the time just before I go on holiday, just a little bit more busy.

(1m 30s) Kevin:

Chaotic year.

(1m 32s)

It happened.

(1m 35s) Al:

But we got there, we’re getting there.

(1m 37s)

We’re nearly there, theoretically.

(1m 39s)

Cody’s got quite a lot more to do.

(1m 42s) Kevin:

Theoretically.

(1m 45s) Al:

All right, this episode, we are doing our discounty, the 2nd harvest, because the there was an update, and Kevin’s been playing that update.

(1m 54s) Kevin:

Yeah, there’s a lot.

(1m 54s) Al:

So we’re gonna, we’re gonna do that again.

(1m 56s) Kevin:

Yeah, more follow-up, the discounting.

(2m 1s) Al:

Uh, before that, we have a bunch of news, but 1st of all, Kevin, what have you been up to?

What Have We Been Up To

(2m 8s) Kevin:

Uh, it’s a lot of work.

(2m 9s)

been very busy.

(2m 10s)

Had a work trip to California this week.

(2m 12s)

Um, it was not terribly exciting because it was work and all work, but I did go to the in and out, uh, 1st time in my life.

(2m 21s)

Um, uh, you were in.

(2m 21s) Al:

Is that a specifically Californian plate?

(2m 25s) Kevin:

Yeah, so, um, yeah, I, so for people, I’m originally from California, but that’s been some 25 years since I’ve been there.

(2m 33s)

Um, really.

(2m 34s)

Um, but yes, In-N-Out is a famous burger chain out of Cal- based out of California.

(2m 41s)

Um, They’re known for pretty good food.

(2m 45s)

Um, but also their menu is fairly small and cheap and affordable.

(2m 49s)

They have that kind of a, classic American diner, sort of a, aesthetic.

(2m 55s)

They got employees at the paper hat.

(2m 58s)

Um, uh, but they also have the quote unquote, the secret menu, which is 100s of items, but it’s, you know, it’s not on the menu when you walk in, but if you know, you ask and they,

(3m 8s) Al:

Is.

(3m 11s)

Is this what like the theme of like Good Burger is based on?

(3m 16s) Kevin:

Oh, it’s very good burger-esque.

(3m 18s)

Yeah, you could say that.

(3m 19s)

It’s not the only burger chain to have that kind of aesthetic, but, um, but uh, it isn’t that vain.

(3m 25s) Al:

Part of the problem of, you know, growing up not in America is that obviously we see a lot of American media, right?

(3m 33s)

Because there’s just a lot of it.

(3m 34s)

And um, we’re, it’s very hard to know what is real and what is not real.

(3m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah, we’ve been known for that.

(3m 43s) Al:

In American media, right?

(3m 47s) Kevin:

Hmm, usually you can air on the side of, it’s probably more real than you think.

(3m 52s) Al:

But the problem is some of it just seems so ridiculous.

(3m 55s)

Like, why would that be real?

(3m 57s)

But…

(3m 57s) Kevin:

Well, well, welcome to America.

(4m 1s)

Um, when you came to the states, you went to Cali, right?

(4m 5s) Al:

Yeah, I didn’t go to In-N-Out, though.

(4m 5s) Kevin:

Did you, yeah.

(4m 7s)

Yeah, I’m surprised they didn’t take you.

(4m 8s) Al:

I, I, that wasn’t, that, that wasn’t even brought up as an, as an option.

(4m 13s) Kevin:

Well, they’re not very good hosts.

(4m 13s) Al:

Well, look, look, look.

(4m 14s) Kevin:

Shame on them.

(4m 15s)

Yeah.

(4m 16s) Al:

Vincent was taking me places with good food and certain other people who should remain nameless were taking me to places with bland food.

(4m 19s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(4m 25s)

Well, look, sometimes there’s there’s a place to meet in the middle.

(4m 30s)

America, you got to experience about both ends, okay?

(4m 32s)

Like, yes, we got the nice, the, you went to the Korean barbeque in some nice places, but you also got to try the, you’ve got to try the waffle house.

(4m 37s) Al:

Yes, the Korean barbeque was nice.

(4m 42s)

I did, I did eat some random food from a gas station.

(4m 48s) Kevin:

Okay, yeah, that’s that’s, that’s, that’s in the same category.

(4m 52s) Al:

That was all me.

(4m 52s) Kevin:

So, you know.

(4m 53s)

Well, good on you.

(4m 53s) Al:

That was, I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you why that happened.

(4m 56s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(4m 56s) Al:

So I was walking down the road, uh, you know, classic European walking, um, go, you know, going to meet up with people, but it was like, it was roughly about an hour for me to walk from my hotel to the hotel that other people were staying in.

(5m 10s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(5m 13s) Al:

But the half of that time was just standing waiting for me to be able to cross roads.

(5m 13s) Kevin:

As is America, yeah, mhm.

(5m 19s) Al:

There’s just so many roads.

(5m 20s) Kevin:

Yep, that’s also America.

(5m 21s)

Yeah.

(5m 22s) Al:

Anyway, so I was walking and I spy in the distance.

(5m 25s)

Ooh, there’s a McDonald’s.

(5m 26s)

Maybe I’ll go get a McDonald’s breakfast, see what McDonald’s breakfast like in America.

(5m 29s)

But here’s the problem.

(5m 30s)

It was drive-through only.

(5m 33s) Kevin:

Oh, what?

(5m 35s) Al:

I didn’t realise this was a thing.

(5m 38s) Kevin:

Okay, so it’s pretty rare.

(5m 39s)

I’ll say that, earlier, in my experience.

(5m 42s)

It’s not that common.

(5m 43s)

There are some restaurants that do that.

(5m 45s) Al:

I mean, LA is going to be the place where it happens, right?

(5m 45s) Kevin:

Um.

(5m 46s)

Yeah.

(5m 48s)

I was about to say, if you’re smack dab in the middle of a very urban area, yeah, that’s more likely, but, um,

(5m 54s) Al:

I was I was, I was so, I was gobsmacked.

(5m 57s)

I was standing at this going, I can’t get into this.

(6m)

I can’t buy food from this place.

(6m 2s)

What is that?

(6m 3s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(6m 5s) Al:

It’s like, what am I going to have to like book an Uber?

(6m 7s)

All right.

(6m 9s)

So I was like, oh, well, okay, I guess I need to think up something else.

(6m 14s)

And then I saw a gas station just down the road and I was like, oh, they have food, right?

(6m 20s)

And so I went in and found these.

(6m 21s) Kevin:

Yeah. Yeah.

(6m 22s)

Question mark.

(6m 24s) Al:

I don’t know.

(6m 24s) Kevin:

Yes.

(6m 26s) Al:

I can’t remember what it was called.

(6m 27s) Kevin:

Oh, see, this is important because gas stations.

(6m 31s) Al:

They might have been Taquitos.

(6m 31s) Kevin:

There’s a spectrum.

(6m 33s)

Okay.

(6m 33s) Al:

Maybe.

(6m 34s) Kevin:

Okay.

(6m 35s) Al:

It was like a little, it was certainly like a small tortilla wrapped thing.

(6m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah, all right.

(6m 41s)

Yeah, that sounds like the Quitos.

(6m 42s)

And you were in LA, so very likely.

(6m 43s) Al:

And that…

(6m 44s)

Yeah, and that name was in my brain.

(6m 46s)

So I Googled it to check that it was what I was thinking it was.

(6m 49s)

So I think it might have been that, and it was fine.

(6m 52s)

It was exactly what you’d expect from food from a gas station, right?

(6m 56s)

Like, I mean, I was going in with the expectation that I was about to eat a McDonald’s breakfast.

(6m 56s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah.

(7m) Al:

So, you know, quality here is, you know, we’re not expecting much.

(7m 1s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(7m 3s)

Yeah, on par.

(7m 5s)

There you go.

(7m 6s)

Um, yeah.

(7m 6s) Al:

Yeah, yeah.

(7m 8s) Kevin:

So yeah, no, no, I mean, gas stations do vary in quality, the type of food.

(7m 13s)

Um, some are are genuine mistakes, but some are acceptable enough.

(7m 19s)

I will have lunch at a quick trip.

(7m 21s)

Um, uh, they’ll like, they’ll make you a fresh sub.

(7m 24s)

Um, taquitos.

(7m 26s)

Ah, that’s probably an all right.

(7m 27s)

That was probably an all right choice.

(7m 29s)

Um.

(7m 30s) Al:

Do you know, I, here, you mentioned subs.

(7m 32s)

You know, it took me a long time to realise that Subway is not the only place that subs exist.

(7m 38s)

Because they’re just not really a thing here.

(7m 39s) Kevin:

Yeah, I… Sure.

(7m 41s) Al:

Subway was was the entirety of subs for most of, you know, until I was like significantly into my adulthood.

(7m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah, I know, I think it’s.

(7m 51s)

Sorry, that, that, I mean, that’s a shame, but I get it.

(7m 54s)

Um, Because yeah, Subway is like bottom tier of subs, to be very frank.

(7m 58s) Al:

I mean, we get we get others, like, obviously we, you know, we, you can, we, we do baguettes and stuff like that, but like the, the, like, the, like soft kind of elongated roll, if you will, like that, it’s not really something.

(8m 3s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, yeah sure, sure, sure.

(8m 9s)

Mm-hmm.

(8m 12s) Al:

I mean, you know you can.

(8m 13s)

There are other subshops you can get here, but like that it was basic, it was Subway.

(8m 17s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(8m 19s) Al:

There wasn’t.

(8m 21s) Kevin:

Yeah, sure.

(8m 21s)

No, I guess that that makes sense.

(8m 23s)

It’s a, is like a, I don’t know, not an expert food historian, but I, as I understand, it came from the New York-ish area.

(8m 32s) Al:

Oh, that’s New York, right?

(8m 32s) Kevin:

Um,

(8m 33s)

Yeah, but with all the immigrants and stuff, like it was kind of an adaptation, as I understand it.

(8m 39s)

Especially like the Italian Americans.

(8m 42s)

Um, spilling stuff up.

(8m 44s)

But anyways, um,

(8m 45s)

Yeah, no, that, well, I hope you enjoy better subs if you ever make it back out to the states in a couple of administrations assuming the country still stands.

(8m 53s) Al:

Maybe one day.

(8m 56s) Kevin:

Um…

(8m 56s) Al:

Oh, this sub does actually stand for submarine.

(9m)

Why submarine?

(9m 1s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(9m 1s)

I think it’s just the shape.

(9m 2s) Al:

Is that the shape of a submarine?

(9m 5s) Kevin:

Yeah, long oval.

(9m 7s) Al:

If you squint.

(9m 9s) Kevin:

Yeah, if you squint, yeah.

(9m 11s)

Um, but yeah, so, uh, back to In-N-Out.

(9m 15s)

And it was all right.

(9m 16s)

Yeah.

(9m 16s)

Um, I think there I’ve had better burgers.

(9m 19s)

The burger was okay, but the value was there.

(9m 21s)

Um, it was jam-packed.

(9m 24s)

We got the World Cup going on, so, and I was near the airport in Los Angeles.

(9m 29s)

So lots of people, lots of tourists, uh, jam packed in and out.

(9m 33s)

Um, but, uh, I get to give it a thumbs up.

(9m 35s)

It was all right.

(9m 36s)

Good.

(9m 36s)

Um, lived up to the to the hype.

(9m 39s)

Yeah, so that’s in and out.

(9m 42s)

Um, so aside from that.

(9m 43s)

Um, not uh, not a lot of other food stuff because things are ridiculously expensive because hotels and stuff.

(9m 50s)

Um, uh, and it was just, like I said, work trip, I wasn’t cruising around, sadly, I was working in the hotel even when I wasn’t on site.

(9m 57s)

Um, But what I did get, though, was uh, since there were 2 long flights, I got some airplane movies in.

(10m 3s)

Um, so let’s uh, let’s go down this list.

(10m 4s) Al:

Yes.

(10m 5s)

Go on.

(10m 7s) Kevin:

I got 4.

(10m 8s)

Uh, God was able to knock out 2 on each uh, each trip uh to and from trip.

(10m 12s)

Uh, 1st off, boat by Sony animation.

(10m 17s) Al:

Oh yeah, I haven’t actually seen that.

(10m 18s)

I have heard good things.

(10m 19s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(10m 20s)

It was, yeah, it was enjoyable.

(10m 22s)

It was Zootopia basketball, I guess. That’s the way to describe it.

(10m 27s) Al:

I mean, it’s sounding sounding good still.

(10m 27s) Kevin:

Utopia, but basketball.

(10m 31s)

Yeah, no.

(10m 32s)

Um, it was enjoyable.

(10m 34s)

It was, uh, yeah, because it’s all animals, but they’re very animalistic.

(10m 39s)

Um, it’s, uh, the voice performances were good.

(10m 43s)

Animation is the same, you know, the spider versus animation crew.

(10m 45s) Al:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

(10m 46s) Kevin:

So of course that’s quality.

(10m 48s)

Um

(10m 48s) Al:

They’ve got they’ve got it down.

(10m 49s)

They’ve got their animation down.

(10m 51s) Kevin:

Yep, they got it down.

(10m 52s)

It was thumbs up.

(10m 53s)

Patton Oswald was in it and had a great scene in it.

(10m 56s)

Um, And uh, I was surprised because they had some basketball people in the movie doing voices that they were actually pretty good performances, all things considered.

(11m 4s)

So yeah, thumbs up for that.

(11m 6s)

One thing I like, the, they call it Roarball.

(11m 9s)

That’s the game.

(11m 10s)

It’s basketball, but animals.

(11m 11s)

The one thing, uh, they actually take advantage, like Zootopia, they have the different biomes, right?

(11m 17s)

There’s the ice town, the the, the heat town, the the jungle town.

(11m 17s) Al:

Yeah.

(11m 21s) Kevin:

They actually make use of the biomes.

(11m 23s)

So there’s like a cave stadium.

(11m 25s)

Well, stalactites are falling all over the place and the ice stadium.

(11m 29s) Al:

Nice.

(11m 29s) Kevin:

The ice will break apart and stuff.

(11m 31s)

Um, so that was cool to see.

(11m 33s)

Um, so yeah, a thumbs up, a goat from Sony animation.

(11m 37s)

I recommend.

(11m 38s)

Uh, next up, the running man 2025. For 6, whatever, whatever, the one that just came out.

(11m 42s) Al:

Ah.

(11m 45s) Kevin:

Um,

(11m 45s) Al:

Good, I enjoyed that film.

(11m 46s) Kevin:

Yeah, I also enjoyed it.

(11m 47s) Al:

Would have been better had they actually done the 911 at the end, just same.

(11m 48s) Kevin:

Um, I mean,

(11m 52s)

Yeah, I would have been, right?

(11m 53s) Al:

Because that’s, well, that’s that’s how the book ends.

(11m 55s) Kevin:

Yeah, I’m sure it does.

(11m 57s)

Um, and Yeah, they wimped out because they tried to, but they, you know, it was, it was right there.

(11m 58s) Al:

But they they wimped out on the film.

(12m 5s) Kevin:

I can see I can see exactly where they could have done it.

(12m 8s)

Um, That’s a shame.

(12m 10s)

But yeah, no, it was enjoyable.

(12m 11s)

Um, I don’t have much to say, like, it was just solid and enjoyable.

(12m 15s)

did what it came to do.

(12m 16s)

Um, let’s see, what else?

(12m 18s)

The return trip, I watched sinners.

(12m 21s)

Uh, the vampire one with Michael B. Jordan playing. Michael B. Jordan and himself.

(12m 22s) Al:

Hmm.

(12m 25s)

Michael B. Jordan and Michael B. Jordan.

(12m 29s) Kevin:

Um, yeah, I mean, I obviously,

(12m 30s) Al:

Yeah.

(12m 30s)

I mean, this this might be a hot take, Kevin.

(12m 33s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(12m 34s) Al:

This might be a hot take, but I think that film is good.

(12m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(12m 38s)

What?

(12m 39s)

I also thought the film was good.

(12m 43s)

Um.

(12m 44s) Al:

Radical.

(12m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah, mind book.

(12m 45s) Al:

It’s one of those, it’s one of those films where you’re like, I’m a little bit worried going into it because people have hyped it up so much, is it actually going to live up to the hype, but I thought it did.

(12m 50s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(12m 54s)

Yeah.

(12m 54s)

Yeah, yeah, it was it was solid.

(12m 57s)

Um, yeah, I don’t have much else to add.

(12m 59s)

Like the, the, the Oscars, the Academy Awards, whatever, they’ve already said their piece, so…

(13m 4s)

Yeah, it was good, good stuff.

(13m 5s) Al:

I particularly enjoy the music scene, the, the, the big, um,

(13m 7s) Kevin:

Um,

(13m 11s)

Yeah, that was so well done, right?

(13m 13s) Al:

The moving between different generations of musicians past and future I thought was was so…

(13m 13s) Kevin:

When they…

(13m 18s)

And, and they actually implement the music into it.

(13m 22s) Al:

Yeah.

(13m 22s) Kevin:

That was that was phenomenal.

(13m 24s)

Absolutely.

(13m 25s)

Um, yeah, no good stuff.

(13m 28s)

Um, and then lastly, uh, Murder on the Orient Express, the recent one, Riccule Pierrot.

(13m 37s)

Oh, wow.

(13m 38s)

Um, have you seen that one?

(13m 41s)

Do you know what I’m talking about now?

(13m 41s) Al:

I know what you’re talking about, but no, I haven’t seen it.

(13m 42s) Kevin:

Okay.

(13m 44s)

Yeah, was it Agatha Christie?

(13m 44s) Al:

Is that from 2017?

(13m 46s) Kevin:

that the author?

(13m 46s) Al:

Yeah, I.

(13m 47s) Kevin:

Is that?

(13m 48s)

Yeah, yeah.

(13m 49s)

Yeah, I guess so, because there’s been like 2 sequels since then.

(13m 50s) Al:

Is that from 2017?

(13m 52s) Kevin:

Yeah, that sounds correct.

(13m 53s)

Um, it, it’s,

(13m 55s) Al:

It’s one, the problem is, it’s one of those stories that there’s so many different adaptations in, not just in film, right?

(14m 3s)

Like it’s, it’s just, it’s a very adapted story.

(14m 3s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(14m 7s)

Yeah, yeah, what else to say, right?

(14m 10s)

Um.

(14m 11s)

So, uh, I, wait, who, who was even the actor?

(14m 15s)

I don’t know.

(14m 15s)

Um, uh, uh, who played Hercule?

(14m 19s)

I don’t even know.

(14m 20s)

Um, well, Archaeopolo did a, did a fantastic job in the, uh, uh, in the movie.

(14m 27s)

Um, Oh yeah, it was solid.

(14m 30s) Al:

Kenneth Branagh.

(14m 30s) Kevin:

What can I say?

(14m 31s)

I will say like, yeah, that’s like, yeah, that’s the guy.

(14m 32s) Al:

I don’t, I don’t know who he is, but Kenneth Brown, I was.

(14m 36s) Kevin:

I don’t either, but he did a good job.

(14m 36s) Al:

Oh, I recognise his fate.

(14m 37s) Kevin:

I do because he was in the movie I just watched.

(14m 41s) Al:

Well, yes, obviously, but no, I recognise his face.

(14m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(14m 42s)

No, I know, I know, I’m just kidding.

(14m 43s) Al:

What have I, what have I seen?

(14m 44s) Kevin:

Uh, he’s uh, been in a handful of things it looks like I don’t know which one you’ve.

(14m 52s) Al:

I’m looking, I’m looking.

(14m 53s) Kevin:

But, um, yeah, I mean, it’s a solid mystery, you know, murder mystery.

(14m 58s)

Um, I will say the bar is kind of high now because of the knives out films.

(15m 5s) Al:

Yeah.

(15m 5s) Kevin:

Um, and I know this came way before that, so it’s kind of unfair, but I was just thinking, I wish I could have seen the uh, the 3rd Knives Out movie instead, which I hadn’t seen.

(15m 14s) Al:

I think that I think the thing is you’ve got to think of them as being different things, right?

(15m 19s)

Like, yes, knives out is a mystery, but it’s not trying to be a traditional mystery, right?

(15m 20s) Kevin:

They are.

(15m 25s) Al:

It’s trying to be something more than that.

(15m 27s)

It’s, yeah, it’s different.

(15m 30s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(15m 30s) Al:

And I think it’s important to maybe not let it ruin other murder mysteries because that’s a whole thing in and of itself.

(15m 30s) Kevin:

You’re right.

(15m 35s)

You’re right.

(15m 38s)

You’re right.

(15m 38s)

Um, yeah, I mean, the knives out.

(15m 41s)

Like, unintentional or or it gets not heavy handed, but they’re almost comedy as much as mysteries and uh, and so, you know, that you’re right.

(15m 47s) Al:

Yeah.

(15m 49s) Kevin:

That’s, that’s, that’s a bit unfair.

(15m 51s) Al:

They’re also trying to, the later, the 2nd 2 certainly are trying to like say something rather than just be a mystery, right?

(15m 59s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah.

(16m)

I mean, really, 1st night is out, right?

(16m 3s)

Like they, they give you the answer 20 minutes into the movie.

(16m 7s)

So, what do you do from there?

(16m 9s)

It’s very interesting.

(16m 11s)

And so, yeah, I know you’re right.

(16m 12s)

I mean, knives outstands on stuff like murder on oriented stress, right?

(16m 17s)

Um, but I will say it’s my 1st time watching murder, any adaptation of of a murder on the Orient Express, so it was fun to see.

(16m 24s)

Um, fun, fun group of characters and actors that they have there too.

(16m 29s)

Oh, yeah.

(16m 30s) Al:

Uh, I found out what is.

(16m 32s)

I’ve seen them and it’s a film series that has been ruined by its author.

(16m 38s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

(16m 39s)

I was I didn’t bring it up.

(16m 40s)

I saw the name, and I thought, yeah, that’s probably that one.

(16m 44s)

Um,

(16m 45s) Al:

Ah, dear.

(16m 45s) Kevin:

His moustache is great.

(16m 48s)

They did a great job with this ridiculous moustache.

(16m 50s) Al:

Yeah.

(16m 51s) Kevin:

Um, anyway, so yeah.

(16m 53s) Al:

All right.

(16m 54s) Kevin:

Uh, that’s, that’s what I’ve been up to, just, just busy with that.

(16m 57s) Al:

Nice.

(16m 57s) Kevin:

I haven’t even played Pocopia.

(16m 58s)

Can you believe that?

(16m 59s)

That sounds insanely busy.

(16m 59s)

I been with work.

(17m)

You haven’t even touched the Pocopia update yet.

(17m 1s) Al:

Shocking.

(17m 1s)

Shocking.

(17m 2s) Kevin:

I did play discounty, which we’ll talk about.

(17m 5s)

But, um, what about you, Al?

(17m 6s)

What going on?

(17m 8s) Al:

Well, I’m continuing to play bistro.

(17m 10s)

Talked about that last episode, but that is continuing to go and I continue to have thoughts and feelings about it.

(17m 18s)

I look forward to talking about it at some point in the future.

(17m 20s)

But I also this week started and finished Kabuto Park, which may or may not be for something that we’ll talk about in the future.

(17m 21s) Kevin:

Ah, I.

(17m 30s) Al:

Who knows?

(17m 31s)

We’ll see.

(17m 31s)

I don’t know.

(17m 32s)

I don’t know.

(17m 32s) Kevin:

We.

(17m 33s) Al:

Do you know?

(17m 33s)

Who knows?

(17m 33s) Kevin:

Who knows?

(17m 34s) Al:

I will say…

(17m 35s) Kevin:

It’s weird that…

(17m 37s)

I was just going to say it’s weird that Pokemon isn’t, you know, pushing their spinoff game, but okay.

(17m 41s) Al:

I will say one thing about Caputo Park.

(17m 44s)

I think it is as if someone you described Pokemon to someone in this wee.

(17m 53s) Kevin:

Yeah?

(17m 54s) Al:

It’s kind of like a bug catching game where you go around and you catch bugs and then you make them fight each other.

(18m 1s) Kevin:

Yeah?

(18m 1s) Al:

It’s kind of like if that description was then turned into a game.

(18m 4s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(18m 5s)

Yeah.

(18m 5s) Al:

That’s where Caputo Park is.

(18m 8s) Kevin:

Well, you know what the crazy part is that let’s not forget.

(18m 12s)

That’s where Pokemon actually started.

(18m 14s) Al:

Well, exactly.

(18m 16s)

Exactly.

(18m 18s)

Um, so, it’s interesting.

(18m 22s)

And I may or may not.

(18m 24s)

Have thoughts about it in the future.

(18m 26s)

Who knows?

(18m 27s)

I don’t know, couldn’t possibly say.

(18m 29s) Kevin:

Couldn’t possibly say.

(18m 32s) Al:

It may or may not be talking about that tomorrow.

(18m 33s) Kevin:

Only there was a platform.

(18m 36s)

Only there’s a platform for these thoughts.

(18m 39s)

They follow me.

(18m 40s) Al:

Yeah, so that’s about it.

(18m 42s)

I haven’t.

(18m 42s)

I also haven’t played the Pocopia event yet, but hopefully soon.

(18m 46s)

However, yesterday, Craig did pick Pocopia back up again and to quote him, I’m now really enjoying this game. Maybe because he got rock smash and started terraforming.

(18m 56s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(19m 2s)

Oh, there you go.

(19m 4s)

That’ll do it.

(19m 5s) Al:

But yeah.

(19m 5s) Kevin:

I, uh, Yeah, that’s good for him, buddy.

(19m 10s)

enjoys it now.

(19m 11s)

Yeah, that reminds me.

(19m 11s) Al:

Yeah, we’ll see we’ll see how far he goes.

(19m 12s) Kevin:

don’t.

(19m 13s) Al:

I don’t know.

(19m 14s)

At this point, he’s not really doing the story.

(19m 16s)

He’s just kind of going around and building stuff, but…

(19m 18s) Kevin:

And levelling the earth.

(19m 19s)

Yeah.

(19m 20s) Al:

Yeah.

(19m 20s) Kevin:

Yeah, that sounds like Craig, yeah.

(19m 21s) Al:

Well, he’s not, he’s not really, he’s not

(19m 22s) Kevin:

good stuff.

(19m 24s) Al:

he’s not really like levelling at all and building stuff.

(19m 27s)

He’s trying, he seems like, I’m trying not to, you know, influence him too much, but he seems to be building round everything like he will, like he’s rebuilding bridges and stuff like that.

(19m 38s)

I think he’s probably wanting to roughly stay with how the world is and build his stuff around that.

(19m 39s) Kevin:

Okay.

(19m 48s) Al:

So it’ll be interesting to see.

(19m 48s) Kevin:

So colouring in the lines.

(19m 50s)

Okay.

(19m 51s) Al:

Yeah, I think.

(19m 53s)

We’ll see how that continues.

(19m 55s)

And that’s what we’ve been up to.

(19m 56s) Kevin:

Uh.

(19m 59s)

Good stuff.

(19m 59s)

Woo!

Game News

(20m) Al:

Let’s talk about some news.

(20m 1s)

First up, Harvest Moon, Echos of Taradia.

Harvest Moon: Echoes Of Teradea

(20m 6s) Al:

We have a trailer.

(20m 7s)

So we actually finally have some some information about this game because previously it was just like, here’s a game that we’re making that we’re releasing this year.

(20m 16s)

Uh, I mean, graphics wise, it basically just looks like the last 3 games, um, which is fine.

(20m 22s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(20m 24s) Al:

Like, I don’t hate it, and it’s one of these things where I think it’s, it feels very similar to me, like, like talking about Pokemon graphics, where it’s like, you could absolutely complain that this doesn’t look realistic.

(20m 35s)

Sure, fine, but I don’t think that’s what people are looking for.

(20m 40s)

And you could probably complain that the grass doesn’t look good.

(20m 42s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(20m 43s) Al:

Yeah, sure, fine.

(20m 46s)

Interesting thing about this trailer is that there’s the different areas look like dramatically different.

(20m 55s)

They look like they’re different games.

(20m 57s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, they do.

(20m 58s)

I mean, that that tropical beach.

(21m 1s) Al:

Yeah.

(21m 1s) Kevin:

Oh, those tornadoes look pretty cool.

(21m 2s) Al:

The grass looks particularly bad in that area, but…

(21m 2s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(21m 3s)

Uh, you’re.

(21m 4s)

It does, it looks like a texture.

(21m 8s)

Um,

(21m 10s) Al:

Yeah, yeah.

(21m 12s)

Um, It’s, it’s almost like they weren’t finished with that area, but they were like, we need it in the trailer because we need to give the, we need to let them know there’s a tropical area.

(21m 18s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(21m 20s) Al:

Um, So yeah, um, let’s see.

(21m 21s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(21m 25s) Al:

I’ve got a bunch of a bunch of stuff.

(21m 27s)

So they seem to have the different seasonal villages, which they had in, what was it, one world, where you would like, you would move around the different areas to plant different crops.

(21m 40s) Kevin:

Yeah, it sounds about right, yeah.

(21m 40s) Al:

Um, What else?

(21m 44s)

Oh yeah, wild animals can attack you.

(21m 48s) Kevin:

That’s interesting.

(21m 49s) Al:

Yeah, previously they’ve just existed and the most you could do is like pet them and they might get friendly, but that’s all.

(21m 52s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(21m 55s) Al:

Whereas this one they can attack you.

(21m 57s)

Okay, less cosy than cosy.

(22m 1s) Kevin:

Well, they got to spice it up somehow, I guess.

(22m 4s)

I don’t know.

(22m 6s) Al:

They’re continuing to have Dog Junior, who’s, you know, making lots of lots of stuff.

(22m 10s)

So hopefully we’ve got some new, uh, fun inventions to use.

(22m 16s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(22m 19s)

And there’s a lot of animals in this, um, which, you know, harder smoke, sure.

(22m 24s) Al:

Yeah, they showed our climbing, so we’ve never had climbing in this game before in Harvey…

(22m 31s)

But the shortest claiming are…

(22m 31s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(22m 34s)

Yeah, I wonder, yeah, I don’t know.

(22m 36s)

It’s hard to say because, like, it’s a trailer showing a lot, but it’s a lot of harvest Moon, you know?

(22m 41s) Al:

Yeah, yeah, a lot of it is like, hey, here’s this game that looks like the previous game and the previous game.

(22m 41s) Kevin:

I don’t know.

(22m 47s)

Yeah.

(22m 48s)

They have tornadoes.

(22m 50s)

That’s kind of cool.

(22m 51s) Al:

The mining looks almost identical to Home Sweet Home.

(22m 54s)

Uh,

(22m 54s) Kevin:

Yep.

(22m 55s)

There’s a few colourful towns.

(22m 57s)

I went down with little trumpets.

(23m) Al:

I just, I’ve, like, I’m gonna,

(23m 2s)

I mean, obviously I’m going to play this game.

(23m 3s)

Um, I, I really hope, it’s hard to know at this point, but I really hope this takes more from Home Sweet Home.

(23m 10s)

Um, but we’ll have to.

(23m 13s) Kevin:

Yeah, it’s a little, little hard to tell right now.

(23m 15s)

It’s very, uh, not generic, but like there’s, I don’t know, it’s hard to gather anything like super special from the, uh, from the trailer.

(23m 24s)

There’s no stinger, right?

(23m 25s)

There’s no like wow moment or look at that.

(23m 27s)

It’s like, yeah, it looks.

(23m 28s) Al:

I don’t think so.

(23m 29s)

I don’t think so.

(23m 30s)

We’ll just have to see.

(23m 32s) Kevin:

Let’s see.

(23m 33s)

It looks, it looks like a harvest moon game.

(23m 35s)

I’ll say that.

(23m 37s) Al:

Yeah, I think if you’re if you’re like looking for something dramatically different, probably not getting it here.

(23m 44s) Kevin:

Yeah, sadly, I’m not seeing it.

(23m 46s)

Nope.

(23m 47s) Al:

But will it be fun?

(23m 48s)

That’s the question.

(23m 50s) Kevin:

No, that’s the $1000000 question and you definitely can’t tell from here.

(23m 53s) Al:

Because I found I found one world kind of fun.

(23m 58s)

I found

(23m 59s)

Oh, what was the one after world, one world?

(24m 1s)

Oh, goodness me, there’s too many of them now.

(24m 3s) Kevin:

Rides, winds of anthos.

(24m 6s) Al:

Yes, I didn’t enjoy Wenzavanthos at all.

(24m 8s)

And then Home Sweet Home, I did enjoy and was the 1st one I’d completed since One World, which I mean, that’s only one.

(24m 15s)

That’s one game.

(24m 17s)

I’m just saying there’s one game that I didn’t finish there.

(24m 20s)

Having said that, one world, I really only finished because I was like, I need to know how this story finishes.

(24m 28s)

It wasn’t like I was actually super enjoying the game, if I remember correctly.

(24m 31s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(24m 32s) Al:

Um, so… Uh, yeah, I guess we’ll, we’ll see.

(24m 37s) Kevin:

Uh.

(24m 39s) Al:

It’s still coming out in the end of September, the 24th of September, or it looks here like it’s coming out on the 25th of September. If I look at the pre-order, it says 25th for here.

(24m 50s)

Yeah, super fun.

(24m 51s) Kevin:

Harvest Moon, is this, it continues, it persists.

(24m 56s) Al:

It does, and we will talk about it.

(24m 57s)

Will it be game of the year?

(24m 59s)

Probably not.

(25m) Kevin:

Probably not.

(25m 1s) Al:

Probably not.

(25m 1s) Kevin:

Let’s be real.

(25m 4s) Al:

Um, of course, my real question is, we’ve got a new harvest moon.

(25m 9s)

Where’s my story of seasons?

(25m 10s)

Come on.

(25m 11s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s the, that’s it.

(25m 11s) Al:

30th anniversary.

(25m 13s)

Give me my story of seasons, please.

(25m 15s)

Apparently, Marvellous said in a call this week that they have some anniversary stuff to talk about, which they were mentioning like events and stuff like that.

(25m 27s)

They didn’t mention a game, but I don’t think they would mention a game because they wanted to be a surprise.

(25m 32s)

So.

(25m 33s) Kevin:

Yeah, they’re going to look, they’re going to shadow drop it on November 19th.

(25m 37s)

They’re gonna, they’re going to do it.

(25m 39s)

They going to have the Fitzpah.

(25m 40s) Al:

Is that the anniversary?

(25m 41s) Kevin:

No, that’s the day GTA comes out.

(25m 44s) Al:

Oh, of course, Gigi.

(25m 45s)

That would be very funny, but I feel like you got in not shadow drop it for that day.

(25m 50s)

Also, that’s not the day that is coming.

(25m 52s)

GTA is coming out.

(25m 54s) Kevin:

No, I thought it was.

(25m 54s) Al:

I’m standing by it.

(25m 55s) Kevin:

Oh, oh, oh, okay.

(25m 56s) Al:

not coming out this year.

(25m 58s) Kevin:

You’re, you’re a believe.

(25m 59s)

They’re saying it.

(26m)

Sony said it.

(26m 2s)

We’ll see. Yeah.

(26m 2s) Al:

Yeah, they can say it all they want.

(26m 3s)

That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

(26m 4s) Kevin:

Oh, I mean.

(26m 5s) Al:

Still don’t think it’s happening.

(26m 7s)

That’s all I’m saying.

(26m 9s) Kevin:

All right.

(26m 10s)

You might be right.

(26m 11s)

It’s it’s June.

(26m 13s)

They still have time to delay.

(26m 14s)

You’re right.

(26m 15s) Al:

Exactly, exactly.

(26m 17s)

Look, we’ve had we’ve had games that have been up for pre-ordered delay before.

(26m 21s)

Animal Crossing.

(26m 22s)

That delayed by 6 months after you could pre-odrite.

(26m 25s) Kevin:

Oh, good.

(26m 28s) Al:

All right, we will keep you up to date with Harvest Moon, and I should probably order the physical so I can sell it.

Kynseed

(26m 37s) Al:

Next up, we have Kinseed.

(26m 39s)

They have announced 2 things.

(26m 40s)

First up, they’ve got a tavern update, which is out now, and that, can you guess where that includes Kevin?

(26m 47s) Kevin:

Uh, does it include a place where you can gather and have a drink perhaps?

(26m 52s) Al:

It includes a tavern.

(26m 55s) Kevin:

Wow.

(26m 57s) Al:

This has been one of the most requested editions from the community, apparently.

(27m)

So we’re more excited than that time, Herbert Lemon got a new woolly cloak.

(27m 6s)

I think that might be a joke from the game.

(27m 8s)

I don’t know.

(27m 9s) Kevin:

I probably… I haven’t either.

(27m 9s) Al:

I haven’t played it.

(27m 12s) Kevin:

Uh, yeah.

(27m 13s) Al:

But they’ve also announced that their game is coming to consoles on the 4th of August.

(27m 21s) Kevin:

Good for them.

(27m 21s)

I’ll be honest.

(27m 22s) Al:

That’s.

(27m 22s) Kevin:

I didn’t remember this game, but looking at the video, there’s there’s stuff going on, actually.

(27m 27s)

I like their monster dessert.

(27m 28s) Al:

Uh, Yeah, I, what do you think about the graphics?

(27m 32s)

What’s your opinion?

(27m 33s)

Because I know sometimes we’re very similar in graphics and sometimes we’re very different on graphics.

(27m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah, um, It’s okay.

(27m 42s)

It’s a little, there’s a few spots where it’s rough around the edges.

(27m 45s)

Like, I don’t think it’s bad.

(27m 47s)

Um.

(27m 49s)

There’s parts that look really good, like I said, just said, the monster designs, I think, look good.

(27m 53s)

Um, so the animation looks good.

(27m 56s)

But like, I look at some of the, like, echo human designs.

(27m 58s)

I’m like, yeah, I’m not feeling it.

(27m 59s) Al:

I hate the human designs.

(28m 1s)

I hate the people.

(28m 3s) Kevin:

Yeah, I’m not feeling it.

(28m 3s) Al:

I mean, just in general, but no, I just, the, the, the, the sprites for the humans just look really weird.

(28m 10s)

I don’t like them.

(28m 11s) Kevin:

Yeah, it’s, it’s almost like.

(28m 12s) Al:

I think it’s partly that they’re all, they all seem to be facing the camera most of the time that’s putting me off.

(28m 18s)

Like, I don’t want to see both sides of your face at the same time.

(28m 21s) Kevin:

Sure. Sure, there’s, yeah, there’s, I don’t, I don’t even know like for, this is a very weird way to describe it, but they almost have Muppet like designs, but which doesn’t fit the aesthetic exactly.

(28m 34s)

Um,

(28m 35s) Al:

Yeah, no, I get your point.

(28m 36s)

It’s like proportion.

(28m 36s) Kevin:

Yeah, something about that.

(28m 38s)

some of them got those really big noses.

(28m 41s)

Um, which I don’t know.

(28m 43s)

Um, it just doesn’t fit the tone, but, uh, yeah, so like, yeah, no, that’s definitely a rough spot there.

(28m 50s)

But, um, there’s a lot going on.

(28m 53s)

I mean, I forgot about this game, but I’m interested.

(28m 56s)

I come into consoles.

(28m 58s)

Will that get me to buy it?

(28m 59s)

Hey, maybe.

(28m 59s) Al:

Mm-hmm. Um, I have not played it.

(29m 4s)

I’m not really playing to.

(29m 6s)

It is 75% off.

(29m 10s)

That’s a thing.

(29m 11s) Kevin:

Cool.

(29m 11s) Al:

But yeah, so coming to Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox one, Xbox, series, Xbox, series, S on the 4th of August.

(29m 20s)

Next up, Bitter Harvest, have released a new update, the one.

Bitter Harvest

(29m 25s) Al:

4 update this brings animals, you can now raise chickens, ducks, cows, goats, and they work exactly how you’d expect.

(29m 34s) Kevin:

Yeah, animals.

(29m 36s) Al:

They’ve also added 4 new crops, beets, potato, kale, and tomato.

(29m 36s) Kevin:

Um.

(29m 40s) Al:

Kevin, this game feels like it’s an early access.

(29m 43s) Kevin:

Little bit, I was about to say, little bit, right?

(29m 46s)

Like, animals seem a little important when you’re farming, just, just saying, and then these crops.

(29m 54s)

Um, yeah, no, that that’s.

(29m 55s) Al:

Potato, why is potato being added in an update?

(29m 59s)

I don’t, I don’t understand.

(30m 2s) Kevin:

Yeah, I don’t either.

(30m 3s)

That’s that’s very strange.

(30m 5s)

How did you launch a farming game without cows?

(30m 7s)

How?

(30m 8s)

Um, and chickens.

(30m 9s) Al:

I’m very confused.

(30m 11s) Kevin:

Right, like, okay, you know what?

(30m 13s)

goat’s fine.

(30m 13s)

Goats maybe.

(30m 14s)

That’s a later one, but cow and chickens kind of kind of important.

(30m 17s)

Um, Man, I always get a whiplash from this game, because when I think of bitter harvest, I think of that, uh, that, that cover art, you know, that image with, uh, that’s kind of, kind of, suspicious feeling, um, and then you get the, the actual game art, very, very different.

(30m 28s) Al:

Yep.

(30m 34s) Kevin:

Um, But, uh, yeah, one.

(30m 39s)

(30m 40s)

Um, I get, do we wait for 2.0?

(30m 43s)

Is that the actual one.

(30m 44s) Al:

I feel like at this point you’re probably waiting for 4.0, but we’ll see.

(30m 49s)

We’ll see.

(30m 50s)

They’ve also added more farm space, sprinklers, watering can upgrades, and stamina upgrades through cooking.

(30m 58s) Kevin:

That’s all, that’s a lot of stuff that should have been.

(31m 1s) Al:

This is why this is the thing.

(31m 2s)

Like I think if this was early access, it would feel more excusable that that stuff wasn’t there.

(31m 7s)

Um, hard to know what to do, but there we go.

(31m 8s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(31m 12s)

Yeah.

(31m 12s)

There’s no way.

(31m 12s) Al:

Speaking of updates.

Outbound

(31m 16s) Al:

I was going to be mean and say updates that should have been there from the beginning.

(31m 19s)

Actually, I disagree.

(31m 20s)

I think this is an update that should never have happened.

(31m 23s) Kevin:

I also think this.

(31m 26s) Al:

Outbound of added fishing for some reason.

(31m 30s) Kevin:

Yeah, I.

(31m 31s) Al:

I don’t understand because like I was, I mean, okay, sure.

(31m 35s)

We’re moving around a world in a camper van and we’re gathering things to survive.

(31m 39s)

Sure, fine.

(31m 40s)

Do fishing if you want.

(31m 42s)

I just, I was never,

(31m 43s)

felt like it was missing.

(31m 45s)

Like there were things I don’t like about that game.

(31m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(31m 47s) Al:

There are things I always improve.

(31m 48s)

None of that would be I want fish.

(31m 51s) Kevin:

Here is my issue.

(31m 53s)

Um, I think, because like I look at the fishing, the mechanics, animation, looks pretty robust, all things considered.

(32m)

Um, My issue is this is outbound.

(32m 4s)

This is the RV, you know, camp, whatever you want to call it, game, right?

(32m 9s)

I feel like everything should be revolving around that.

(32m 10s) Al:

Yeah.

(32m 12s) Kevin:

So if you’re going to fish, why am I not fishing off the vehicle?

(32m 14s) Al:

Mm-hmm.

(32m 17s) Kevin:

You’re going to separate buildings.

(32m 19s) Al:

Yeah.

(32m 21s)

Yeah, I’m guessing that like that, I don’t know whether it’s, I don’t know whether there’s only one specific spot you can fish in or whether it’s like that’s where you can buy the fishing rods and start fishing, which feels a bit like that feels weird.

(32m 29s) Kevin:

There’s a few spots.

(32m 33s)

Yeah, it’s like a fishing hut.

(32m 36s) Al:

If you’re going out to camp and you’re going to live off the land, take a fishing rod with you.

(32m 42s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(32m 42s)

Yeah.

(32m 43s) Al:

Don’t wait to see if you can buy one somewhere.

(32m 46s)

What are you doing?

(32m 47s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(32m 47s)

Yeah.

(32m 49s)

Why is there not a dog off my trailer RV thing?

(32m 52s)

That’s the whole point.

(32m 55s)

But the fish look nice.

(32m 56s)

You can build aquariums in your trailer thing.

(33m 1s) Al:

Yeah, so here’s a question.

(33m 2s)

Is it is it just, yeah, okay, yeah, I’m reading it.

(33m 5s)

So it’s not, you’re not actually fishing to eat them.

(33m 8s)

You’re only fishing to have the fish.

(33m 11s)

Please note we decided fish will not serve as a source of nutrition.

(33m 15s)

Instead, they are intended as collectable and decorative elements for your homes.

(33m 18s)

I get what they’re doing, they’re trying to be like, oh, we can, we’re still a vegan game if you want.

(33m 24s)

We’re also like, is fishing for captivity better?

(33m 24s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(33m 29s)

Um…

(33m 31s) Al:

Like if, like, seriously, like if you, if you disagree with any animal consumption, full stop, right?

(33m 31s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(33m 38s)

Mm-hmm.

(33m 39s) Al:

Which I personally do not, but I am not going to say that someone is wrong for believing that.

(33m 44s)

If that is what your opinion is, I don’t see how hooking a fish on a hook and then throwing it into a fish tank is somehow better.

(33m 55s)

Like that surely is just as cruel.

(33m 55s) Kevin:

Yeah, it does uh.

(33m 57s)

Yeah, it’s not our, it doesn’t sit, it does not seem to fit in the theme of the, the, harmony with nature, right?

(34m 6s)

Um, that outbound kind of bushes.

(34m 9s)

I agree.

(34m 10s)

It feels kind of strange.

(34m 11s)

Um, if it went somewhere else.

(34m 13s)

I don’t know, a fish rescue centre.

(34m 17s)

I don’t know what, something like that maybe, but.

(34m 18s) Al:

I’m not sure how why you would be rescuing them by fishing them up though.

(34m 20s) Kevin:

I don’t know research.

(34m 22s) Al:

This is the thing like the fishing is the problem.

(34m 25s)

surely with fishing.

(34m 26s)

Like, I’ve always, I mean, this is just, okay, no, I’m not going to say that.

(34m 31s)

I’m going to leave.

(34m 32s) Kevin:

I’ll say this, fish are delicious.

(34m 35s)

I like fish tea.

(34m 38s)

I’m just saying.

(34m 40s)

I also like fish.

(34m 41s)

You know, I have some goldfish.

(34m 43s)

That’s fine, but, um, it’s not the same as fishing it out of the lake, ever, and putting it in a small little tank in your RV.

(34m 52s)

Um,

(34m 53s) Al:

Yeah, I just, I, it’s, it seems, it seems like a weird decision to be like, oh, we don’t want you to eat the fish, but we do want…

(35m 2s) Kevin:

What?

(35m 2s) Al:

Anyway, if you really want fishing, there you go, you got your fishing and your camper van.

(35m 5s) Kevin:

There.

(35m 10s)

Except not fish.

(35m 13s) Al:

Next up, Sunhaven have released a 3.one update, and this is a quality of life improvements update.

Sun Haven

(35m 20s) Al:

They have added repairable items.

(35m 23s) Kevin:

That’s good.

(35m 23s) Al:

They have added a pop-up when you gain a new recipe.

(35m 29s) Kevin:

That’s also good.

(35m 30s) Al:

They’ve also added credits to the game.

(35m 33s) Kevin:

That’s really good.

(35m 34s)

That’s so good.

(35m 37s)

It should have been there from the start.

(35m 38s) Al:

It sounds like they actually, it sounded like, actually, I’m not sure if the credits existed in the game at all, because the 1st one has added the credits button to the main menu.

(35m 38s) Kevin:

That feels very…

(35m 47s) Al:

And then there’s added team credits and added community credits.

(35m 47s) Kevin:

Okay.

(35m 50s) Al:

So that does make it sound like there were no credits full stop.

(35m 54s) Kevin:

I will be, to give the generous interpretation, there have been more people who have helped out, so they’re adding credits to the credits.

(36m 2s)

But I agree with you.

(36m 4s)

It does sound like there were no credits to begin with, which is not good.

(36m 6s) Al:

Do you know, do you know?

Credits Tangent

(36m 8s) Al:

Well, so here’s my here’s my take on credits in games.

(36m 11s)

I find it a little bit weird.

(36m 14s)

Now, I understand that credits are in games because it’s kind, they’re kind of treated like film TV, stuff like that.

(36m 22s)

And those have credits.

(36m 22s) Kevin:

Mhm.

(36m 23s) Al:

But, and this is not, this is not me saying that people should not be credited for the work, right?

(36m 28s)

Let me get that out there.

(36m 29s) Kevin:

Yes.

(36m 29s)

Okay.

(36m 30s) Al:

As okay.

(36m 33s) Kevin:

Yes.

(36m 34s) Al:

I’m trying to be very careful with my wording here.

(36m 37s)

I, I,

(36m 38s) Kevin:

Yeah, I could tell because yeah, you’re dancing here.

(36m 39s) Al:

There’s, I’m all about the solidarity and the unions and the working people.

(36m 45s)

I just want to make it clear.

(36m 46s)

This is specific to credits.

(36m 49s)

I find credits weird because there are very few jobs in the world where you’re working on something means your name gets splattered on the end of it.

(37m)

Film, TV games.

(37m) Kevin:

Sure.

(37m 3s) Al:

That’s basically it, right?

(37m 6s)

Can you, can you imagine if every website you went to had a list of every single person that had worked on that?

(37m 13s) Kevin:

I guess so, eh, that would be.

(37m 16s)

Um.

(37m 16s) Al:

That, that, like, just coming from my point of view of my work, like I make websites.

(37m 22s)

I would find it really weird if that was a thing that happened.

(37m 26s)

And obviously games tend to have credits because they’re treated more like film and TV than they are treated like websites and software and stuff like that.

(37m 36s)

And you know, I do get that sometimes software does also have like a credits page, but it tends to be much more limited, right?

(37m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(37m 45s) Al:

Like big pieces of software don’t tend to because like a little indie thing will generally have the credits of the people who’ve worked on it because they want to put their name on it, but like big things don’t tend to and they have many, many, many more people that work on a project.

(37m 59s)

I’m not, I don’t think I’m saying that I don’t think credits should exist.

(38m) Kevin:

Right.

(38m 4s) Al:

I just find it as a concept really weird because it’s really unique to one specific area of life and nobody else in their jobs gets credits.

(38m 13s)

And I know the argument here is like, oh, right, fine.

(38m 16s)

Well, then you should work for other jobs to give credits rather than removing credits from the jobs they give them.

(38m 23s)

But I don’t know if I’d want my name on all the websites that I make.

(38m 28s) Kevin:

Sure.

(38m 29s) Al:

Because a lot of them are making substandard stuff.

(38m 35s)

And that’s not because I want to.

(38m 37s)

It’s not because that’s what I’m trying to do.

(38m 38s)

It’s because like people do that.

(38m 40s)

People make you make things that are bad, right?

(38m 43s)

And that is also the case with games and TV and film.

(38m 44s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(38m 47s) Al:

And I bet there are people who are like, oh, my name has to be on this.

(38m 48s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(38m 52s) Al:

Like, 0 my word, I can’t believe my name has to be forever tied to this piece of media that’s dreadful.

(38m 53s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(38m 53s)

Yeah, there are some people use.

(38m 59s)

People hide their names even or use a, you know, uh, pseudonym for the credits.

(39m 4s)

It happens, yeah.

(39m 5s) Al:

Oh, interesting.

(39m 6s)

Is that that’s a thing that happened?

(39m 8s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s absolutely the thing that happens.

(39m 9s)

Um, I know it’s, it’s prominent in movies.

(39m 13s)

Um, I don’t know how much that happens in in game credits, but that is a thing that happens.

(39m 15s) Al:

Interesting

(39m 18s) Kevin:

People will use pseudonyms.

(39m 19s) Al:

But then, then what are we doing?

(39m 21s)

Why, what are we doing?

(39m 22s)

If if some people are not even in the credits, why are we putting pretend names in the credits, they’re not you’re not giving credit then.

(39m 30s) Kevin:

Yeah, well, I mean, that’s at that point, that’s that person’s choice, how they want to be credited, right?

(39m 35s)

Um.

(39m 36s) Al:

I don’t know.

(39m 36s)

I just like, I’m not saying we should not do this.

(39m 39s)

I’m not saying that.

(39m 40s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(39m 40s)

Well.

(39m 41s) Al:

I don’t want people to come at me and say, I can’t believe you’re saying that people shouldn’t get credit for what they make.

(39m 46s)

I’m not saying that.

(39m 47s)

I’m saying I find credit’s weird, just as a concept.

(39m 51s)

Weird.

(39m 51s) Kevin:

Yeah, well, I think, how should I put this?

(39m 55s)

okay.

(39m 55s)

There’s 2 ways in my in my head, um, to think about it.

(39m 59s)

Um, one is the, the, the more fancy, like, uh, as, as an artist, right?

(40m 5s)

I make a drawing.

(40m 7s)

I sign it or, you know, I want people to know I made this.

(40m 10s)

Like, I think that’s very clear why I would want that, right?

(40m 13s)

Just for ownership’s sake, nothing else, right?

(40m 16s)

Um, and I think a lot of it does stem from that.

(40m 20s)

Um, You know, these these fields are talking about movies, games, books, shows, whatever.

(40m 27s)

Um, all basically artistic mediums and stuff like that.

(40m 30s)

And there’s, you know, to different extents, different parts of it.

(40m 31s) Al:

Yes.

(40m 34s) Kevin:

Um, so I do think people who work on it want to at least be acknowledged they were involved on a project.

(40m 40s)

Um, I think that’s understandable and fair.

(40m 43s)

Um, I think there’s all.

(40m 44s) Al:

There are many other artistic mediums that don’t get credited, right?

(40m 47s)

Like, I don’t even need to get into the argument of software, right?

(40m 50s)

Like I do think that building software is art, but like, say, for example, like Lego models.

(40m 53s) Kevin:

Sure.

(40m 53s)

No, I agree.

(40m 54s)

Yeah.

(40m 56s) Al:

People who design the Lego models, they don’t get credited.

(40m 59s)

That’s 100% R.

(40m 59s) Kevin:

Yeah, no.

(41m)

Yeah, oh, I agree.

(41m) Al:

You know there’s so many things like that.

(41m 2s)

And again, yeah, yeah, I know the argument is, oh, well maybe they should fight to get it.

(41m 6s)

I get that.

(41m 7s)

I totally get that just as a concept that we shouldn’t take away people’s rights and we should fight for us to get the rights instead.

(41m 13s)

I totally get that.

(41m 14s)

But I just find credit as a general idea really weird.

(41m 16s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(41m 18s)

Sure.

(41m 19s) Al:

Like to me, to me, the reason I work and maybe this is different.

(41m 23s)

Maybe this is different for different people.

(41m 24s)

To me, the reason I work is because I have to work and I have to get paid.

(41m 27s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(41m 28s) Al:

And the credit for doing my job is I get the money.

(41m 32s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(41m 32s) Al:

And I go thank you for the money.

(41m 34s)

And then I’m done.

(41m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(41m 36s) Al:

I find it weird when people are like, I mean, this is probably the, you know, the Scottish person in me.

(41m 42s)

I don’t like when people say you did a good job because that makes me feel weird and like people are like, oh, well, I want to be told that I feel I’ve been good at my job and I’m like, but you get the money.

(41m 50s)

The money is the thank you for doing the job.

(41m 53s)

I don’t need thanks for doing my job.

(41m 55s)

I want the money.

(41m 56s)

Let’s not pretend I’m here because I want to be.

(41m 57s) Kevin:

Sure.

(42m 1s) Al:

I’m here because of the money.

(42m 2s) Kevin:

Sure.

(42m 3s)

No, I, I, look, I, I agree, and there are, I would say, even say the majority of jobs are probably like that, or, you know, um, but, again, I think these is much more, well, traditionally artistic leaning jobs.

(42m 17s)

Um, I think people might feel a little more strongly about it.

(42m 21s)

Um, If I were working on a game, I would want to get my name plastered somewhere.

(42m 22s) Al:

Yeah.

(42m 26s) Kevin:

Um,

(42m 28s)

But like, that’s somewhat personal too.

(42m 31s)

Um, I’m just saying that seems to be the trend though.

(42m 34s)

Um, but I, I,

(42m 35s) Al:

Would you want your name put on the stuff that you make in your job just now?

(42m 39s) Kevin:

Uh, I, honestly, when I save my uh, files at work, uh, I, I will and put my initials, part, uh, partially for the, uh, like transparency or practicality of saying, hey, who made this, go to him with their questions?

(42m 55s)

Um, Also, yes, I’m signing my name.

(42m 58s)

I’m putting my initials.

(42m 59s)

Um.

(43m) Al:

Mm.

(43m) Kevin:

But that’s a little more complex because, uh, how should I put this, my work is not end facing, let’s say, or or outward facing.

(43m 10s) Al:

Sure.

(43m 10s) Kevin:

It’s more internal.

(43m 11s)

Um, but so that, that’s just a tiny thing for me.

(43m 12s) Al:

Sure, but like the end facing stuff couldn’t happen without your work.

(43m 14s) Kevin:

Yeah, true.

(43m 16s)

And to be fair, you know what?

(43m 19s)

I would.

(43m 19s)

I there are 100s of air conditioning systems out in the United States that I designed.

(43m 25s)

And yes, my name should be on there.

(43m 26s) Al:

Yeah, and.

(43m 27s)

And if we and if we take films as an example, there are people credits on there that their job was incredibly vital for it to happen, but it’s also not facing.

(43m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(43m 37s) Al:

You know, like you see, like assistant to so-and-so gets credited.

(43m 38s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(43m 41s)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I agree.

(43m 43s)

I agree.

(43m 44s)

Um, So, I mean, yeah, you’re, you’re, it’s, it’s, it’s a weird thing.

(43m 50s)

You’re right.

(43m 50s)

Well, the other part I was going to say, like, I think it’s also important just for the, how should I put this, the ownership, right?

(43m 58s)

The more practical, like, almost legal.

(44m 2s)

to be able to say, good thing, something in a portfolio, to have credit, um, uh, to make it very clear that, yes, you did work on this project and to prove it.

(44m 11s) Al:

Yeah, I mean, in my in my industry, like, you will give examples of what you’ve worked on and nobody ever really questions it.

(44m 17s) Kevin:

Oh, sure.

(44m 18s)

No, I agree.

(44m 20s)

Uh, yeah, and same thing in my industry.

(44m 22s)

Nobody would question it either.

(44m 23s)

Um, but I, I, in, but look in the art world, especially with all the AI nonsense going on, like, it’s, it’s, it’s a problem.

(44m 32s)

Um, big comp, even before the world of AI.

(44m 34s) Al:

That’s a whole other question, though.

(44m 35s)

The ownership doesn’t seem to matter in that situation.

(44m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah, well, I know, but.

(44m 37s) Al:

We’re not, you’re like, all these problems are not being solved.

(44m 39s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, but that.

(44m 40s) Al:

Like, I think that’s just an example of like, oh, it doesn’t really matter what you think because eventually someone’s going to go and take it from you anyway.

(44m 48s) Kevin:

Yeah, well yeah, there’s that.

(44m 50s)

But this is that’s why you do the credits in a somewhat feeble attempt to circumvent that.

(44m 56s)

It’s what you can do.

(44m 57s)

But, uh, but you’re right, uh, when you’re at that point, there’s not much you can, dude.

(44m 58s) Al:

Yeah.

(45m 1s) Kevin:

Credits don’t matter.

(45m 4s)

Um.

(45m 6s) Al:

Anyway, again, just to be clear, not trying to say that workers should have any less rights, I’m not saying that the hard fought for rights, that particularly union strong jobs in artistic industries have gained.

(45m 21s)

I am very pro that.

(45m 22s)

I think it is amazing what they’ve done to get themselves the rights in so many ways.

(45m 26s)

Specifically credits.

(45m 28s)

I just find as a concept.

(45m 31s) Kevin:

I was removing my name from this episode in all future episodes going forward.

(45m 35s) Al:

No, so that’s an interesting, that’s an interesting thing because, like, obviously at the bottom of every episode in the show notes.

(45m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah.

(45m 41s) Al:

It says that this podcast is created by me, which is half true.

(45m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(45m 46s)

Yeah.

(45m 48s) Al:

Do you know what, like, because there’s the thing, right?

(45m 49s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah.

(45m 53s) Al:

Like at some point, I took people’s names off things that they were no longer working on.

(45m 58s)

That doesn’t mean that they didn’t create it.

(46m)

help create it.

(46m 1s) Kevin:

Yeah, originally, yeah, but yeah, yeah.

(46m 3s) Al:

But like people can’t have ownership over something forever, especially if they no longer want to be part.

(46m 10s) Kevin:

Yep, and yeah, they’re not contributing or or we actually want to be part of it.

(46m 14s)

Yeah, you’re right.

(46m 15s)

Um, yeah, I don’t follow you for that.

(46m 17s) Al:

I mean, there’s a whole other that’s a whole other conversation, right?

(46m 19s)

Because like when we’re talking about games or film or TV, they’re generally, I mean, games are a little bit more complicated, but generally you make a thing and then you release a thing.

(46m 20s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(46m 28s) Al:

And then if someone stops working on things, then they’re not going to be working on the next one.

(46m 29s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(46m 33s) Al:

More complicated when games are really long drawn out processes, but you generally wouldn’t, like, someone is still, I guess the thing is that, like, this is an episodic thing.

(46m 44s)

So someone being involved in the 1st episode of something does not give them the right to have,

(46m 44s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(46m 52s) Al:

No, I’m going too deep into this.

(46m 53s)

I’m gonna cut that bit.

(46m 55s) Kevin:

That’s fair.

(46m 56s) Al:

It’s too inside baseball.

(46m 58s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(46m 58s) Al:

Credits, weird, I find, not saying they shouldn’t exist.

(47m 2s)

I just find it interesting.

(47m 6s)

Moving on.

(47m 6s) Kevin:

And they’re in Sunhaven.

(47m 8s) Al:

Hotel Galactic have released their 1st update since the, um, they were taken over.

Hotel Galactic

(47m 15s) Al:

Presumably that happened a long time ago because they announced that they’d taken over the game a week ago and now we’ve got what looks like quite a big update.

(47m 23s)

So I’m guessing it’s been a while, but this is the 0.67 update.

(47m 26s) Kevin:

Who’s? Which?

(47m 30s)

Which team is credited for this update?

(47m 33s) Al:

Oh boy, that brings up whole other things, right?

(47m 36s)

The whole other questions, which I don’t want to get into.

(47m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(47m 40s)

Yeah.

(47m 42s) Al:

So with a 0.6.7 update which has the name digging deeper, they have added mines.

(47m 50s)

Well, it’s called the Undergrounds, but it’s it’s mines.

(47m 51s) Kevin:

Wow.

(47m 52s)

Shocker shocker.

(47m 55s) Al:

They’ve also added a fast travel system with teleports.

(47m 58s) Kevin:

That, that’s a good one.

(47m 59s) Al:

Tell or portals.

(48m 1s)

They keep changing their mind on what it’s called.

(48m 3s) Kevin:

That’s uh, that’s a that’s a handy dandy feature.

(48m 6s)

There, I, maybe I just need to play the game.

(48m 10s)

I thought I was running a hotel.

(48m 12s) Al:

Yeah.

(48m 14s)

And so you got portals in your hotel name.

(48m 16s) Kevin:

To the mind?

(48m 16s) Al:

Some of the suggest, well, the mines…

(48m 20s)

Yeah.

(48m 20s)

If you ever found yourself thinking, I don’t have enough stone while crafting furniture in Hotel Galactic, you can now safely tuck this memory away.

(48m 27s)

With this update, your hotel will start growing downward, and you’ll not only be able to explore the undergrounds, but also mine several different resources, yes, including stone, within these halls, construct rooms, decorate, and enjoy the new layers of planning you can achieve with this edition.

(48m 40s)

Can I put guests in the basement?

(48m 45s) Kevin:

Can I put them to work in the mine?

(48m 47s) Al:

And then the fast travel system, some of the suggestions and feedback were received on a rather regular basis dealt with the slight inconvenience of the in game island being rather spacious, and that it takes quite a time, quite a while for your workers to go from one side of the island to another, and we hear you.

(49m 2s)

It does take a bit for them to do that.

(49m 5s)

And I can only imagine they keep, they keep, the changing between we and I.

(49m 10s)

That’s messing me up.

(49m 11s)

I can only imagine the tiredness after a day spent walking like that.

(49m 15s)

To remedy that issue and make sure that your workers can move around the island much faster.

(49m 19s)

We’re introducing teleport system that will greatly improve both your experience as a player and your workers’ lives. In essence, the teleport system will allow your workers to teleport from one point.

(49m 29s)

Why are they over explaining what teleporting is?

(49m 33s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah they kind of are.

(49m 35s) Al:

From one place on the map to another, pretty simple and effective.

(49m 38s)

And yes, you’ll be able to place these teleports as you like with very minor exceptions.

(49m 44s)

What’s more, these teleports are not just for your workers, guests can use them as well.

(49m 50s)

Let them jump in and instantly be whisked away to another place, letting them quickly reach many of the amenities you have prepared for them in your venue.

(49m 58s)

Oh, boy.

(50m)

Uh, sure, sounds good.

(50m 2s)

I feel like these posts could be better words.

(50m 8s) Kevin:

A lot of words to say we have teleport, hotel portals.

(50m 10s) Al:

Yeah.

(50m 11s) Kevin:

A quick jump.

(50m 14s) Al:

And they are adding some more guest related stuff, story related stuff, uh, some new rooms, uh, and a new decoration system, et cetera.

(50m 21s) Kevin:

Cinema.

(50m 26s) Al:

Why are all my workers a specific race?

(50m 29s)

Is this a, um…

(50m 31s)

Have we created apartheid here?

(50m 34s)

Have you noticed this?

(50m 34s) Kevin:

Maybe.

(50m 35s)

Yeah.

(50m 36s) Al:

They’re all a very specific type of creature that your workers?

(50m 39s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(50m 39s)

Yeah.

(50m 39s) Al:

I don’t like this.

(50m 40s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(50m 42s)

There’s the working class.

(50m 44s)

What do you what do you want?

(50m 48s) Al:

Uh, not sleeves?

(50m 51s)

That’s what I would like.

(50m 57s)

Sorry, is that is that too much to ask?

(50m 59s)

To not have racism in my game.

(51m) Kevin:

Maybe.

(51m 4s)

What what if they were meant to be?

(51m 6s) Al:

All right, J.K. Rowling.

(51m 11s)

All right.

(51m 12s)

Two more pieces of news before the the new game.

(51m 16s)

First up, GoGoTown have announced that their early access saves will not be compatible with one.

Go-go Town

(51m 22s) Al:

(51m 23s) Kevin:

That’s not good.

(51m 25s) Al:

I don’t like this.

(51m 26s)

I know that there is an argument for this and like, oh, blah, blah, like keeping all of the like old saves working forever throughout early access into one.

(51m 37s)

can be a lot of work and they want a fresh start for one.

(51m 40s)

Oh.

(51m 40s)

I get that.

(51m 41s)

But this is a problem that will continue forever.

(51m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(51m 44s) Al:

And I don’t I don’t think that anyone would accept it.

(51m 47s)

Any other point except this, and it always rubs me the wrong way when this happens because you’re the one that’s changing how the save works.

(51m 56s)

You know how the data has changed.

(51m 58s)

You can fix it.

(52m 1s)

It’s just data.

(52m 2s)

Right?

(52m 3s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(52m 4s) Al:

Like, so, this again goes back to me being a software developer.

(52m 9s)

When we have databases and we change how the database works.

(52m 13s)

You don’t just go to customers and go, sorry, your date is gone.

(52m 16s)

You have to start again.

(52m 17s)

That’s not how it works.

(52m 19s)

You update, you have scripts that fix these things so that everyone’s data still works.

(52m 25s)

And if you don’t, you get sued.

(52m 29s)

Like, this is a thing that happens.

(52m 32s)

And and they have to do it as well.

(52m 33s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(52m 35s) Al:

They have been doing it up to this and they will be doing it after it.

(52m 39s)

What they say is this is a one time thing.

(52m 41s)

Okay, well if it’s a one time thing, you didn’t need to do it this time.

(52m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah, but that’s work.

(52m 47s) Al:

Yeah, I get, I absolutely get that.

(52m 49s)

You’re making the game, right?

(52m 51s)

Like I just, I, I, it annoys me because it’s like it’s not a unique thing, right?

(52m 57s)

Going, oh, our save format has changed.

(52m 57s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(52m 59s) Al:

I get that.

(53m 1s)

That’s annoying.

(53m 2s)

That’s what happens when you add features into a game and I get that it’s annoying.

(53m 6s)

But this is a thing you will have been dealing with and will be dealing with.

(53m 9s)

For some reason, when you come out of early access, it is socially acceptable to go, ah, bye-bye to your save files.

(53m 16s)

There’s one specific thing.

(53m 17s) Kevin:

Yeah, it’s not great.

(53m 18s) Al:

Never, at any other point, do people accept this, but for some reason, when you come, the people who have played the game through its development, have funded the game through its final development, they are the ones that suddenly get their saves destroyed.

(53m 36s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s the kicker, especially if you pay for an early access, like, I almost feel there’s legal shenanigans you could get into.

(53m 43s) Al:

Yeah, it’s, it’s one thing, it’s, It is one thing if it’s a demo, right?

(53m 48s)

Like I’m, I, I love when a game has a demo and then that safe file continues on to the game.

(53m 49s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(53m 52s) Al:

I think that is great.

(53m 53s)

I think that is good.

(53m 53s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(53m 54s) Al:

That is pro-consumer.

(53m 55s)

But I get that that is not something that is required.

(53m 58s)

It’s a demo, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

(54m)

Fine, I get that.

(54m 1s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(54m 1s) Al:

But when I’m playing a game, I bought a game, I’m playing a game and now I’m just updating the game to the next version, I should be able to continue what I had.

(54m 9s)

And I get that sometimes it will be like, oh, well, the game will be better if you start a new safe.

(54m 14s)

Sure, fine, but let me choose to do that.

(54m 16s)

They say this is not the ideal outcome that we wanted.

(54m 19s)

However, one.

(54m 21s)

has so much packed into it and you will enjoy it.

(54m 23s)

I like how you’re telling me how to feel.

(54m 26s)

I will and you will enjoy it.

(54m 27s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah.

(54m 29s) Al:

You will enjoy it.

(54m 31s)

They also say, do we do promise this is a one off.

(54m 35s)

One.

(54m 35s)

saves are sacred.

(54m 36s)

not going anywhere.

(54m 37s)

Okay.

(54m 37s)

Sure.

(54m 39s)

I was annoyed when Carl Island did this.

(54m 41s)

I’m annoyed when you do it.

(54m 42s)

I think it is bad.

(54m 43s)

I don’t think you should do it.

(54m 44s)

I think you when you sell a game, you should be promising that that save will continue because that is, in my opinion, part of the contract.

(54m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(54m 53s)

Every, I mean, if, like I said, money is exchanged, yes, that’s, uh,

(54m 59s)

That’s your product, right?

(55m)

Like, yeah, that’s no bueno.

(55m 2s)

Um.

(55m 4s) Al:

The one positive they’re doing, and I don’t think this is a full positive, but at least it is something, is that they’ve said that they’re going to create a version of the game, which will be the last early access version of the game, which will play your existing saves.

(55m 19s)

So if you want to continue playing, but not get one.

(55m 23s)

0 then you can do that, which I guess is something.

(55m 27s)

But this all, it’s just, it’s all icky.

(55m 28s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(55m 31s) Al:

I don’t like it.

(55m 32s)

All right.

(55m 33s)

Basically, they say, uh, I’ll just, I’ll, the reasoning is that, uh, do making sure this saves work will mean that they can’t do other things instead.

(55m 43s)

That’s their argument, which I think is a stupid argument because it would just take longer, right?

(55m 45s) Kevin:

Dance.

(55m 45s)

Not great.

(55m 48s) Al:

They say we work to preserve saves and bring them forward, however, we found that the time spent doing this meant that one.

(55m 55s)

would not be as good of a game.

(55m 56s)

After much thought, we agreed that what we wanted from one.0 was to give you more features, more ways to play and more content, and to address as much of your feedback as you could.

(56m 4s)

You could say that, but anything.

(56m 6s)

You could say that about accessibility.

(56m 7s)

You could say that about graphics.

(56m 9s)

You could say that about anything, but you don’t think that any of them are acceptful to get rid of.

(56m 13s)

I don’t like it.

(56m 13s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(56m 14s)

I don’t need.

(56m 19s) Al:

All right.

(56m 19s)

On our final piece of news, except the new games is uh, ConcernDape is still making hunted chocolatier.

Haunted Chocolatier

(56m 20s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(56m 27s) Al:

That’s it.

(56m 28s)

That’s the news.

(56m 28s) Kevin:

What?

(56m 29s) Al:

He has released a new blog post that says still here.

(56m 30s) Kevin:

Shocker.

(56m 33s) Al:

Still grinding.

(56m 34s)

Yep, I’m still working on the game.

(56m 36s)

Feels kind of dumb posting the same thing over and over, but that’s the reality.

(56m 39s)

I know it’s taking a long time.

(56m 41s)

A big part of that is I’m being very thoughtful about every aspect of the game.

(56m 44s)

The things in the game which the player will be interacting with are using very often need to be perfect.

(56m 49s)

They need to be seamless, clear, intuitive, satisfacting.

(56m 53s)

Satisfying aesthetic.

(56m 55s)

It then goes into like talk about specifically what it is.

(56m 57s)

Like I, I, I don’t think anyone’s really arguing with you men.

(57m 1s)

to make the game.

(57m 3s)

I get that people, people are probably complaining, right?

(57m 7s)

Because they’re like, oh, where’s the blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

(57m 9s)

But I bet he’s not really reading that, right?

(57m 13s)

Like he doesn’t he doesn’t strike me as someone who’s like obsessing over people complaining online about the game taking a while.

(57m 18s)

He’s probably doing this to himself.

(57m 19s) Kevin:

No, he,

(57m 20s)

Yes, he’s as big as, like, like, a critic and obsession, like, it’s, this is, um, absolutely, uh, the definition of perfect is the enemy of good.

(57m 34s)

Um.

(57m 35s) Al:

That’s a, I guess that’s hard for us to say because we don’t know what state the game is in.

(57m 39s)

Like, I, I, I know that you, you joke about the game never coming out, but I don’t think it will end up being in that unless he like prematurely dies.

(57m 41s) Kevin:

Well, okay.

(57m 49s) Al:

Like, I think he has a specific thing he wants to hit and he’s going to hit it and it might take years, but I think he’s going to get there, right?

(57m 55s) Kevin:

No.

(57m 55s) Al:

Because he has released.

(57m 57s)

Six updates to Stardew.

(58m) Kevin:

Yeah, like that, that, that’s the thing, like, he knows how to release a game, like, I, I, I, I genuinely think like, yeah, he’s like, like you said, we said, he’s, he’s the reason he’s, he’s, he is holding himself up, like, the game could have been out, but I don’t think it’s meeting his quote unquote standards.

(58m 19s)

It’s not perfect.

(58m 20s)

Um, which is probably higher than anyone else’s, to be very frank.

(58m 25s)

And yes, it will…

(58m 26s) Al:

Well, the ironic thing is the longer he takes, the higher the expectations are, right?

(58m 30s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, it’s it’s uh, yeah, it’s uh, nasty.

(58m 33s)

Uh, cycle.

(58m 34s) Al:

Like, I think it’s the same about GTA 6, right?

(58m 36s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(58m 36s) Al:

Like GTA 6 will probably be a good game, but I don’t think it will live up to anyone’s standard.

(58m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah, and uh, yeah, so that’s why like, he really should just release it.

(58m 46s)

And, and here’s the thing about, like, concerned, we know him.

(58m 50s)

He’s gonna keep updating it for Infinity after it releases.

(58m 53s)

So like release, you know, a ver- like, even if it weren’t perfect.

(58m 54s) Al:

Yeah.

(59m) Kevin:

Like, I think you could still make a very good game that would sell well and people would enjoy, and then he could patch it up later, but he’s, he can’t do that.

(59m 8s)

It’s not perfect.

(59m 9s)

Like, that’s, that’s what I’m feeling, that he just, uh,

(59m 11s) Al:

Yeah, I guess I just, like, I get what you’re saying.

(59m 14s)

I just want to push back a little bit on that just in general because like we you don’t know.

(59m 20s)

Like, is it, is it that it’s not perfect and he wants to make it perfect or is it just that he keeps one?

(59m 25s)

Is it the silk song of it all, where it’s like adding more and adding more because you want to add more?

(59m 30s)

And that’s its own problem.

(59m 32s) Kevin:

Yeah, well, that’s the same vein, like.

(59m 35s)

There’s a point he could the, he could just say, okay, I’m going to release push button here to release right here, right?

(59m 40s) Al:

Sure.

(59m 41s)

Sure, but, but, but equally.

(59m 42s) Kevin:

Like that, that’s the point, whether he’s whether he’s polishing stuff or any more content.

(59m 47s)

It’s the point is.

(59m 48s) Al:

Equally, equally, Kevin, we cannot really compare the release timeline of this to Starji Valley, because Starji Valley, that’s all he was doing for years.

(1h)

And so we don’t know how much time he spent.

(1h 4s)

I know at this point he says he’s working 5 days on can haunted chocolateer and 2 on Stardew, which, by the way, insane.

(1h 11s)

Please stop doing that.

(1h 13s)

Well, before that, when he told us that, we didn’t, we don’t know how much across, you know, the one.

(1h 14s) Kevin:

Yes.

(1h 22s) Al:

5 update, the one.

(1h 23s)

6 update.

(1h 23s)

We don’t know how much of his time was spent on Stardew instead of haunted chocolatier.

(1h 28s)

And this is not to say that like, how dare he?

(1h 31s)

It’s more just like, I find it hard to judge when we don’t have the full picture.

(1h 35s)

And he’s never going to give us the full picture.

(1h 36s)

And when the game comes out, we’ll be like, this is amazing.

(1h 37s) Kevin:

Sure.

(1h 39s) Al:

I love this game.

(1h 40s)

But we wouldn’t know which bits wouldn’t have been there had he released it.

(1h 44s)

And I suspect, right?

(1h 45s)

Like, so if we, I’ve talked to before about how Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, feels makes Breath of the Wild feel like an incomplete game, even though Breath of the Wild felt like an amazing game at the time.

(1h 58s)

And I think the same thing would happen with haunted chocolatier.

(1h 59s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 1m 2s) Al:

If we get a version,

(1h 1m 5s)

I don’t think you would be able to look at it and go, oh, the game would have been fine without that.

(1h 1m 9s)

Because yes, the game probably would have been fine without that.

(1h 1m 13s)

But having got it now.

(1h 1m 15s)

You can’t really do that.

(1h 1m 17s) Kevin:

Look at Stardew.

(1h 1m 19s)

Do you ever feel any point Stardew felt lacking?

(1h 1m 22s) Al:

No, exactly.

(1h 1m 23s)

That’s exactly my, it’s the same thing.

(1h 1m 25s)

Yeah, I’ve talked about this before.

(1h 1m 25s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 1m 26s)

Well, exactly.

(1h 1m 26s) Al:

Like Stardew is the epitome of updates for games.

(1h 1m 27s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 1m 28s) Al:

Like there was a point.

(1h 1m 30s)

There was a point where Stardew feels like a full game and then everything else is additional to that.

(1h 1m 35s)

I do think there’s, there’s only, well, there’s one thing that I think that if you didn’t have in Stardew, it would, it wouldn’t feel lesser in that Ginger Island, but that’s a whole other conversation.

(1h 1m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah, exactly.

(1h 1m 44s) Al:

I just, like, it’s a hard one to judge, just because we don’t know what the game is like and we don’t know how what specific things he’s doing.

(1h 1m 51s) Kevin:

Well, yes, right.

(1h 1m 52s)

I’m.

(1h 1m 54s) Al:

And I, I, I, and also like I have played so many games where like his point is the UI and the experience needs to feel great and I agree with that.

(1h 2m 3s)

I 100% agree with that. Because there’s times where I played games where I’ve like, this would be a good game if it was actually fun to play.

(1h 2m 5s) Kevin:

Yes.

(1h 2m 9s) Al:

You know?

(1h 2m 11s) Kevin:

Yeah, I look, I agree, right?

(1h 2m 14s)

And you’re right, we never know, right?

(1h 2m 15s)

He could be fighting, you know, game crashing, severe bugs left and right.

(1h 2m 21s) Al:

I highly doubt it that.

(1h 2m 21s) Kevin:

Who knows?

(1h 2m 22s)

Uh, I I highly, but that’s the thing.

(1h 2m 24s)

Based off what we do have, right?

(1h 2m 27s)

We know he we see his track record.

(1h 2m 30s)

We know what he can do, what he’s put out.

(1h 2m 32s)

Like, he’s a very competent developer.

(1h 2m 36s)

Like, I think he could put out a more than serviceable game comparable to Stardew one.0.

(1h 2m 43s)

I’m sure he could have already done that with the chocolatier.

(1h 2m 45s) Al:

Right, well, no, so I think the… I think the problem, I think the problem is you’re ignoring what he’s saying, and what he’s saying is the core gameplay loop of making chocolate doesn’t feel right.

(1h 2m 46s) Kevin:

But he’s also…

(1h 2m 57s) Al:

That’s not something, that’s not something you can change after release.

(1h 2m 58s) Kevin:

Well, here’s well.

(1h 3m 2s)

Yeah, no, you’re right, but here’s the thing.

(1h 3m 4s)

Or here’s my thing.

(1h 3m 6s)

Like, what he feels that it doesn’t feel right to him, like, just knowing his how obsessed he is with perfecting stuff.

(1h 3m 15s)

Like, I think it might actually be okay where it is.

(1h 3m 19s)

Like if he…

(1h 3m 19s) Al:

I don’t know.

(1h 3m 20s)

I don’t know.

(1h 3m 21s)

Like, so, like, like, let’s compare this to State Life.

(1h 3m 21s) Kevin:

Well, again, we don’t know.

(1h 3m 23s) Al:

Here’s here’s a good example to compare it to.

(1h 3m 25s)

Let’s talk about like driving games.

(1h 3m 27s)

If you if you have a driving game that’s just not right.

(1h 3m 30s)

It feels really wrong.

(1h 3m 31s)

It changes it from this is a good game with a few flaws to

(1h 3m 37s)

I hate this because nothing feels right.

(1h 3m 39s)

You know, like, like when, so I have an estate, this is going to sound like an insane comparison, but please stick with me.

(1h 3m 40s) Kevin:

Sure.

(1h 3m 46s) Al:

So I wear glasses, but I have an astigmatism.

(1h 3m 50s)

I’m not short or long sighted, specifically astigmatism.

(1h 3m 53s)

And for those who don’t know what that means, that instead of my lens, the lens in my eye being the wrong shape, either too concave or too convex, instead the actual eyeball itself is a different shape.

(1h 4m 4s)

It’s not the right, it’s not the right shape.

(1h 4m 6s)

And so it, it, it changes everything rather than just short or long.

(1h 4m 11s)

I’m sure some people know exactly what I’m talking about, but just just so we’re all on the same page.

(1h 4m 16s)

See, when you change your prescription for an astigmatism, it changes how you view the entire world and like lines don’t feel straight anymore because you’ve been used to how they were, right?

(1h 4m 29s)

It’s not just that things are in focus now because your brain is really good at changing it and getting used to how things look.

(1h 4m 37s)

I didn’t know I needed glasses the 1st time because anything looked fuzzy.

(1h 4m 40s)

It didn’t.

(1h 4m 40s)

My brain was adapting for it.

(1h 4m 42s)

I knew I needed glasses because I had a sore head and I went for an eye test and it turned out I needed glasses.

(1h 4m 47s)

And so when I got new prescription in January and I spent a week going, the entire world feels wrong.

(1h 4m 54s)

I hated everything.

(1h 4m 56s)

I was angry at everything.

(1h 4m 57s)

I did not want these glasses because everything felt wrong.

(1h 4m 59s)

And I think he’s talking about something like that, that like there’s something that he needs to change and he’s not figured it out yet.

(1h 5m 8s)

He will, but he’s not figured it out yet and it just doesn’t feel right.

(1h 5m 11s)

I think that’s what he’s talking about.

(1h 5m 13s) Kevin:

Well, we’ll see.

(1h 5m 14s)

like you said, that we don’t know, right?

(1h 5m 17s)

We’re both spec like speculating and coming at it from different angles.

(1h 5m 20s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 5m 20s) Kevin:

You might be right.

(1h 5m 21s)

That might be the case.

(1h 5m 22s)

Maybe it doesn’t, it actually just doesn’t feel right.

(1h 5m 25s)

Like, I’m over here just sitting thinking.

(1h 5m 27s)

It probably does, and he’s just obsessed about making it or what’s right for him, like, is more than good enough for other people.

(1h 5m 31s) Al:

Possibly.

(1h 5m 35s) Kevin:

Like, I think his standard is too high, but that’s just, again, just kind of spitballing, looking from what I see here, but we don’t know.

(1h 5m 43s)

Anyways, this game.

(1h 5m 43s) Al:

Yeah, I mean, I’m not even I’m not even going to judge him for having 2 high standards because, like, I like the high standards, right?

(1h 5m 50s) Kevin:

Yeah, that’s the thing, right?

(1h 5m 50s) Al:

Like, I like what he releases.

(1h 5m 52s)

So, there are plenty of games.

(1h 5m 56s)

I’m fine.

(1h 5m 58s)

I can keep waiting.

(1h 5m 59s) Kevin:

Whose fantasy draft was that are that on?

(1h 6m 2s)

I can’t remember.

(1h 6m 2s) Al:

It was Cody’s.

(1h 6m 3s) Kevin:

Is it yours or Cody’s?

(1h 6m 3s) Al:

It was Cody’s. Because they’re insane because for some reason they thought it was coming out this year.

(1h 6m 4s) Kevin:

Well, then he can keep delaying it.

(1h 6m 8s)

They can, and you know what?

(1h 6m 9s) Al:

I don’t know why they thought that.

(1h 6m 11s) Kevin:

It’s okay.

(1h 6m 12s)

Delayed another year.

(1h 6m 18s) Al:

Speaking of the draft, I did see that on the Star Sand Island Discord that they are expecting one.0 to come out round about August.

(1h 6m 25s)

So I’m getting those points.

(1h 6m 26s)

I’m getting those points.

(1h 6m 27s) Kevin:

Yeah.

New Games

(1h 6m 28s) Al:

All right.

(1h 6m 30s) Kevin:

Oh.

(1h 6m 30s) Al:

Final piece of news is a new game, and this is Petunia’s Purgatory.

Petunia’s Purgatory

(1h 6m 35s) Al:

This is a Rusty’s like, just to get all your expectations in check there.

(1h 6m 40s)

Petunia’s purgatory is a creepy, cute idol farming game that lives at the bottom of your screen, grow cursed crops, feed the elder god and keep Petunia Seine while her hallucinations invade your desktop.

(1h 6m 54s)

This feels too much for a rusty.

(1h 6m 59s) Kevin:

See, this is this is the paradox for me of rusty likes. Like, with any game, the more stuff you add, the quote unquote better, it is or click be, right?

(1h 7m 8s)

Um, You’re trying to add more content, you’re trying to make it different, doing stuff, um, But in a rusty like where it’s taken over, you know, it’s over stuff, like it’s, it becomes a problem when it’s too much, and it’s just fracking, and that I just want the full screen of the game, that’s the whole thing.

(1h 7m 8s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 7m 22s)

Yeah.

(1h 7m 26s) Kevin:

I mean, even looking at the screen.

(1h 7m 28s)

It’s like talking about at least a 3rd of the computer screen.

(1h 7m 31s)

Um,

(1h 7m 33s) Al:

Well, and then and then things pop up.

(1h 7m 34s)

This is this is why I think it’s too much.

(1h 7m 36s)

is things pop up then above the game itself.

(1h 7m 40s)

Like it’ll just be like, oh, this is a thing that’s happening now and you’re like, ah, meant to be working.

(1h 7m 41s) Kevin:

The the track…

(1h 7m 45s)

The crack in the sky, no good, no good.

(1h 7m 48s) Al:

Yeah, yeah, I’m not a fan of that.

(1h 7m 50s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 7m 50s) Al:

Um.

(1h 7m 51s) Kevin:

And the worst part is, like, it looks great, and I say worse because, I mean, you know, the stuff they’re doing is fun, and they’re going for the, uh, the Claudage Gore, the creepy cute stuff.

(1h 8m 2s)

Um, but I just wanted to be a standalone game.

(1h 8m 4s)

That’s all I want.

(1h 8m 5s)

Like, let me focus on that.

(1h 8m 5s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 8m 7s) Kevin:

Like…

(1h 8m 8s) Al:

Yeah, like, well, that’s the thing.

(1h 8m 9s)

If this was just a game, I’m I’m in on this, but I don’t want this as a rusty light.

(1h 8m 12s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 8m 15s)

No, because then what’s what’s the point?

(1h 8m 17s)

I don’t want this over anything.

(1h 8m 18s)

I just want this, right?

(1h 8m 19s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 8m 19s) Kevin:

You you get…

(1h 8m 20s) Al:

I think the beauty of Rusty, Rusty’s retirement was how simple it was.

(1h 8m 24s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah.

(1h 8m 25s)

All right.

(1h 8m 26s)

Well, Petunia’s purgatory.

(1h 8m 29s)

You’re doing too good of a job for your lane.

(1h 8m 32s)

This is a standalone, like, separate window and will be good.

(1h 8m 38s)

I love the art.

(1h 8m 39s) Al:

That is releasing on the 16th of July.

(1h 8m 42s) Kevin:

That’s soon, too late for them to do the standalone window.

(1h 8m 44s) Al:

I mean, it’s basically out.

(1h 8m 45s) Kevin:

Yeah, basically.

(1h 8m 46s) Al:

All right, let’s talk about discounty.

Discounty

(1h 8m 49s) Al:

This is our 2nd harvest of discounty.

(1h 8m 52s)

Kevin.

(1h 8m 52s) Kevin:

Yes. I mean, it’s weird because it’s, it’s not a replay.

(1h 8m 55s) Al:

It’s all on you.

(1h 8m 57s) Kevin:

It’s, it’s, I’m finishing, right?

(1h 8m 59s) Al:

Yeah, I guess that’s different because like normally when we have a 2nd harvest is like other people playing it and they want to talk about it.

(1h 8m 59s) Kevin:

Like, um,

(1h 9m 4s)

Yeah.

(1h 9m 4s) Al:

But like, though, I mean, you know, maybe, maybe consider this more like the Stardew update episodes or something like that if you want.

(1h 9m 4s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 9m 5s)

It’s fine, whatever.

(1h 9m 10s)

Yeah, yeah.

(1h 9m 11s)

Whatever you want to call it, whatever.

(1h 9m 12s) Al:

It doesn’t have to be an official 2nd harvest, but it is.

(1h 9m 15s)

Go, talk about the game.

(1h 9m 16s) Kevin:

I’m talking about discounty.

(1h 9m 17s)

Okay, so, um, before I actually, so, let’s rewind a bit.

(1h 9m 23s)

Um, for recap for people.

(1h 9m 25s)

This county, you, you’re a person who moves into a town with your aunt, and she forced you to work in her little discount convenience store called this county.

(1h 9m 35s)

Um, and yeah, and so you just start running it for her basically.

(1h 9m 40s)

Um, so last time I talked about, I didn’t even reach the ending, as I recall, I was right before the ending.

(1h 9m 46s)

So let’s talk about that.

(1h 9m 47s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 9m 47s) Kevin:

Um, as you play the game, you’re expanding the town.

(1h 9m 51s)

Um, or not the town exceeding, the story.

(1h 9m 54s)

expanding the store, you’re meeting the residents of the town, and you’re interacting with them.

(1h 9m 58s)

It’s a very small town.

(1h 9m 59s)

Um, Blumpest, I think it is.

(1h 10m 2s)

Anyways, uh, so, uh, part of a big part of the plot line is there’s a lot of environmental issues popping up in the town.

(1h 10m 11s)

Uh, there’s this weird pink fog, the, uh, water nearby is turning green.

(1h 10m 16s)

Uh,

(1h 10m 16s) Al:

We’re going to go full spoilers, by the way, listeners.

(1h 10m 17s) Kevin:

Oh yeah, yeah.

(1h 10m 18s) Al:

So if you want to play this game and don’t want to get spoilers there, just drop off now.

(1h 10m 22s)

They’re going to be everywhere.

(1h 10m 24s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 10m 24s)

Um, and and so there’s another handful of different environmental problems and part of the the plot is figuring out what on earth is going on, right?

(1h 10m 34s)

Um, and uh, and and really the plot kind of follows uh, a lot of the other businesses in town, like you’re interacting with them.

(1h 10m 42s)

You’re doing trade deals with them.

(1h 10m 43s)

Um, you, you have, uh, you know, there’s a farmer, a fisherman, and a woman to his, uh, running like a, uh, fish stick factory, basically, she processes the fish. Um, no, a handful of business people.

(1h 10m 57s)

And then there’s also a woman by the name of Tammy who runs a plastic factory out in the woods.

(1h 11m 2s)

Um, uh, anyways, so you go through all that, you’re expanding the town, you, you start butting heads with different people because some people want to keep the town small and keep its identity.

(1h 11m 14s)

Um, and then like I said, there’s all these environmental issues going on.

(1h 11m 18s)

Um, so as you progress, eventually you figure out, um, uh, I actually like the ending in one way because it, uh, it does a little subversion of expectations.

(1h 11m 29s)

The the plastic factory owner.

(1h 11m 31s)

Her name is Tammy.

(1h 11m 32s)

She’s a very outspoken, aggressive, temperamental woman.

(1h 11m 36s)

She’s very like business first, just money hungry.

(1h 11m 40s)

Um, so of course, a lot of uh, expectations or people suspecting it’s her fault.

(1h 11m 47s)

All this environmental issues are going on, right?

(1h 11m 49s)

And then it turns out that’s not the case.

(1h 11m 51s)

It’s actually the other small business owners, um, who are having the bad.

(1h 11m 55s)

Uh, business practises and polluting and stuff like that.

(1h 11m 59s)

Um,

(1h 12m)

So the game kind of ends in this critical moment where there’s almost a trial or whatnot, where you have to accuse someone of, uh, who’s responsible for all these, uh, environmental issues.

(1h 12m 12s)

Um, and so you either accuse Tammy, the the, the businesswoman or the other small business owners.

(1h 12m 20s)

Um, and, and like I, I think it’s kind of fun because it’s a little inversion where the, the JoJo Mart owner is actually the innocent person this time.

(1h 12m 29s)

Meanwhile, Pierre is actually causing the uh, environmental issues.

(1h 12m 33s)

Um, and so, you know.

(1h 12m 35s) Al:

I mean, I would see Pierre doing that, to be honest, you know.

(1h 12m 37s) Kevin:

Yeah, I could do.

(1h 12m 39s)

Um, but you know what I mean.

(1h 12m 41s)

Um, uh, anyway, so that, that’s, that’s kind of the, the, uh, climax of the story and the game pretty much ends right there where you, there’s a little fallout after.

(1h 12m 52s)

Um, where you, you know, you basically to have some damage or you damage the relationship with whoever you accuse.

(1h 13m 1s)

The truth eventually does come out either way.

(1h 13m 3s)

Um, regardless of your choice.

(1h 13m 6s)

Um, and and the game kind of ends there.

(1h 13m 9s)

And that was kind of the one of the disappointments of the game, the ending kind of just felt very short because you just, okay, everything’s out and that’s it.

(1h 13m 18s)

We just keep going.

(1h 13m 18s)

Um, But yeah, a little bit anticlimatic, right?

(1h 13m 19s) Al:

almost anticlimactic.

(1h 13m 23s)

Hey, you solved the game.

(1h 13m 24s)

Congratulations.

(1h 13m 26s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 13m 26s) Al:

It’d be like, it’d be like if we were talking about knives out earlier, but like if knives out ended with, it was Steve done.

(1h 13m 26s) Kevin:

Um.

(1h 13m 34s)

Yep.

(1h 13m 35s) Al:

Like, no, we want the explanation.

(1h 13m 38s)

Tell us how.

(1h 13m 39s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 13m 39s)

Yeah, exactly, right?

(1h 13m 42s)

Um, so yeah, so that’s the biggest problem with this county, that it just kind of ends on like, okay, that’s it.

(1h 13m 47s)

Mystery style.

(1h 13m 48s)

Everyone literally just go home.

(1h 13m 49s)

Um, they added a few updates at the little minor, um, plot line that also was going on.

(1h 13m 56s)

Oh, oh, you know, let me say that.

(1h 13m 58s)

One of the other things is that there was a lot of what feels like wasted potential because the map in discount is fairly sizeable, but a lot of it didn’t get used.

(1h 14m 7s)

There’s a lot of rundown buildings.

(1h 14m 10s)

There’s a whole forest and you don’t do much with any of them.

(1h 14m 14s)

Like, you’d expect you’re gonna, you know, restore the town and build it up.

(1h 14m 18s)

Um, that’s kind of what you’d expect from most cottage core games.

(1h 14m 21s)

But you don’t.

(1h 14m 22s)

They’re just kind of there, just, just, and they’re discussed in the game, several of these buildings and locations, but you don’t do anything with them.

(1h 14m 30s)

It just felt like cut content or something.

(1h 14m 31s)

Um, so yeah, kind of a weird feeling where the game just kind of ends right there and still so much that looks like was going to be in the game.

(1h 14m 41s)

And well, that’s fast forward to now.

(1h 14m 44s)

Chapter 4, people are profit, finally fills in all of these gaps.

(1h 14m 49s)

Um, so, what’s weird about chapter 4, it makes sense, in my opinion, only if you played the the ending a while ago because it literally starts with everyone just having a complete change of heart.

(1h 15m 5s)

Um, your aunt who is so keen on expanding the business, decides she’s going to retire and hands over the store to you.

(1h 15m 13s)

So now you’re in control of the store.

(1h 15m 15s)

Um, the business owners who are causing the, the environmental issues have decided to, uh, ask for forgiveness and now have banded to create together to create kind of like a, uh, almost like a co-op sort of thing where they’re going to, uh, work on the town.

(1h 15m 35s)

Um, uh, and then Tammy is now approaching you about expanding your business and, you know, being very uh, profit 1st sort of situation.

(1h 15m 44s)

So, uh, that’s kind of the premise for chapter 4.

(1h 15m 47s)

As the name says, people are profit.

(1h 15m 50s)

It’s a very, it’s very interesting because in the base game.

(1h 15m 54s)

There was little to no actual choices.

(1h 15m 57s)

Like, there were a few dialogue options, but no meaningful choices, except for the end kind of end, even that, no matter what you picked, the, like I said, someone would pop out and actually say the real cause of the issues.

(1h 16m 10s)

Um, but, uh, it’s, so it’s kind of weird that they now have a choice system where they very clearly mark, hey, do you want to go down the route of developing the town, you know, and supporting the small businesses, or do you want to focus on your own store and and building up profits?

(1h 16m 28s)

Um.

(1h 16m 29s)

So yeah, and it’s kind of disappointing too, because I thought the inversion of, you know, making, again, Miami, the Jojo Mart owner into actually, uh, not a nice character, but you know, she didn’t do anything wrong.

(1h 16m 43s)

Um, and now she is just turning into this.

(1h 16m 46s) Al:

Well, not that.

(1h 16m 47s)

Not that bit.

(1h 16m 47s) Kevin:

Well, no, yeah, not that big, right?

(1h 16m 50s)

for the, Big bro, for the problem, for the problem of the game, let’s say that, but sure.

(1h 16m 55s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 16m 55s) Kevin:

But now she’s just going all in on being profit first.

(1h 16m 59s)

So, um, or you can do the other route where you support the business owners. And obviously, and that’s what I’m picking because, yeah, I don’t know, just to try it, but it’s clearly, it said that there’s, oh, I guess I should say, I’ve not hit credits and I’ll explain why in a bit, but, um, uh, there are 3 endings, basically, from this, uh, this update.

(1h 17m 8s) Al:

Mhm.

(1h 17m 19s) Kevin:

Um, and it’s very clear from what I’ve seen and what I’ve read.

(1h 17m 23s)

Uh, one of them is going to be the Tammy route, one is the the business owner route, and one is uh, kind of a mixed uh, neutral ending.

(1h 17m 31s)

Um, and so, yeah, it’s, I don’t know, like, I maybe have to see what the endings look like, but it is kind of, just weird how they shifted from going from the kind of inverted story ending to just what you’d expect.

(1h 17m 47s)

Um,

(1h 17m 50s)

But, uh, yeah, I, I, I can’t fully comment on it because I don’t hit it, but, uh, feels kind of weird just to set it up like that.

(1h 17m 56s)

Um, anyways, so that, that’s, uh, that’s kind of the general premise of the, of the, uh, the chapter 4.

(1h 18m 5s)

But there’s a lot of other stuff going on mechanically and whatnot.

(1h 18m 8s)

They’re adding a lot more items.

(1h 18m 9s)

You get the self-checkout.

(1h 18m 12s)

You can start doing online orders.

(1h 18m 13s)

Um, but all of that.

(1h 18m 16s)

Oh, and you can start fixing, actually fixing up the town finally, you can start repairing older buildings and certain locations out in the woods, start having purpose and whatnot.

(1h 18m 27s)

Um, uh, there’s also a trio of new characters who joined the town.

(1h 18m 33s)

Um, they are involved with the plotline, as you help them either open their business, new businesses in town, or you kind of shut them down so you can keep your monopoly going.

(1h 18m 43s)

Um, But here’s the thing with all these new areas you can expand and rebuild and renovate.

(1h 18m 51s)

Uh, and this is in my opinion, the weakest part, not just in this update, but probably the whole game.

(1h 18m 57s)

There is a new resource system.

(1h 18m 59s)

Um, uh, before the gameplay.

(1h 19m 2s)

was pretty much focussed inside running the store.

(1h 19m 4s)

Um setting up your shop and checking out customers, all that stuff.

(1h 19m 8s)

And that’s still, you know, one of the primary elements of the game play.

(1h 19m 12s)

Um, but now these, uh, other areas you need to find resources, wood, metal, and electronics.

(1h 19m 20s)

And here’s the problem that sucks.

(1h 19m 22s)

It’s just random spawns every day.

(1h 19m 25s)

Here’s some pieces of wood that’s spun in this area, go to near the mine to find some metal, electronic spawn over here.

(1h 19m 33s)

Um, and the problem is it’s very limited in what’s spawning.

(1h 19m 38s)

Um, and so this is what big part of why I haven’t hit credits because it takes a while to unlock the next renovation or the next uh, upgrade to a shop or or or help out one of these store owners. Um, uh, for instance, I only have one of the new store owners up and running because I just don’t have the resources.

(1h 19m 59s)

Um, for reference, uh, there’s one project that requires 260 metal.

(1h 20m 6s)

I think it was something like that.

(1h 20m 8s)

I currently have like 60 metal.

(1h 20m 11s)

And I just can only get 10 to 20 a day from the Rams spons.

(1h 20m 16s) Al:

Wow.

(1h 20m 16s) Kevin:

Um, you can buy some resources, but it’s pretty expensive.

(1h 20m 23s)

There’s a guy who’ll sell you 50 pieces of metal for 5000 coins, which for reference, uh, one of the last missions in the base game requires you to save up 9000 coins.

(1h 20m 34s)

Um,

(1h 20m 35s)

Yeah, so there’s no easy way of getting these resources.

(1h 20m 36s) Al:

Okay.

(1h 20m 40s) Kevin:

So it’s it’s really kind of a time grind.

(1h 20m 43s)

Just, you know, go through the day.

(1h 20m 46s)

run your shop and you get money that way, of course, and you, and I’ll go into detail in the upgrades there, but, um, you get, you know, kind of keep your shop afloat, run getting profits and whatnot.

(1h 20m 56s)

And then in the periods after.

(1h 20m 58s)

Well, yeah, okay, go out to the woods, gather your resources for the day.

(1h 21m 2s)

And uh, hope you, you know, get some decent spawns or whatever.

(1h 21m 6s)

But, It’s it’s kind of a waiting game.

(1h 21m 9s)

I haven’t been able to find a fast trek to, you know, start pumping out more metal or electronics or whatever.

(1h 21m 16s)

Um, and now, again, I, I’ll be asterisk.

(1h 21m 20s)

I haven’t finished it, so maybe there’s some stuff that unlocks later that helps, but I haven’t seen anything online.

(1h 21m 25s)

I haven’t found anything in game.

(1h 21m 27s)

Um, and it’s kind of a bummer that, uh, that’s why I haven’t even been able to fully talk about the game because I just hit this kind of slog.

(1h 21m 37s)

Um, I still enjoy the game overall, but um, it, it just pacing is really weird because base discounting, I think the pacing was pretty good.

(1h 21m 46s)

Um, story wise and gameplay wise, like it all went hand in hand and it was and felt very intuitive and it didn’t feel like I got stuck at any point really.

(1h 21m 55s)

Um, but, uh, but yeah, so that’s kind of a shame.

(1h 22m)

Also, because they’re adding all this new stuff, you start to see a few weaknesses in the base game, like a lot of the tutorials.

(1h 22m 7s)

You can’t access them.

(1h 22m 9s)

And I forgot some mechanics or I missed something on these new resources.

(1h 22m 12s)

And then, oh, okay, what am I supposed to do?

(1h 22m 15s)

I have to go online and figure out what I’m missing.

(1h 22m 18s)

Um, so that’s a shame.

(1h 22m 21s)

Um, but, uh, yeah, so that, that, and uh, I mentioned this last week, but going back into the game, you’re just kind of thrown into the deep end, because you know, you’re a late game, and you have to remember how to run your store and do everything.

(1h 22m 34s)

Um, But again, there’s no pictorials or library that you can access to all the mechanics, how to do it.

(1h 22m 41s)

Um, so that’s kind of a shame.

(1h 22m 43s)

They probably should have introduced something like that for this update.

(1h 22m 46s)

Um, but, uh, but yeah, um, I guess I’m going to talk about the store a little bit.

(1h 22m 52s)

So yeah, the store runs the same.

(1h 22m 53s)

Where you set up all your inventory out, all your shelves, and then people come in, they pick up their items, and then you check them out at the, I think I register.

(1h 23m 3s)

Um, And I talked about that, how there are upgrades to help with that.

(1h 23m 7s)

There’s a scanner that makes it way better and they kind of did an accessibility thing where you can just have it on all the time.

(1h 23m 13s)

Um, and that’s great.

(1h 23m 15s)

Um, and so they’ve, uh, yeah, they tried, they tried spicing up the, the, the actual shop gameplay a little bit with a few different things.

(1h 23m 24s)

Uh, 1st of all, obviously a whole bunch of new inventory added, um, that you can start talking and selling more, um, which is, you know, in my opinion, that’s what I like, the, the, kind of the puzzle of how am I going to set it all up?

(1h 23m 37s)

Um, how much of each do I carry? Because, you know, the more inventory you carry, that’s more you have to manage.

(1h 23m 43s)

Um, but then they do a few different things too.

(1h 23m 46s)

Like, for instance, now they are random events in the in the shopping gameplay.

(1h 23m 51s)

For instance, it might be a rainy day.

(1h 23m 54s)

Uh, so customers who come in, we’ll start tracking more mud, which you have to clean up um, using uh, like a little sponge?

(1h 24m 1s)

I was already an existing mechanic, but it’s just happening more frequently and it interferes with the, uh, the customers walking around if you don’t do it.

(1h 24m 9s)

Um, there might be days where there is a hot item where they’re going to start trying to buy a lot more of a certain item.

(1h 24m 15s)

Uh, there are days where the scanner will break down.

(1h 24m 19s)

Um, when the, the update 1st dropped.

(1h 24m 23s)

That was for the whole day, which is kind of wild, they take away your automation, but I can see the appeal, but they felt it was little heavy handed, so, uh, they’ve already done one uh, patch since then and they, they knocked it down to, I think, it’s just like a, only a few orders where it’s down.

(1h 24m 37s)

Um,

(1h 24m 39s)

But anyways, just random little uh, chaotic elements like that to make the, a little less monotonous, and I appreciate it.

(1h 24m 47s)

Um, uh, they also did online orders, which I have not unlocked yet.

(1h 24m 52s)

that’s a feature I’ve been working to try to get to.

(1h 24m 54s)

But that’s, uh, that will be interesting to see because I think that will actually add to the to the gate shopping gameplay.

(1h 25m 1s)

Um, and then there’s, uh, rejoice out.

(1h 25m 6s)

the self-checkout system so you don’t even have to scan it for people.

(1h 25m 9s)

Um.

(1h 25m 10s) Al:

Yes, so tell me, tell me, is that something you’re having to unlock?

(1h 25m 14s)

That was what we expect.

(1h 25m 14s) Kevin:

It is something you have to.

(1h 25m 15s)

It is something you have to unlock that is correct.

(1h 25m 18s)

Um, and I haven’t done it myself.

(1h 25m 22s)

I haven’t found it, to be honest.

(1h 25m 23s)

Um, or if I did, I can’t remember, but, uh, it’s, um, uh, yeah, I, I’m sure it is very helpful to have that because the, kind of the checkout thing is almost the primary gameplay really during the shopping hours.

(1h 25m 24s) Al:

Shocking.

(1h 25m 37s) Kevin:

Um.

(1h 25m 39s) Al:

Yeah, I get that.

(1h 25m 41s)

But this is but this is the thing, right?

(1h 25m 41s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 25m 42s)

Yeah, yeah.

(1h 25m 43s) Al:

Like that’s, that’s always what put, what has put me off from it, you know?

(1h 25m 48s) Kevin:

Yeah, no, I don’t blame you.

(1h 25m 49s)

Um, it’s, you’ll hate it or you love it.

(1h 25m 52s)

That’s what it is.

(1h 25m 53s)

Um, uh, but yeah, so that’s uh, excuse me.

(1h 25m 58s)

Um, uh, yeah, that’s uh, so that’s that’s kind of the updates to the shopping experience.

(1h 26m 3s)

I, again, with all these resources being added and a lot of progression kind of being slowed down, like I haven’t unlocked a lot of it.

(1h 26m 11s)

Also just, you know, as I said, I’ve been working like crazy.

(1h 26m 13s)

I haven’t had time to really dig into a lot of these or sync.

(1h 26m 17s)

I have some, sometime.

(1h 26m 19s)

I’ve done at least, I don’t know, 10 hours or so since, uh, since I picked up the update.

(1h 26m 24s)

Um, so I’ve put a good amount of time.

(1h 26m 25s) Al:

So 10 hours or so and you were, you were pretty much finished the game before the update came out.

(1h 26m 30s)

And you are a fraction of the way towards being able to get the final stuff.

(1h 26m 31s) Kevin:

That is correct, yes.

(1h 26m 32s)

And the original.

(1h 26m 37s)

Yeah, that’s correct.

(1h 26m 37s) Al:

That’s that that feels very imbalanced.

(1h 26m 38s) Kevin:

Uh.

(1h 26m 40s)

Let me see, I could be.

(1h 26m 42s)

It does.

(1h 26m 43s)

Let me, let me, you know what?

(1h 26m 44s)

Let me check the actual time because I could be dead wrong.

(1h 26m 48s)

I mean, yeah, okay.

(1h 26m 50s)

No, okay, 10 hours is a bit much, but at least from what I recall, when I finished the game, I was about 15, 16 hours.

(1h 26m 57s)

Right now, playtime says about 22 hours.

(1h 27m)

So five, 6 hours.

(1h 27m 1s)

Um.

(1h 27m 3s) Al:

Yeah, I mean, when you if you think about that compared to like your original playtime, like that doesn’t that feels like a lot.

(1h 27m 8s) Kevin:

It is.

(1h 27m 9s)

Yeah, that’s a that’s a thing, right?

(1h 27m 11s)

When I played the game originally, the base game, like I was, when I saw, you know, sat down for a good hour or a good session, I would make progress.

(1h 27m 18s)

Like you could very much feel it.

(1h 27m 20s)

Um, but you just really slugging slowing down.

(1h 27m 24s)

Um, and I don’t know if that was kind of there, like how they want kind of time or or I’m just missing something.

(1h 27m 31s)

I don’t know, but it’s not as smooth as the 1st uh, as the base game, which is kind of a shame.

(1h 27m 40s)

Um, yeah, it’s definitely the biggest problem of like the game so far, um, or the, this update specifically.

(1h 27m 47s)

Like, the base game.

(1h 27m 49s)

I think is still just fine.

(1h 27m 50s)

And I still recommend this game to anyone.

(1h 27m 52s)

It’s, uh, fairly affordable.

(1h 27m 55s)

Um, um, and and it’s it’s a solid game.

(1h 27m 58s)

Um, and they, they, like I said, they already put out a patch to smooth out some of, of the, uh, issues that were popping up and I’m sure they will continue to improve.

(1h 28m 9s)

Um, But uh, we’ll uh, I’ll have to see.

(1h 28m 14s)

I am still intending to take credits.

(1h 28m 16s)

Um, uh, but, uh, yeah, I’m curious to see if things pick up.

(1h 28m 21s)

Well, for instance, I’ve just restored the mine.

(1h 28m 24s)

So I don’t know if that will spawn out more metal or not.

(1h 28m 26s)

Um, but yeah, we’ll see.

(1h 28m 30s)

Um, I uh, sorry, give me 12nd.

(1h 28m 33s)

I’m just reading over some of the patch notes here.

(1h 28m 35s)

Um, they, uh, yeah, I mean, they’ve already reduced some of the costs from uh, fixing up some stuff and whatnot.

(1h 28m 44s)

And and just some quality of life stuff. And I think they could use another round of that, but, uh, I know, I’m still enjoying the game overall.

(1h 28m 49s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 28m 52s) Kevin:

I won’t like, but it’s just interesting that from a game that was pretty solid, start with, they did a big update, introduced frustrations, like more, uh, as much game, maybe not as much as the gameplay updates, but, um, when I had very few complaints at the base one now, now there’s some gameplay, frustration is very kind of strange.

(1h 29m 14s)

Um, but yeah, that’s um, that’s kind of where I am so far.

(1h 29m 20s)

Like I said, I might be speaking prematurely.

(1h 29m 22s)

Um, but time wise, again, 5 hours in when the original run took me 15 hours.

(1h 29m 29s)

I really think I should be farther ahead, no?

(1h 29m 32s)

But, uh,

(1h 29m 34s) Al:

Yeah, I think so.

(1h 29m 36s)

But.

(1h 29m 37s)

Is that is that causing you less enjoyment of the game, do you think?

(1h 29m 43s) Kevin:

It’s not, yeah.

(1h 29m 45s)

I’m not going to say less enjoyment.

(1h 29m 48s)

Like it certainly didn’t take away from the base game experience.

(1h 29m 51s)

Um, I, if anything, I just, the frustration is I can’t get to experience the game because I know what’s there is good.

(1h 29m 59s)

Like, I haven’t been able to enjoy these new uh, characters as much.

(1h 30m 4s)

Like, I help one lady.

(1h 30m 5s)

She now runs a health shop, you know, selling kale and whatnot.

(1h 30m 9s)

And and introduces more inventory for you.

(1h 30m 12s)

Um, and I want to experience that with the other characters.

(1h 30m 16s)

One of them is actually Tammy’s estranged brother who just moved into town which will be fun to work with.

(1h 30m 20s)

Um, so yeah, I just, I want to get through the game faster, like that’s my biggest complaint, I guess.

(1h 30m 21s) Al:

Huh.

(1h 30m 27s) Kevin:

Um, Yeah, so I don’t know.

(1h 30m 27s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 30m 30s) Kevin:

We’ll see.

(1h 30m 31s)

I’m probably gonna have to do at least some sort of section later for a follow up when I finally hit credits.

(1h 30m 36s)

Um, on this update, but, uh, it’s it’s still fun.

(1h 30m 41s)

It’s still enjoyable.

(1h 30m 42s)

Um, I’m trying to think what else I want to add.

(1h 30m 45s)

Um, Like, I know it didn’t go super deep in the store or whatnot, but it’s, it’s still, it’s, it’s nothing super crazy aside from, uh, did I mention the, the, the protest last time? Did I talk about that with you?

(1h 31m 1s)

The protest?

(1h 31m 1s) Al:

I don’t remember.

(1h 31m 3s) Kevin:

Okay, well, um, the story has a few fun beats.

(1h 31m 6s)

Like I said, there’s this big sort of, one of the running themes is keeping the town small versus expanding the, you know, your business.

(1h 31m 15s)

Um, at one point, there’s a, there’s a basically a historic landmark uh, uh, like the town’s found or their house is right next to your store.

(1h 31m 23s)

Um, and at one point in the store, you’re the aunt, uh, who owns the store again.

(1h 31m 28s)

She, the one who makes these decisions.

(1h 31m 30s)

She wants to basically buy that property, tear it down and expand the story even further.

(1h 31m 36s)

And so that causes some big unrest in your town in the town and there’s some protests outside your store.

(1h 31m 43s)

Um, which was kind of fun to see.

(1h 31m 47s)

Um, again, in many ways, you kind of are running the Jojo Mart, and so you have a chance to make it a little more ethical than that, but, um, uh, so that is that is kind of fun to see.

(1h 31m 58s)

Um, to see, again, some opposition and how you deal with it.

(1h 32m 2s)

Um, and and hopefully we’ll see more of that from this expansion later on.

(1h 32m 7s)

Um, but I’m just, I’m just not there because I, I gotta, I don’t have enough metal just legitimately.

(1h 32m 15s)

I don’t have enough metal pieces, um, to restore everything, so we’ll see.

(1h 32m 21s)

Um, I don’t know if I, yeah, I feel like I’m missing something.

(1h 32m 22s) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 32m 25s) Kevin:

I don’t know what it is, and I think that’s actually a big problem from the update.

(1h 32m 29s)

They added so much stuff, but they don’t guide you to it.

(1h 32m 32s)

Um, like, for instance, to figure out where to go to pick up the different resources.

(1h 32m 39s)

They kind of just have to wander around and happen to run into certain areas.

(1h 32m 44s)

There’s no indicator to say, hey, go here and you’ll learn more about how to find X resource.

(1h 32m 51s)

Um,

(1h 32m 52s)

So I think that’s another big issue that they need to fix in this chapter 4 stuff.

(1h 32m 57s)

But uh, but we’ll see.

(1h 32m 59s)

they’re working on it.

(1h 33m)

I still have faith in it.

(1h 33m 2s)

Um, yeah, and I’m still happy overall.

(1h 33m 5s)

I still recommend it.

(1h 33m 6s)

Um,

(1h 33m 7s) Al:

Well, that’s, I mean, that’s that’s the main thing, right?

(1h 33m 9s)

as long as you’re still enjoying it, even if, you know, some games have grinding for things, right?

(1h 33m 9s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 33m 14s) Al:

Like that’s just, that’s just how games have.

(1h 33m 16s)

And yeah, I do think the most games would be better without it, but sometimes they have it and that’s life.

(1h 33m 20s)

And as long as the core gameplay you’re still enjoying, you know, like if we if we think about like Pokemon, the grinding they’ve gotten rid of has been the not fun grinding, right?

(1h 33m 24s) Kevin:

Yep.

(1h 33m 29s) Al:

They’re like just going through the grass and and tearing down pidgy, right?

(1h 33m 34s)

Like that was never fun, in my opinion.

(1h 33m 36s)

And so they added stuff that would mean you didn’t have to do that.

(1h 33m 38s)

But if you’re enjoying the core gameplay, then what’s the problem with some grinding?

(1h 33m 44s) Kevin:

Yeah, yeah, no, you’re right.

(1h 33m 45s)

You’re right about that.

(1h 33m 46s)

Um, I, I guess like I, yeah, you’re right about that.

(1h 33m 50s)

It’s a, it’s not even the grinding, just, it’s all time based.

(1h 33m 54s)

I guess that’s, it’s, well, I guess you could argue all grinding is time based really, but, um, It’s very passive.

(1h 34m)

Let’s say that, right?

(1h 34m) Al:

Yeah.

(1h 34m 1s) Kevin:

At least with Pokemon, the grinding is active to some degree, right?

(1h 34m 5s) Al:

No, I don’t think that’s a positive for on Pokemon’s end.

(1h 34m 8s)

I think that’s a negative.

(1h 34m 9s) Kevin:

Well, mm, to, man.

(1h 34m 10s) Al:

Like if I’m playing the game and having fun and passively grinding, that is much better than like, I am going out to go and grind a 100 Pokemon.

(1h 34m 18s)

That’s not fun.

(1h 34m 19s) Kevin:

Oh, wow.

(1h 34m 20s)

Uh, I, I guess the, uh, okay.

(1h 34m 24s)

Yeah, that’s that’s a whole episode topic, I guess.

(1h 34m 27s)

What kind of grinding is the best.

(1h 34m 30s)

Um, but, um, that’s roughly everything I’ve got to say on discounty right now.

(1h 34m 36s) Al:

Cool.

(1h 34m 36s) Kevin:

It’s a little premature.

(1h 34m 37s)

The idea was to take credits for this, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to, but, um,

(1h 34m 40s) Al:

We can’t keep delaying episodes forever Kevin.

(1h 34m 44s) Kevin:

Yeah, it’s fine.

(1h 34m 44s) Al:

I mean, I think I think if you end up having something interesting to say after you’ve finished it, nothing says we can’t do another episode.

(1h 34m 45s) Kevin:

It’s fine.

(1h 34m 45s)

Uh

(1h 34m 51s)

Yeah.

(1h 34m 52s)

Yeah, there you go.

(1h 34m 52s) Al:

We’ll just, we’ll see how you feel after you’ve finished it.

(1h 34m 56s)

You know, you’ve had interesting stuff to say.

(1h 34m 57s)

It’s it’s progressed more.

(1h 35m)

It’s added to the game.

(1h 35m 1s)

It’s still enjoyable.

(1h 35m 2s)

Those are all good things for people who’ve been interested in the game.

(1h 35m 5s) Kevin:

Yep.

(1h 35m 5s)

Yep. Yep.

(1h 35m 6s) Al:

Okay, last question, just before we finish.

(1h 35m 8s) Kevin:

Yep.

(1h 35m 8s) Al:

I know I just said I need to finish, but let me just do this. Last one question.

(1h 35m 12s)

Game didn’t feel complete after the previous one.

(1h 35m 12s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 35m 15s) Al:

I know you’re not going to be able to answer the question as to whether it feels complete now.

(1h 35m 16s) Kevin:

Yes.

(1h 35m 19s) Al:

I’m not going to ask you that.

(1h 35m 20s)

Do you feel like it should be an early access up to this point?

(1h 35m 21s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 35m 24s)

Mm, I have, nah, I’m gonna say nah, nah, because, because, like, what wasn’t there was mostly, let’s say flavour wise, like a story ending early, but the gameplay itself, the mechanics, everything was fine.

(1h 35m 26s) Al:

Sorry.

(1h 35m 27s)

Okay.

(1h 35m 40s) Kevin:

Everything was work great.

(1h 35m 41s)

Like, when I think early access, like I think of, what was the game we talked about, they didn’t have chickens and cows, like missing really fundamental gameplay stuff.

(1h 35m 50s) Al:

Yes, of course, of course.

(1h 35m 51s) Kevin:

Um,

(1h 35m 51s)

Yeah.

(1h 35m 52s) Al:

But so I guess the question is, the story felt unfinished, but did it feel complete?

(1h 35m 56s)

Like those are 2 different things, right?

(1h 35m 57s)

Like, did it feel like it was telling a story, but then you just wanted more?

(1h 35m 58s) Kevin:

Okay.

(1h 36m 2s) Al:

Does it feel more like a sequel than it does just finishing the existing story?

(1h 36m 2s) Kevin:

Yes.

(1h 36m 6s)

I probably have to bit a little further into fully answer that, but what was there when you hit the ending of chapter 3?

(1h 36m 14s)

It was maybe not the best ending.

(1h 36m 16s)

It wasn’t ending, though.

(1h 36m 18s)

Like the execution was a little sloppy, but I think they set that out to do.

(1h 36m 22s)

It just, yeah.

(1h 36m 23s)

Uh, I think it was completely, like, I, I don’t think, I hold it against them calling it one.

(1h 36m 29s)

when they dropped it.

(1h 36m 30s)

Like, it did feel like a complete game.

(1h 36m 31s) Al:

Okay.

(1h 36m 32s)

All right, fair enough.

(1h 36m 32s) Kevin:

I’ll say that.

(1h 36m 34s) Al:

All right, well, tune in next time.

(1h 36m 35s) Kevin:

Yeah.

(1h 36m 37s) Al:

Well, not next time, but tune in some other time when we’re gonna uh, maybe talk about the final, if there’s anything interesting talk about final, the final story.

Outro

(1h 36m 47s) Al:

Thank you, Kevin, for joining me to talk about Discounty again.

(1h 36m 51s) Kevin:

Thank you, Al for having me on.

(1h 36m 51s) Al:

Is there anything you would like to share with the audience?

(1h 36m 56s) Kevin:

Uh, not much.

(1h 36m 57s)

I’m Cooper Pres, whatever, if you care, but I’m more interested in telling them about the show, Al. Tell them more to find.

Tell me why you disagree with me because I bet a lot…

(1h 37m 24s) Kevin:

Oh, I want to hear that.

(1h 37m 26s)

Who would disagree with that?

(1h 37m 45s) Kevin:

Oh yeah.

(1h 37m 46s)

That’s fine.

(1h 37m 50s)

I like Nintendo.
