Intro
(30s) Al:
Hello, farmers, and welcome to another episode of The Harvest Season.
(35s)
My name is Sleepy Al.
(38s) Kevin:
My name is somewhat sleepy, Kevin.
(41s)
I have narcolepsy.
(42s)
Hello.
(42s) Al:
And we’re here today to talk about so many cottage score games, just like, I think possibly every single cottage core game.
(49s) Kevin:
Too many?
(50s)
Okay.
(50s) Al:
Except, except where’s my Story of Seasons game?
(51s) Kevin:
We’re here to talk about.
(55s) Al:
Give me my story of seasons game.
(59s) Kevin:
Yeah, actually, right?
(1m)
Except the ones we wanted.
(1m 2s)
Where’s uh, where’s my uh, wild, whatever, the sequel?
(1m 3s) Al:
Well, that’s not true.
(1m 5s)
There’s not true.
(1m 7s)
That’s not true.
(1m 7s)
You’ve got something, but we’ll get there when we get there.
(1m 11s) Kevin:
Okay, okay.
(1m 12s)
I do?
(1m 13s) Al:
We do, yeah, well…
(1m 13s) Kevin:
Wait, oh, I know what you’re talking about.
(1m 15s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, we’ll get, we’ll get, we’ll,
(1m 15s) Kevin:
The game, I may not even play, but I care about it.
(1m 18s) Al:
Not the point, not the point.
(1m 20s) Kevin:
Not the point, not the point.
(1m 22s)
Ah, we’re.
(1m 23s) Al:
All right.
(1m 23s)
Uh, yeah, this, the, we’re recording a day after the wholesome direct, so there is just so much news.
(1m 30s)
So, so much news.
(1m 32s) Kevin:
Yep, weird.
(1m 32s) Al:
So we’re going to talk all about that.
(1m 34s)
There’s a bunch of news before that as well, because it’s just been a busy time.
(1m 37s)
So we’ll we’ll talk through all that.
(1m 38s) Kevin:
Yep.
(1m 40s) Al:
And I’m sure there will be some more stuff after we record.
(1m 43s)
We are recording after most of things, like we’ve, we’ve, we’ve had the Sony state of play.
(1m 44s) Kevin:
That’s correct.
(1m 50s) Al:
We’ve had the uh, the Summer Game Fest keynote, we’ve had the Xbox.
(1m 55s) Kevin:
Xbox ending like literally as we recorded, kind of, I think.
(1m 59s) Al:
Yeah.
(2m) Kevin:
I don’t know.
(2m)
It might be on still.
(2m 1s)
I don’t know.
(2m 1s)
I didn’t I wasn’t watching.
(2m 2s) Al:
They’re doing they’re doing deep dives into like 2 or 3 games that I don’t care about.
(2m 7s)
I was like, I’m done.
(2m 9s)
It was the new game of war, Game of War, Gears of War.
(2m 12s) Kevin:
That is no, that’s correct.
(2m 13s) Al:
Uh, and some other thing that basically just looked like gears of war as well.
(2m 18s)
Uh, except maybe they could pause time.
(2m 20s) Kevin:
Biggest news to me is Xbox still makes games.
(2m 22s) Al:
I don’t know.
(2m 23s)
Yeah, yeah, but it seems to be all be the same 2 games over and over again.
(2m 28s)
Um, Plus, for some reason, uh, uh, untitled goose game, but it’s a magpie this time.
(2m 28s) Kevin:
True, true.
(2m 36s)
I need I need to see that. okay.
(2m 38s) Al:
Anyway, point is, we haven’t had a Nintendo thing and there might be some more stuff to come.
(2m 44s)
Hopefully, and, uh, you know, a marvellous thing maybe giving me a study of seasons game.
(2m 49s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah.
(2m 50s) Al:
We’ll see, but like, I don’t know.
(2m 52s)
We’ll see.
(2m 52s) Kevin:
That would be the one, right?
(2m 55s)
If not in wholesome direct, then be the Nintendo.
(2m 58s) Al:
Yeah, well, or on the road, they’ve done their own standalone thing.
(3m 2s) Kevin:
Oh yeah, you’re right.
(3m 3s)
Come on, Sakuna.
(3m 3s) Al:
Because that’s where they actually, because it was 3 years ago that they announced the 2 new story seasons games that they haven’t talked about since.
(3m 11s)
(3m 14s)
So, and that was in, that was in their own standalone marvellous games showcase.
(3m 16s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah.
(3m 20s) Al:
But they didn’t showcase the games.
(3m 22s)
They just hinted at them.
(3m 23s) Kevin:
No.
(3m 23s)
Yeah.
(3m 24s)
All right.
(3m 26s)
I, so stay tuned for part 2 of too many games.
(3m 29s) Al:
We’ll see.
(3m 30s)
Yeah, who knows?
(3m 31s)
who knows what next week will be.
(3m 32s)
Anyway, we’re going to talk all about that.
(3m 35s)
So much news.
(3m 35s)
It’s going to be fun going through it.
(3m 37s)
Before that we have, I know what you released last month because it’s the start of a month.
What Have We Been Up To
(3m 41s) Al:
But 1st of all, Kevin, what have you been up?
(3m 44s) Kevin:
Um, so busy with things.
(3m 47s)
I’ve actually been playing some asthma, though, and the, you know, time, bits and pieces I get.
(3m 53s)
I haven’t picked up a copia.
(3m 55s)
It’s wild.
(3m 56s)
I’m playing another game, but here I am.
(3m 58s) Al:
Nothing wrong with that.
(4m) Kevin:
I was enjoying it.
(4m 2s)
Chug along and and I’m enjoying it.
(4m 3s)
I’m the relationship shipping, porting people.
(4m 7s)
I still haven’t even met all the eligible bachelor folk, but um, No, I’m enjoying it.
(4m 13s)
It’s fun.
(4m 13s)
Um, that’s, that’s, I’m trying to think, that’s kind of the big thing.
(4m 17s)
That’s kind of it.
(4m 18s)
Um, Al, what about you?
(4m 20s) Al:
I don’t think I’ve been playing anything.
(4m 24s) Kevin:
Okay, that’s fine.
(4m 24s) Al:
Um, Uh, yeah, uh, I just, I’ve been, it’s been a busy couple of weeks.
(4m 25s) Kevin:
I get that.
(4m 26s)
I’m close to that.
(4m 32s) Al:
I was I was doing some real life stuff, so I didn’t really have the time.
(4m 37s)
Or it’s not really the time.
(4m 39s)
It’s more like the brain energy, you know, um, especially as I was at the point where I’d be, I would be starting a new game, so I didn’t really have the brain energy to start a new game.
(4m 41s) Kevin:
Uh-huh.
(4m 48s) Al:
So I just kind of didn’t do much games wise.
(4m 49s) Kevin:
Yep, fair enough.
(4m 51s) Al:
But what I have done is I have watched Spider Noir.
(4m 55s) Kevin:
With Nick Expletive Cage.
(4m 58s) Al:
Nick Cage, yes, yeah.
(4m 58s) Kevin:
Yay.
(5m) Al:
And I like it.
(5m 1s) Kevin:
Is it good?
(5m 4s) Al:
I think it’s really good.
(5m 5s)
It’s it’s obviously very different.
(5m 7s)
But I really enjoyed it.
(5m 7s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(5m 10s) Al:
I thought it did things differently enough to not just be just Spider-Man.
(5m 18s)
And but I also think, I think it did, it was an
(5m 18s) Kevin:
Okay, so it’s different?
(5m 20s)
Okay.
(5m 22s) Al:
It was an interesting enough mystery, right?
(5m 25s) Kevin:
Uh okay.
(5m 25s) Al:
Because obviously it’s a noir.
(5m 26s)
It has to have a mystery.
(5m 27s)
So the noir the mystery was interesting enough, but also it felt like there were lots of little mysteries in it.
(5m 34s)
So like most, not necessarily every episode, but like every 2 episodes, it felt like you were, you were uncovering a mystery, which is quite nice.
(5m 40s) Kevin:
Mm-hmm.
(5m 43s)
Hmm.
(5m 43s) Al:
So it kind of, I felt it was a nice balance between individual episode storytelling and whole episode, whole season, storytelling.
(5m 52s)
Like you don’t just you don’t just feel like it’s just one story spread across 8 episodes.
(5m 53s) Kevin:
Yeah, the overarching thing, yeah.
(5m 58s) Al:
It feels like there is an overarching story that you are trying to find out, but they keep giving you stuff in every episode or every 2nd episode, which was really nice.
(6m 8s) Kevin:
Okay, okay.
(6m 9s)
That’s that sounds nice overall.
(6m 11s)
Um, okay, mhm.
(6m 11s) Al:
And I think they did a really good balancing of existing characters, but making them different because obviously a lot of these things have to be quite different because of its, you know, aesthetic and its time period and stuff.
(6m 22s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(6m 24s) Al:
And I think it did that really well while not being just like completely brand new characters.
(6m 25s) Kevin:
What?
(6m 30s)
Yeah, that’s my 1st question.
(6m 31s)
Like, how, how does that work or feel?
(6m 34s)
You’re saying it’s good, but like, I don’t know.
(6m 37s)
Can you give me an example, right?
(6m 39s)
Like, what’s a character?
(6m 39s) Al:
It’s hard. Okay, I will give you, I will give you one example.
(6m 41s) Kevin:
Even if I’d know.
(6m 43s)
Okay.
(6m 44s) Al:
And that is the main female character is essentially Felicia Hardy.
(6m 48s) Kevin:
Uh-huh.
(6m 52s)
Okay, sure.
(6m 52s) Al:
But they call her Cat Hardy.
(6m 53s) Kevin:
That makes sense.
(6m 55s) Al:
She’s not cold.
(6m 56s)
I don’t know if I feel I get, I think at one point they do say that her name is Felicia, but she gets called Cat.
(7m 1s) Kevin:
Yeah, okay.
(7m 2s) Al:
Um, and so obviously because of the, you know, the time period and the, uh, uh, you know, sexism.
(7m 10s)
Uh, like her, her existence is more difficult in general and so she is not Catwoman.
(7m 11s) Kevin:
No.
(7m 16s)
Yeah.
(7m 18s) Al:
Nope, wrong universe.
(7m 19s) Kevin:
Nope, I mean, she wouldn’t be in most cases.
(7m 20s) Al:
Black cat.
(7m 21s)
She is not black cat.
(7m 23s)
Why do I do that?
(7m 24s)
I always seem to make that mistake.
(7m 25s)
I don’t know why.
(7m 26s) Kevin:
Well, because they’re the same character, that’s why that’s not your fault.
(7m 29s)
It’s literally the same character.
(7m 30s) Al:
But she is not black cat.
(7m 31s) Kevin:
It’s fine.
(7m 32s) Al:
At least I noticed it before you pointed out this time.
(7m 34s)
So she’s not actually obviously a black cat, but they do a good job of having her personality still be very similar to how Felicia’s personality is in the comic books, like her interest in the spider.
(7m 35s) Kevin:
Yep.
(7m 47s)
Okay.
(7m 50s)
Okay.
(7m 53s) Al:
He’s not called Spider-Man in this, you know, he’s called the Spider.
(7m 57s) Kevin:
Yeah, he’s just the spooter.
(7m 57s) Al:
But her interest in the spider, and also separately her interest, uh, to what degree I won’t say, because I don’t want to spoil things, but like her interest in, um, what’s his name?
(8m 9s) Kevin:
Nick Cage.
(8m 9s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, but his character’s name.
(8m 11s) Kevin:
It’s Riley, isn’t it?
(8m 12s) Al:
Can’t remember. He’s Ben Reilly, yeah.
(8m 13s) Kevin:
Is he a Ben Riley or, uh, he’s a Ben.
(8m 15s) Al:
Yeah.
(8m 15s)
So his interest in Ben is kind of very reminiscent of, you know, what they do with Peter Parker in the comic books, et cetera.
(8m 16s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(8m 25s)
Sure, sure.
(8m 26s) Al:
which is all, I think very interesting and in keeping with her character while she can’t be the same character, right?
(8m 26s) Kevin:
Okay.
(8m 33s) Al:
It doesn’t make sense for her to be the same character, but she still is quite pinnacle to the plot. And I feel has a very similar personality while being.
(8m 34s) Kevin:
Right.
(8m 44s)
Okay.
(8m 44s)
Okay, that’s int- that that sounds good.
(8m 47s)
All right, let me ask.
(8m 48s) Al:
And here’s here’s one here’s one other thing to get you to get your appetite wet.
(8m 49s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah?
(8m 52s) Al:
He has a different origin story.
(8m 56s) Kevin:
Well, yeah, I mean, wait, does he?
(8m 58s)
Yeah, no, I guess so.
(8m 59s)
Uh, that’s interesting.
(9m 1s)
I’ll have to check that out.
(9m 2s)
Yeah, don’t tell me on that.
(9m 3s) Al:
I won’t I don’t want to say how.
(9m 3s) Kevin:
Ill look it up myself.
(9m 4s) Al:
I don’t want to say how, but I think you in particular, Kevin, will enjoy the differences in his origin story.
(9m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(9m 10s)
Oh, I’m looking it up now.
(9m 11s) Al:
Oh, come on.
(9m 13s) Kevin:
Okay, fine, fine, fine.
(9m 15s)
We’ll see, but that is interesting.
(9m 17s)
I like it.
(9m 18s)
Is he actually just spiders, man?
(9m 20s)
Is that what you’re telling me now?
(9m 24s) Al:
Okay, I’ll tell you after the recording if you want to know.
(9m 28s)
I will, I will spoil it for, if you’re not, if you’re not going to watch it, I will spoil it for you after the, after the recording.
(9m 28s) Kevin:
All right, well, well, it’s fine.
(9m 30s)
Okay.
(9m 34s)
Okay, okay.
(9m 35s)
2 more questions.
(9m 37s)
Okay.
(9m 37s)
One, how much superhero is there?
(9m 40s)
And you know what I mean by that.
(9m 41s) Al:
Good amount.
(9m 42s) Kevin:
you know, the Marvel CGI.
(9m 43s) Al:
I think, um, there are some iffy CGI moments, um, there’s clearly a couple of bits with a cheap cheap tail a little bit, but, um, what I will say is that most of the, the show looks really good.
(9m 49s) Kevin:
Okay.
(9m 52s)
Uh-huh.
(9m 57s) Al:
There’s not, there’s not like big CGI battle, but there are some interesting fight scenes.
(9m 58s) Kevin:
Okay.
(10m 6s)
Sure.
(10m 6s)
I mean, Sandman’s in it, so, you know, it’s gonna…
(10m 8s) Al:
Well, yes, so there are a few super superhero villains, but they, like the spider, their existence is different than in the standard stories.
(10m 17s) Kevin:
Sure.
(10m 20s)
Sure, sure, sure.
(10m 20s) Al:
But they are, they are still similar, again, in powers and personalities, but also different at the same time.
(10m 29s) Kevin:
Sure.
(10m 29s)
Okay, that sounds good.
(10m 30s)
This all sounds good.
(10m 31s)
Okay, my last big question.
(10m 33s)
Uh, is a lack, okay.
(10m 36s)
Are you watching Nick Cage, running around Spider-Man suit, or is are you watching Ben, if you understand what I mean?
(10m 44s)
How much Nick Cage is it?
(10m 45s) Al:
I do understand what you mean.
(10m 46s)
I do understand what you mean, and I think the Nick Cage does come out.
(10m 52s) Kevin:
Sure, it has to.
(10m 53s)
He’s Nick Cage.
(10m 54s)
It impossible.
(10m 55s)
But I can live with it.
(10m 55s) Al:
But I, I think, I mean, he’s not like Ben Riley in the comics, right?
(10m 56s) Kevin:
The question is how much?
(11m 1s) Al:
Because Ben Riley in the comics is just, you know, Peter Parker, right?
(11m 2s) Kevin:
All right.
(11m 6s)
Yeah, yeah.
(11m 6s) Al:
Like he’s just the same person.
(11m 7s)
So he’s clearly, he is not spoiler alert.
(11m 10s)
As far as we know, he is not just a clone of Peter Parker, right?
(11m 13s)
We don’t know a Peter Parker in this universe.
(11m 15s)
So I’m guessing that in this universe, he is just the Spider-Man.
(11m 18s)
There is no Peter Parker, blah, blah, blah, blah.
(11m 19s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(11m 19s)
Right, right, right.
(11m 20s) Al:
Um, So he does have a different personality because of that.
(11m 24s)
I don’t, I, it’s hard.
(11m 26s) Kevin:
Okay.
(11m 29s) Al:
I feel like it’s a personal judgement, I think, you have to take.
(11m 32s) Kevin:
Sure, that’s true.
(11m 32s) Al:
Like, I’m not watching it going like, I’m just watching Nick Cage.
(11m 36s)
He’s not just the same as every other thing he does.
(11m 39s)
I do think that obviously he hidden the Nick Cage comes out.
(11m 40s) Kevin:
Okay.
(11m 43s) Al:
You’re not going to cast Nick Cage and not have him been at Cage, but…
(11m 47s) Kevin:
That’s correct.
(11m 48s)
Yeah, no, that that’s fair.
(11m 49s) Al:
It feels real.
(11m 49s) Kevin:
But if there’s an effort, if there was direction.
(11m 52s) Al:
It feels real enough to me.
(11m 52s) Kevin:
Yeah, okay.
(11m 54s)
Okay, good.
(11m 55s)
because yeah, exactly.
(11m 57s)
Like, like you say, you don’t pass Nick Cage without wanting some Nick Cage.
(12m 1s)
But, you know, there’s an effort to be different too, right?
(12m 5s)
Like, look at Jim Carrey Eggman, right?
(12m 7s)
Like, you know, as great as he is, that’s not Eggman, right?
(12m 9s) Al:
Yeah.
(12m 9s)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
(12m 10s) Kevin:
Like, that’s just Jim Carrey.
(12m 11s) Al:
No, I think it’s, I think it’s, I think it’s less, it’s less Nick Cage than Eggman is, um, uh, Jim Carey, because Eggman is just Jim Carey, right?
(12m 12s) Kevin:
Oh.
(12m 15s)
Okay.
(12m 21s)
Yeah, okay.
(12m 21s)
Yeah, that’s great.
(12m 22s) Al:
There’s not really anything to that.
(12m 23s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(12m 24s) Al:
which is not
(12m 24s)
I not saying that’s a bad thing, but that is a thing.
(12m 25s) Kevin:
Right, right.
(12m 27s) Al:
And that’s a thing that if you don’t like him, that would put you off.
(12m 27s) Kevin:
I’ll agree.
(12m 27s)
Yeah.
(12m 30s) Al:
I think if you really hate Nick Cage, then you’re probably still going to not like this as much.
(12m 31s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(12m 36s) Al:
But I think if you liked Nick Cage, you just want him to be a bit less or a bit different. I think this is, I think it’s done well enough for that.
(12m 36s) Kevin:
Welsh.
(12m 43s)
Okay, okay.
(12m 43s) Al:
The.
(12m 45s) Kevin:
All right, this, all right, this, these are all the answers I want to hear.
(12m 48s)
This sounds great.
(12m 49s)
Good stuff.
(12m 49s)
I will try to check.
(12m 50s)
on Amazon Prime.
(12m 51s) Al:
It is, yeah.
(12m 51s) Kevin:
I do have it.
(12m 52s)
Okay.
(12m 52s)
Okay.
(12m 53s) Al:
I think I think it’s really, I think it’s really well done.
(12m 53s) Kevin:
Yeah I’ll check it out.
(12m 54s)
Oh, oh, well, okay.
(12m 57s) Al:
Um and I think that the story is interesting.
(13m 1s)
There were some mysteries that I managed to solve and there were some that I did not, which is how I like these things to be, where it’s like you can figure these things out, but not everything.
(13m 1s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(13m 5s)
Ooh.
(13m 6s)
Yeah, that sounds good.
(13m 10s)
Sure.
(13m 10s) Al:
Maybe there were some people that figured it all out.
(13m 13s)
I don’t know.
(13m 14s)
But, um, yeah, I really enjoyed it.
(13m 18s) Kevin:
Okay.
(13m 19s) Al:
I thought Nick Cage was great.
(13m 20s)
I thought a bunch of other the other actors were great.
(13m 23s)
I think…
(13m 25s)
Okay, I’ll tell you this one other thing about the Nick Cage versus not Nick Cage thing.
(13m 28s) Kevin:
Yeah. Yeah.
(13m 29s) Al:
I think the way they do it is really well in that he’s more Nick Cage when he’s drunk and less Nick Cage when he’s not.
(13m 35s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(13m 36s)
Oh, that’s incredible.
(13m 38s)
That sounds incredible.
(13m 40s)
That’s what I want.
(13m 41s) Al:
And so I think that’s the right balance personally.
(13m 44s)
If you’re going to Nick Cage, I think that is a really good way of being like, well, sometimes we want him to be full Nick Cage and sometimes we don’t, is you make him drunk sometimes.
(13m 44s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(13m 50s)
Yeah.
(13m 52s) Al:
And I think it works…
(13m 56s)
There’s like there’s one scene in particular in like this 7th episode that I think you will adore.
(14m 1s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(14m 1s)
Oh, that sounds great.
(14m 3s)
Nick Cage, he puts the Nick Cage mask over the Spider-Man mask.
(14m 6s) Al:
Yeah. Oh, Kevin, I can’t say anything, but I need to, I need you to remember the sentence you just said and then come back to me once you’ve watched it.
(14m 15s) Kevin:
Oh my goodness.
(14m 18s)
I was joking people.
(14m 19s) Al:
I probably said too much there, but I’m I’m sorry.
(14m 21s) Kevin:
No, that’s fun.
(14m 22s)
I I don’t know how that would play out, but that’s incredible.
(14m 25s) Al:
You have no idea what you’re in for, but I think, I think, I think you will enjoy.
(14m 29s) Kevin:
Oh my.
(14m 31s) Al:
Like, I don’t think everybody would enjoy this, but I do think you would enjoy it.
(14m 33s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah.
(14m 34s)
Okay, I mean, I’m going to check it out.
(14m 37s)
All right, last question, last question.
(14m 39s)
This is just minor one because this office is preference.
(14m 41s)
Are you doing black and white or colour?
(14m 43s) Al:
I did it in black and white on my own, because when it came out, I was not at home with Rona, and we’re going to watch it together in colour.
(14m 46s) Kevin:
Mm-hmm.
(14m 51s)
Yeah.
(14m 53s)
Okay.
(14m 53s) Al:
So I will get both.
(14m 54s) Kevin:
Hey, you know what’s?
(14m 55s) Al:
I think I honestly think both are good.
(14m 56s) Kevin:
Yeah, go ahead.
(14m 58s)
Yeah, I was about to say, it’s crazy how this show that was, you know, there was a pitch to be black and white or whatever, still in colour looks better than like 90% of everything that was coming out in movie and TV.
(15m 10s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, I…
(15m 13s)
Yeah, I think they did a really good job of doing both.
(15m 15s)
I don’t feel like you miss anything in black and white.
(15m 17s)
I feel like you kind of, obviously you gain the atmosphere, and I think in colour, I think the vibrancy of some of the colours is really nice.
(15m 26s)
And it’ll be interesting to rewatch it all with the colour and see not necessarily whether I missed anything because I’m sure I didn’t miss anything, but like you might notice some other, you might notice details differently when there’s colour and stuff like that, I think.
(15m 27s) Kevin:
Yeah it is.
(15m 36s)
But how it’s different.
(15m 40s) Al:
So it’ll be really interesting to see how that compares.
(15m 44s) Kevin:
Sounds great.
(15m 45s)
Sick.
(15m 45s)
Okay, I’m gonna check it out.
(15m 46s)
This sounds awesome.
(15m 47s)
All right, tell me about Mr. Ghibli Man and his movies, Al.
(15m 52s) Al:
Oh yes, yes, I’ve also been, I’ve been watching a whole bunch of Ghibli Ghibli films.
(15m 56s)
So I am…
(15m 58s) Kevin:
Yeah, I I honestly have not watched that many, so, but uh, you’re grown.
(16m 1s) Al:
I’m up to 12 of them now, 12 out of 24.
(16m 2s) Kevin:
That’s a lot.
(16m 4s)
Yeah.
(16m 4s) Al:
So I watched The Boy and the Heron when it came out.
(16m 6s) Kevin:
Cool.
(16m 7s) Al:
Was that 2 years ago, I think?
(16m 8s) Kevin:
That was that’s out the Rob Patterson, isn’t it?
(16m 12s) Al:
Yes, yes.
(16m 13s)
So I saw that in the cinema, and it was great.
(16m 16s)
I was like, this is good.
(16m 17s)
I really like this.
(16m 18s)
And so now I finally got to the point where I’m like, okay, I’m not going through any other film series just now.
(16m 25s)
I’ve got my watch list down to a manageable amount.
(16m 28s)
Let’s go heavy in.
(16m 31s)
I spent, as I mentioned, I spent 2 weeks.
(16m 33s)
you know, not at home, not with the rest of my family.
(16m 36s)
So I’m like, this is a good time to like.
(16m 37s) Kevin:
Yep, depending your castle in Scotland as you do.
(16m 42s) Al:
In the Isle of Man, actually, but sure.
(16m 44s)
And then I was like, this is a good time to go in watch a whole bunch of these films.
(16m 52s)
So I am now up to the 1st 11 plus the boy in the heron.
(16m 57s)
Um, So I have watched now, not, not, not, Nausika in the Valley of the Wind, castle in the sky.
(16m 58s) Kevin:
Cool.
(16m 59s)
Uh,
(17m 4s)
Um.
(17m 4s)
Mm-hmm.
(17m 5s) Al:
Curse of the fly, curse, grave of a flyfly, sorry, grave of a flyfly.
(17m 11s) Kevin:
You’d want the fun one.
(17m 12s) Al:
It’s super, super fun.
(17m 19s) Kevin:
The one where Miyazaki just, wait, was that me?
(17m 23s)
I assuming it’s me, yeah lucky.
(17m 24s) Al:
Yeah.
(17m 24s) Kevin:
She just decides to, you know what?
(17m 27s)
No more facade.
(17m 28s) Al:
Oh no, that one wasn’t Miyazaki.
(17m 28s) Kevin:
Let’s just do what I want.
(17m 29s) Al:
That one was not me, Zaki.
(17m 30s) Kevin:
Oh, wasn’t?
(17m 30s) Al:
It was Tak, Tak, Takahata?
(17m 31s) Kevin:
No, okay.
(17m 33s)
Uh, I don’t remember.
(17m 33s) Al:
Isau, Takehata, who directed that?
(17m 35s) Kevin:
Oh, was it?
(17m 37s)
Okay, okay.
(17m 37s)
Yeah, that’s right.
(17m 38s)
Okay.
(17m 38s)
Then that’s why it’s, it’s too
(17m 40s)
It too earnest for me, is not.
(17m 42s)
Uh, anyway, sorry, go ahead.
(17m 42s) Al:
Um, yeah, it was like, I, I, I describe the, if you, if you haven’t watched these films and you want to just skip to the next section because I think this is probably going to be the last bit um in the, what we’ve been up to.
(17m 54s)
I described these on our discord as Nausika and the Valley of the Wind is about how war is bad and we should work together better.
(18m 4s)
Castle in the sky is about how war is bad and we should work together.
(18m 8s)
Grave of the Fireflies is about watching 2 children die slowly of starvation.
(18m 13s)
My neighbour Tortereau is about a funny little guy who lives in the forest and wears a leaf on his head.
(18m 18s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(18m 19s) Al:
Like, those like 4 films in order is just like, I don’t know what to do here.
(18m 25s)
And I watch them like one after the other in 4 consecutive days.
(18m 26s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s.
(18m 30s) Al:
Like, it’s just, it just…
(18m 34s)
The whiplash, my goodness.
(18m 36s) Kevin:
Yep.
(18m 37s)
Yeah, yeah.
(18m 41s)
Oh.
(18m 41s) Al:
So then we had my neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s delivery service, which, sure, now I get it.
(18m 48s)
All the comparing everything to Kiki.
(18m 50s)
I will see with Kiki.
(18m 53s)
Not a lot of the actually delivery happens.
(18m 57s)
I think she does like 3 deliveries and then spends most of the time fawning over a boy.
(18m 57s) Kevin:
Yeah, you’re right, not a lot.
(19m 1s)
That’s correct.
(19m 2s)
Yeah, that’s correct.
(19m 5s)
That is correct.
(19m 7s)
But she does it on a broom, so it’s memorable.
(19m 7s) Al:
Sure, sure, sure, sure.
(19m 11s)
Um, and then we had only yesterday.
(19m 14s)
Um, Porco Rosso, Ocean Waves.
(19m 19s)
Pompoko, which is my favourite so far.
(19m 22s)
Pom Poco.
(19m 23s)
Have you seen that one?
(19m 25s) Kevin:
No, exactly.
(19m 26s)
I haven’t seen a lot.
(19m 28s) Al:
It’s about a whole bunch of raccoons who can transform and
(19m 32s) Kevin:
Oh, the Janoopies?
(19m 33s)
Oh, I know that one.
(19m 34s) Al:
Yeah.
(19m 35s) Kevin:
I mean, I watched it, but I know.
(19m 37s) Al:
It was, it was just excellent.
(19m 39s)
It was so good on so many levels.
(19m 42s)
It’s just, yeah.
(19m 43s)
Um,
(19m 43s) Kevin:
That’s oh, that’s awesome.
(19m 44s) Al:
And then Whisper of the Heart, and then on Thursday, I watched Princess Monono, Monono.
(19m 52s) Kevin:
Monanoke?
(19m 53s) Al:
They only say it once in the whole film, so I couldn’t, I didn’t actually catch how they pronounced it.
(19m 58s)
Do you know, interestingly, Ocean Waves was the only one that did not have a dub, an English dub?
(20m 6s) Kevin:
Oh, really?
(20m 6s) Al:
Yeah, because so so apparently most of the English dubs.
(20m 7s) Kevin:
Huh?
(20m 11s) Al:
Disney did in 2005.
(20m 13s) Kevin:
That’s correct.
(20m 14s)
Which, ironic or like, amusingly makes Disney actually one of the biggest, uh, distributors of anime, because they do all the Ghibli stuff.
(20m 23s) Al:
I just, yeah, and I, I, I back, we’ve talked about how I think that generally, um, Ghibli dubs are good.
(20m 25s) Kevin:
No.
(20m 32s) Al:
I double down on that.
(20m 33s)
They’re really good.
(20m 35s)
And they got a lot of, they got a lot of big name actors as well.
(20m 35s) Kevin:
Incredible.
(20m 38s) Al:
Like I think in Nausika, I think Patrick Stewart’s in it.
(20m 39s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah.
(20m 41s) Al:
Okay.
(20m 42s) Kevin:
Dude, I can’t wait for you to get to Howell’s Moving Castle, you get to hear Billy Crystal?
(20m 48s)
Billy Crystalline?
(20m 50s) Al:
Bizarre.
(20m 50s) Kevin:
It’s great.
(20m 51s) Al:
I’ve got 33 to watch beforehold.
(20m 54s)
So I’ve got my neighbour, the yam, yam, yam, Yamadaz, Yamaha?
(20m 59s)
Oh, Yama, Yama, Yama, Yamada’s.
(20m 59s) Kevin:
Yamadas?
(21m 2s) Al:
Yep, sure, that.
(21m 2s)
And then we’ve got Spirited Away, which is obviously another of the big ones.
(21m 6s)
And then and then the cat returns and then Howell’s Moving Castle.
(21m 7s) Kevin:
That’s a great one.
(21m 7s)
I know that one.
(21m 11s) Al:
I think I’ve nearly watched all of the like big ones that people always talk about, so there’s obviously Totoro, Kiki, Mononoke, Spirited Away, I feel like, are the big ones that people talk about all the time.
(21m 21s) Kevin:
I feel like, I feel like this.
(21m 24s)
Yeah, it’s pretty big one.
(21m 26s)
I think Hal gets like a good, big push, but…
(21m 29s) Al:
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
(21m 30s)
How old Howells as well, yeah.
(21m 30s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(21m 31s) Al:
But I’m not really out of the ones after Howells.
(21m 31s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah, because, yeah.
(21m 35s) Al:
I’m not really recognising the names of ones that people have talked about, except obviously the boy in the heron, which was…
(21m 37s) Kevin:
No, they’re, they’re not as, uh,
(21m 44s)
Yeah.
(21m 44s) Al:
So I don’t know how much of that is just to do with it.
(21m 44s) Kevin:
The Rob Pattinson.
(21m 46s)
Yeah, no, but, uh, no, but you’re right, because yeah, I look at the list and not a lot of them just, uh, breaking containment.
(21m 54s)
What do you want to say, right?
(21m 55s)
Like they’re not as ubiquitous as the others.
(21m 58s)
But cool.
(21m 59s) Al:
Yeah, well, I keep, I keep, I keep getting told that there’s at least a couple that aren’t good.
(21m 59s) Kevin:
I’m glad you’re liking it.
(22m 3s) Al:
So I’ve yet to see them.
(22m 5s) Kevin:
War.
(22m 5s) Al:
So we’ll…
(22m 5s) Kevin:
Yeah, it’s it’s got to happen.
(22m 7s) Al:
We’ll, we’ll, we’ll see.
(22m 7s) Kevin:
That’s a lot of movies.
(22m 9s)
That’s a big run to not have a couple of flops in there, but it’s fine.
(22m 13s) Al:
Yeah, I don’t know which ones, I don’t know which ones it is that people don’t like because I’m trying not to look at things beforehand because I don’t want to, you know, prejudge things.
(22m 13s) Kevin:
It’s fine.
(22m 20s)
Yeah.
(22m 20s)
Yeah.
(22m 21s) Al:
Um, but I know that there are at least 2 that people are like, uh.
(22m 25s)
And so that, you know, we’re now halfway through and I’ve not seen any of them that are bad, so we’ll see.
(22m 27s) Kevin:
Rain with the fireflies.
(22m 32s)
Grave of the Fireflies.
(22m 34s)
That’s the one they don’t like.
(22m 36s)
It’s not fun.
(22m 37s) Al:
Well, that’s that’s a whole different, a whole different thing.
(22m 38s) Kevin:
I know, I I get…
(22m 40s) Al:
I think it’s actually the highest.
(22m 41s)
I think it’s actually the highest rated one on letterbox.
(22m 44s) Kevin:
Yeah, no, it probably is.
(22m 45s) Al:
Yeah, is…
(22m 45s) Kevin:
It’s it’s incredible.
(22m 46s)
Like, I haven’t watched it.
(22m 47s)
I know it’s incredible but…
(22m 48s) Al:
It’s, it’s, its average rating on letterboxed is 4.5, which is just an insane rating.
(22m 54s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(22m 55s) Al:
Like, I think it gets it into like the top 50 on letterbox to full stop.
(23m) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah, that that sounds right, you know, so.
(23m 3s) Al:
a hard list to get into.
(23m 4s) Kevin:
Oh, Hollywood, pay attention.
(23m 8s)
People love to watch the children’s store.
(23m 14s)
Okay, let’s go on before I go too down, that mental rental.
(23m 18s) Al:
All right, yes, that’s what we’ve been up to.
(23m 21s)
I know what you released last month.
(23m 21s) Kevin:
Woo!
I Know What You Released Last Month
(23m 25s) Al:
I can’t find my window.
(23m 28s)
There we are.
(23m 28s)
So 4 games were released in May, we have farm to table.
(23m 34s)
I think that was an early access.
(23m 36s)
I should have double checked this beforehand.
(23m 36s) Kevin:
Okay.
(23m 37s)
Uh.
(23m 38s) Al:
Farm to table was an early access, and then we had outbound, obviously, talked about it on the podcast.
(23m 45s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(23m 45s) Al:
We got Bitter Harvest, which, interestingly, I try…
(23m 51s)
Ah, that is one thing I did actually try.
(23m 53s)
I tried the demo for Bitter Harvest.
(23m 55s) Kevin:
Oh.
(23m 55s) Al:
I’m not a huge fan of the controls and like the menus and stuff.
(24m) Kevin:
Ah.
(24m 1s) Al:
Sorry.
(24m 3s)
Yeah, a lot of it feels like, like, just as an example, when you talk to someone, once they finish talking to you, that’s it.
(24m 11s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(24m 12s) Al:
You don’t get to talk to them again the rest of the day, like they just don’t respond to you. And there’s a whole bunch of weird stuff around like how the menus and bags and stuff work.
(24m 14s) Kevin:
Oh.
(24m 15s)
Yeah, one of those, yeah.
(24m 23s) Al:
Just, it kind, it feels a little bit like, you know, if this came out, you know, 5 years after Harvest Moon, it would feel great.
(24m 31s)
It would like, it’s a whole bunch of lots of quality of life improvements over that, but we’re now what another 20 years down the line from that.
(24m 40s)
And so it just, there’s a lot about it that I’m just not, it’s not enjoyable for, for me.
(24m 41s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(24m 46s) Al:
A lot of things and I found it’s a bit hard to figure out what it wants you to do next and stuff like that.
(24m 49s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(24m 54s) Al:
And it… So I don’t know.
(24m 55s) Kevin:
Yeah, uh.
(24m 58s) Al:
I want it to be good.
(24m 59s)
Maybe it’ll improve.
(24m 59s)
It has had quite a few small updates since then.
(25m 2s)
They’re up to like one.
(25m 3s)
3 and they’ve added a bunch.
(25m 6s)
So like, oh, one.
(25m 7s)
3 adds reactive dialogue, so maybe that’s improving things a bit.
(25m 11s)
With the MPCs.
(25m 12s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(25m 13s) Al:
So I’m hoping that there’s just a bunch, like after a few months, this will be really good.
(25m 20s) Kevin:
Okay, so just need some time in the oven.
(25m 22s) Al:
I think so.
(25m 23s)
I think it’s promising, but there’s, yeah, it needs, it needs someone who has a really good UX experience to come over and just kind of redesign a bunch of them.
(25m 36s) Kevin:
Yeah, sure.
(25m 38s) Al:
Um, and then Budgie’s Bugshop as well, the 4th game they released in Maine.
(25m 42s) Kevin:
Like, pooky little bird, bug game.
(25m 45s)
Which is fun.
(25m 47s)
I’ll be honest.
(25m 47s)
Budgies.
(25m 50s) Al:
I agree.
(25m 50s)
All right, so we’re going to talk a whole bunch of news.
(25m 54s)
I guess 1st of all, Kevin, do you have any thoughts on the wholesome direct as a whole?
Wholesome Direct Overview
(25m 58s) Al:
A whole some direct, you might say?
(25m 59s) Kevin:
Well, yeah.
(26m)
Well,
(26m) Al:
Like, you know, for example, do you want to talk about the fact that it’s weird that they had a VTuber with some very interesting physics introduce one of the games.
(26m 9s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(26m 9s) Al:
Did you notice that?
(26m 11s) Kevin:
Yeah, that was that was fun.
(26m 12s) Al:
That was, oh, boy.
(26m 15s) Kevin:
Um, yeah.
(26m 18s)
Yeah, good times.
(26m 20s)
Um, it’s really, uh, that one aside, um, Uh,
(26m 26s)
It just, it, it was uh, kind of like great with the firefly, just whiplash where that one came out.
(26m 33s)
Um, but all in all, um, when I watched it, I’m just reminded why they will probably never invite us.
(26m 42s)
Oh, I mean, I get it’s, oh, excuse me.
(26m 46s)
Um, I get it’s the uh, it’s the name.
(26m 49s)
It’s also in book, good heavens.
(26m 51s)
It’s so over the top sack, Ryan.
(26m 53s)
Um, everyone.
(26m 54s) Al:
Yeah, there’s there’s wholesome and then there’s that.
(26m 57s)
Like, it’s almost, it’s almost at the point where most people who are talking to…
(26m 58s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(27m 2s)
Yeah, and the worst part is like, I don’t think it’s any one.
(27m 6s)
Well, at least nobody on camera, maybe.
(27m 8s)
Um, because I’m sure everyone was just asked to record and and they did their thing, but like, oh my, I was just watching it and you know, when the presenters or or streamers, they introduce them.
(27m 18s)
I’m just, I’m just thinking, somebody, please drop an F bomb.
(27m 21s)
Oh my goodness.
(27m 25s)
I can feel myself getting more jaded.
(27m 26s) Al:
Yeah.
(27m 28s) Kevin:
Um, and again, like, uh,
(27m 30s) Al:
Yeah, I don’t even think you need.
(27m 31s)
even think you need to go that far.
(27m 32s)
It just, I just feel like it’s everybody talks on the same kind of over the top soft voice and like, oh, goodness.
(27m 33s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(27m 36s)
The cadence, the tone.
(27m 40s)
And look, and this isn’t entirely their fault because the well has been somewhat poisoned, but everyone using the, you know, the kind of the psychology speak, right, of, of, uh, the safe spaces and all that stuff, just like the terminology.
(27m 55s)
It just, 0 my goodness, it just, I can’t take.
(27m 57s)
I can’t take so much out.
(27m 59s)
It’s too much in one dose.
(28m) Al:
Well, especially they should just at the beginning, say like all of these, all of these streamers and podcasters are, are, you know, have a safe space, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
(28m) Kevin:
It’s too much.
(28m 9s) Al:
Now move on and nobody needs to mention that again.
(28m 11s)
Right?
(28m 12s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah, wouldn’t that be nice?
(28m 12s) Al:
Like, because this is the thing. It’s like, they’re all like, oh, we love cosy games.
(28m 17s)
Yeah, of course you do.
(28m 17s)
You’re on the wholesome direct.
(28m 18s)
What are you talking about?
(28m 19s) Kevin:
See, this is why they need us, but they’re too cowards.
(28m 23s)
They don’t they won’t want us screeching like gremblings.
(28m 25s) Al:
Look, it’s about wholesome games.
(28m 26s) Kevin:
They don’t.
(28m 27s) Al:
That doesn’t mean everything needs to be wholesome.
(28m 29s) Kevin:
No.
(28m 30s) Al:
Right?
(28m 31s)
The point of wholesome games was about being a place to highlight things that aren’t just 1st person shooters because it feels, and I still think this is the case in a lot of places. And I think things have improved since then, but I think it’s still the case that like the big things outside of Nintendo are quite often mostly just showing the same sorts of, you know, 1st person shooters and stuff like that that like a lot of us aren’t particularly interested in and having a space for other types of games.
(28m 42s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(28m 54s)
Yeah.
(28m 59s)
Yeah.
(29m 1s) Al:
is a nice place to have them because the games exist.
(29m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(29m 5s)
Yeah, no, I agree.
(29m 7s)
Um, and also just like, in general, like, I, oh, how should I put this?
(29m 13s)
I don’t think wholesome should be completely devoid of negativity or dark or scary things per se and and, you know, uh, like, also, I point to Pocopia, right?
(29m 20s) Al:
Yeah.
(29m 21s)
Yeah.
(29m 22s) Kevin:
Like, Bokopia in some senses is very dark and wild, right?
(29m 26s)
Or or Wanderstop or whatever, right?
(29m 27s) Al:
Yeah?
(29m 27s)
Stardew.
(29m 29s) Kevin:
Stardew, yes, yeah, there’s some rough spots, right?
(29m 32s) Al:
It’s not, it’s not, it’s not about, as you say, devoid of emotions.
(29m 37s)
It’s about you’re not having to run around and shoot people.
(29m 38s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(29m 41s) Al:
You know, that’s kind of the point.
(29m 42s) Kevin:
Yes.
(29m 43s)
Yep.
(29m 43s) Al:
Those games exist and that’s fine and they will always exist and they’ll always be popular and you’ll always know where to find them and this is about other types of games.
(29m 44s) Kevin:
Yep.
(29m 45s)
So like.
(29m 50s) Al:
We don’t have to be nothing.
(29m 53s)
You know?
(29m 54s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah, so it’s, yeah.
(29m 54s) Al:
All right.
(29m 57s) Kevin:
Okay, but yeah, that’s the overall thoughts. Like, it’s, it’s just so much of the same, and it’s just too much for those, but I made it.
(30m 5s)
I made it through the whole video.
(30m 6s)
Uh, let’s let’s get into.
(30m 7s) Al:
I don’t, I don’t, I didn’t, I didn’t actually just watch the video from start to end because my weekend has been very busy because I only got back on Friday.
(30m 15s) Kevin:
Sure.
(30m 15s) Al:
So, of course, I’ve been doing a lot of stuff with the kids because, you know, Rona dealt with them for 2 weeks without me.
(30m 18s) Kevin:
Well, lucky you.
(30m 20s) Al:
So I was doing a lot more than I normally would.
(30m 22s)
And yeah, just actually sitting down for an hour to watch it was not on the cards.
(30m 23s) Kevin:
Sure.
(30m 27s) Al:
But I’ve gone through everything.
(30m 27s) Kevin:
Sure.
(30m 28s)
Well.
(30m 29s) Al:
So hopefully there’s nothing we’ve missed in this list of news.
(30m 32s)
All right, let’s start off with.
Releases
(30m 33s) Kevin:
Come.
(30m 35s) Al:
We’re going to start with the one.0 releases.
(30m 38s)
So we have 3 games that are in early access that have announced their one.
(30m 43s)
0s.
(30m 43s)
First up, over Magica, have announced their one.
(30m 46s)
0
(30m 46s)
It’s out now already.
(30m 48s)
I think it’s actually got announced like a week and a half ago, but news time is difficult.
(30m 52s)
And consoles are coming out soon for that game.
(30m 54s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(30m 57s) Al:
Fields of Mystria, Kevin.
(30m 58s) Kevin:
Cool.
(30m 59s)
Yeah, my my one paltry attempt.
(31m) Al:
It was a Mystria.
(31m 2s)
They’re one.
(31m 3s)
is coming out on the 5th of August.
(31m 5s)
So you’re going to get a number on the draft, no matter what.
(31m 8s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(31m 8s)
Look, it doesn’t matter.
(31m 10s)
Cody’s won.
(31m 11s)
Like, I’ve given up.
(31m 11s) Al:
Look, don’t, don’t, I mean, remember, Cody has one of their 5 that is not coming out this year, so it does, so it’s all to play for.
(31m 19s) Kevin:
This may… This may be my only way coming out this year too.
(31m 23s)
I don’t remember what else I think.
(31m 23s) Al:
Well, no, no, no, because, you know what else?
(31m 25s) Kevin:
Wait, what else?
(31m 26s) Al:
Go-Go Town is one other one of your ones, and it’s one.
(31m 26s) Kevin:
Yeah?
(31m 27s)
What?
(31m 28s)
Wait, what?
(31m 30s) Al:
is coming out on the 16th of July.
(31m 30s) Kevin:
I don’t even remember that.
(31m 32s)
I don’t remember that.
(31m 33s) Al:
Kevin, your game’s worth, your games were Fields of Mystria, Petite Planet, Gogo Town, Super Zoo Story, and Starboard, and we’ve got Starboard news later as well.
(31m 34s) Kevin:
No, way the chicken back.
(31m 43s) Al:
We’re talking about 3 of your games this episode, Kevin.
(31m 43s) Kevin:
Uh, uh, uh, uh.
(31m 47s)
Oh, snap, never mind.
(31m 49s)
I take it back.
(31m 49s)
Hi for fields, mystery.
(31m 52s) Al:
So, Fields of Mystery are one.
(31m 53s) Kevin:
Oh.
(31m 54s) Al:
and 5th of August, Gogo 10, one.
(31m 56s)
on the 16th of July.
(31m 58s)
Both are adding obviously a whole bunch of stuff.
(32m 1s)
Gogortown’s adding multiplayer, local and online, which I feel like was a most games I don’t think should add multiplayer before they’re one.
Go-go Town
(32m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(32m 12s) Al:
because it’s, I think, it’s just something that’s, it’s quite a niche thing, but GoGoTown, it feels quite fundamental.
(32m 16s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(32m 17s)
It does.
(32m 18s)
Uh, so I will say, like, Gogo, Gogo Town feels like, okay, this feels like one.
(32m 24s)
0.0.
(32m 24s)
This feels like a bona fide game and coming out on the switch, like yeah, okay.
(32m 25s) Al:
Yeah.
(32m 29s) Kevin:
I think GoGo Down is going to nail the landing here.
(32m 31s)
Um, like the trailer just looks great.
(32m 34s)
It looks like a very complete extensive package.
(32m 36s)
Good for you, Go-go-ta.
(32m 38s) Al:
Yeah.
(32m 38s) Kevin:
I will probably try it with uh, the, the travel excited me.
(32m 38s) Al:
There.
(32m 41s) Kevin:
So, once one.
(32m 42s)
drops, I will probably give it a shot, especially since on switch.
(32m 44s) Al:
They are also, they’re adding 2 exciting things.
(32m 48s)
They’re adding, uh, um, terraforming, which is a great addition to this game and they’re adding creative mode as well, which means that you can build up your town without having to unlock things.
(32m 49s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(32m 52s)
Yeah.
(32m 57s)
Critical.
(32m 58s)
That’s a good one too.
(33m 1s) Al:
Both absolutely excellent things for this game because this game is really fun, but I think those 2 things can put some people off it not having them and I think they would just make this game so much better.
(33m 2s) Kevin:
That.
(33m 5s)
Yep.
(33m 11s)
Yeah.
(33m 12s) Al:
I feel like I might need to jump back in for the woman.
(33m 14s) Kevin:
Yep.
(33m 17s)
Yeah, well, there you go.
(33m 18s)
2nd harvest incoming.
(33m 20s)
All these harvest season episodes being announced.
(33m 23s)
Um, so yeah, GoGoTown looks great.
(33m 23s) Al:
And Fields of mystery are?
(33m 26s) Kevin:
Oh, I, I don’t know, maybe it’s because I haven’t just been paying.
(33m 30s)
Well, no, I haven’t paid that much attention to Gogitan either, but I don’t know.
(33m 34s)
This one feels, I don’t know if it’s good, it might be lacking some stuff.
(33m 38s)
I don’t know.
(33m 39s)
I’m a little more cautious on fields of mystery.
(33m 42s)
Um, maybe just because I’m used to, I don’t know.
(33m 42s) Al:
Like what?
(33m 43s)
Give me give me examples.
(33m 46s) Kevin:
I don’t even know what specifically, but it just, maybe just because it’s been just development for so long. Or maybe I’m just thinking because it looks so much more like Stardew and, you know, Stardew is just always expanding and growing.
(33m 58s)
Um, I don’t I don’t know.
(34m)
We’ll see.
(34m)
I’m probably, like I said, I haven’t been paying attention too close.
(34m 1s) Al:
This game’s been out for less than 2 years in early access, which I know that sounds like a lot, but yeah, it’s only, I think I’m pretty sure it’s 24.
(34m 5s) Kevin:
Really, it feels longer.
(34m 6s)
Wow.
(34m 9s) Al:
Let me double check.
(34m 9s) Kevin:
That is not a lot, actually.
(34m 11s)
I don’t know.
(34m 12s)
Maybe I’m just still discouraged by the, or like I’m so torn on the aesthetics.
(34m 16s) Al:
Yeah.
(34m 17s)
Fifth of oh.
(34m 17s) Kevin:
It’s, it’s, I don’t know.
(34m 18s) Al:
Oh, oh, they’re they’re one.
(34m 20s)
coming out on the two-year anniversary.
(34m 22s)
Perfect, amazing.
(34m 23s) Kevin:
Ah, that’s cute.
(34m 24s) Al:
Love it.
(34m 24s) Kevin:
All right.
(34m 26s)
Well, like, it’s so popular.
(34m 28s)
I’m sure it’s good.
(34m 29s)
Um, it’ll be fine, I guess, as long as high for my fantasy drift.
(34m 33s)
That’s all that matters.
(34m 34s)
Um
(34m 34s) Al:
I think I think this is going to do numbers because when it 1st came out, people were loving it and it’s just, it’s just been adding more and more and more.
(34m 40s) Kevin:
Oh yeah, I mean, let’s not forget.
(34m 42s)
Let’s not forget, this is the game with the the pins, the the, the, on the undies on it before the game came out.
(34m 50s) Al:
Oh, God, about them.
(34m 51s)
There were there were bathing suits, not underwear.
(34m 54s)
I know the difference is does feel semantic, but still…
(34m 55s) Kevin:
Oh, was it?
(34m 59s)
Yeah. Oh, I do, okay, well, either way.
(35m 3s)
Oh, okay.
(35m 4s) Al:
So this this, the one.0 is basically just adding all the kind of, it’s raising everything.
(35m 9s)
It’s adding more MPC hearts, more, it’s adding marriage and children, so that, I guess, would be the big feature that was missing.
(35m 16s)
And then there’s additional dungeon.
(35m 18s) Kevin:
Oh, okay.
(35m 18s)
Wait, didn’t have marriage?
(35m 20s)
That’s crazy.
(35m 20s) Al:
They didn’t have merit in marriage, no.
(35m 21s)
You could raise relationships, but you couldn’t get married.
(35m 24s)
I think you could be dating up to this point.
(35m 25s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(35m 26s) Al:
I think they added that in an update about a year ago or something.
(35m 28s) Kevin:
Okay.
(35m 30s) Al:
Um, So I, I, I feel like that was deliberate, like they wanted that to be for the one.0 release.
(35m 31s) Kevin:
Oh, hold on.
(35m 37s)
Yeah, I can see that to really feel like the cherry on top or the full release.
(35m 41s) Al:
Yeah.
(35m 42s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(35m 43s)
Okay, I get it.
(35m 43s)
Okay.
(35m 44s)
Well, look, I’m, I’m, like I said, I think, I don’t know what is.
(35m 47s)
Maybe just because it feels too close to Stardew, I’m a little more hesitant, but I’m sure it’s going to be.
(35m 50s) Al:
Yeah, I mean, I get that, but it’s it’s really well done.
(35m 54s)
It is a star you like.
(35m 55s) Kevin:
It is.
(35m 56s) Al:
100% is a star you like.
(35m 57s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(35m 58s) Al:
I don’t think it, I don’t think it.
(36m)
I think it would be silly to try and pretend it’s not, but it’s a really well done star, do you like?
(36m 2s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(36m 5s) Al:
It’s just it’s just solid.
(36m 6s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(36m 6s) Al:
It’s like, and the thing is, like, Stardew was a harvest moonlight, but it was a really well done harvest moonlight.
(36m 12s)
So that can work sometimes. And I know that we quite often say there’s too many games coming out.
(36m 16s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(36m 17s) Al:
You need to have a, here’s why this is interesting over other ones, but very occasionally you can just be really good at it and that’s enough.
(36m 21s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(36m 25s)
Yeah, yeah, because you know what, that’s hard too, right?
(36m 28s) Al:
Yeah.
(36m 28s) Kevin:
like executing really well.
(36m 30s)
that can be that’s hard.
(36m 31s) Al:
Yeah.
(36m 31s) Kevin:
So if they are executing
(36m 33s)
well, you know, fine, good for them.
(36m 34s)
Yeah, like, I’m not trying to, to, uh, uh, like, I’m not trying to say it’s bad by any means.
(36m 41s)
Like, it looks fine, looks great.
(36m 42s)
I don’t know.
(36m 43s)
Like, when I just think about, I was just much more excited about it.
(36m 46s) Al:
Yeah, no, that’s fair.
(36m 47s)
It’s very more different, so I can see why it would be more interesting in some way.
(36m 49s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(36m 49s)
Yeah.
(36m 50s)
Yeah, that’s it.
(36m 52s)
But no, it looks fine.
(36m 53s)
I don’t see anything wrong with it per se so.
(36m 55s)
Good for you, Fields.
(36m 56s)
Hitting the one point on the 2 year anniversary.
(36m 58s)
That’s cute.
(36m 58s)
I like that.
(36m 59s)
That’s good.
(36m 59s)
Um.
(37m) Al:
And over Magica has been adding a whole bunch of stuff for their one.
Ova Magica
(37m 4s) Al:
0.0.
(37m 4s)
Obviously, they’re adding quests and and some a new blob world with more blobs.
(37m 12s)
They’ve added marriage in as well, a bunch of extra quests, more story, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
(37m 19s)
Plus new languages and steam achievement.
(37m 22s) Kevin:
Sick.
(37m 23s)
Ova Magico is not on the wholesome direct, actually, I believe, which is kind of wild.
(37m 26s) Al:
It was not.
(37m 27s)
No, this was a, this was a pre-wholesome direct…
(37m 31s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s cool.
(37m 33s)
Get that cow slime.
(37m 35s) Al:
I don’t think any of us chose it in the draft, so that was a, that was a drop on us.
(37m 35s) Kevin:
And those other slime.
(37m 39s) Al:
We should have, because I was, you know, I would have been surprised if this one.
(37m 42s) Kevin:
I wasn’t thinking about it.
(37m 43s) Al:
hadn’t come out this year because it’s been it’s been a while.
(37m 46s)
Been 2 years as well.
(37m 47s) Kevin:
I like the turtle slime.
(37m 48s) Al:
I got to play this at some point.
(37m 49s) Kevin:
Oh, cool.
(37m 51s) Al:
Got to play it at some point.
(37m 51s) Kevin:
Slides are cute.
(37m 54s)
I mean, like, I’d look at him like, yeah, but I see the slime’s like, oh, okay, but maybe though.
(37m 59s) Al:
Yeah.
(37m 59s) Kevin:
All right.
(38m) Al:
That’s the thing.
(38m 1s) Kevin:
What else we got?
(38m 1s) Al:
That’s well, that’s that’s the thing.
(38m 3s)
That, their selling point.
(38m 4s)
The slimes are cute.
(38m 5s)
I like the cross, I like the cross bleeding, the cross bleeding.
(38m 6s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah, you know that’s, you know, it works.
(38m 10s) Al:
The crossbreeding, I think, is the thing that really gets me with this.
(38m 13s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(38m 13s) Al:
I love I love creature collection.
(38m 16s) Kevin:
It is.
(38m 17s)
It’s good.
Lou’s Lagoon
(38m 20s) Al:
All right, we have some other releases.
(38m 21s)
So we’ve got Lou’s Lagoon, which is a delivery game with a seaplane.
(38m 31s)
We’ve talked about it a few times, but not a huge amount.
(38m 33s)
Anyway, they are coming out on the 27th of August.
(38m 36s)
So that’s a full release with no early access.
(38m 40s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s um, yeah, sorry.
(38m 43s)
Okay, I was just trying to remember.
(38m 44s)
Okay, yes, yeah, that’s the one that I was thinking, yeah, but uh, Mika already happened.
(38m 51s) Al:
I think there are a lot of similarities, but there’s also a lot of differences that I think there’s more to this one. and it’s more, there’s more other forms of traversal as well.
(38m 56s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(38m 56s)
No, it is.
(38m 58s)
It is.
(39m 3s)
Traversal.
(39m 3s) Al:
And there’s like, you know, house building and stuff like that.
(39m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah, absolutely.
(39m 7s) Al:
I think.
(39m 8s)
It’s not, I don’t think it’s survival.
(39m 8s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(39m 10s) Al:
They call it exploration and crafting.
(39m 13s)
So that’s different from survival, which I like because I think whenever somebody says cosy and survival, I say what you’re talking about.
(39m 21s)
So, um, you know, survival is not cosy.
(39m 22s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(39m 25s) Al:
It will never be cosy.
(39m 27s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(39m 27s) Al:
But exploration and crafting, you know, different.
(39m 27s) Kevin:
Minecraft, as much as I.
(39m 30s)
Yeah, Minecraft as low stress as it can be and you think of the kids game, it is not cosy.
(39m 36s) Al:
No, not at all.
(39m 36s) Kevin:
Not one bit, let me tell you.
(39m 38s)
As soon as night hits, it’s over, man.
(39m 41s)
hiding in a hole all night long.
(39m 45s) Al:
So that’s coming out on the 27th of August.
Dragon Shelter
(39m 47s) Al:
Dragon shelter have announced that they’re coming out on the 24th of September.
(39m 51s)
So this one, this one is farming, but also dragons.
(39m 56s) Kevin:
Yes.
(39m 57s)
Okay, 1st just quick side note.
(39m 59s)
Um, do we have any?
(40m)
well maybe we’ll get to it.
(40m 1s)
Does anyone have the guts to go against in November?
(40m 4s)
Has anyone announced November?
(40m 5s) Al:
There are, I don’t think there’s any that we’re talking about, but I have seen a couple of things that have announced for November.
(40m 12s)
There was, um, uh, there was a Barbie remake, uh, a bunch of, and Godzilla.
(40m 18s) Kevin:
Yeah, Barbie and Godzilla.
(40m 19s)
those are the two.
(40m 20s) Al:
That was the other one.
(40m 20s)
The 22 remakes and remasters, whatever you want to call them.
(40m 23s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(40m 24s)
Yeah.
(40m 25s) Al:
The Barbie one is funny because it’s like, I think it’s 10 different games from the last 30 years.
(40m 29s) Kevin:
Yeah, it is.
(40m 31s)
Yeah, that’s insane.
(40m 32s) Al:
Which is like, wow, I didn’t realise there were so many Barbie games, but they’re like, they go back to the Nez.
(40m 34s) Kevin:
And you.
(40m 38s)
Yeah, I mean, dude’s Barbie.
(40m 40s)
Yeah.
(40m 42s)
And I mean, oh, yeah, I mean, you know, this greenhouse, but yeah, Godzilla looks great.
(40m 47s)
Anyways, I was just wondering about wholesome direct, because we’re talking all these dates and not just wholesome direct, you know, in general, everyone’s terrified of November, even though it’s not, even though it won’t happen.
(40m 54s) Al:
Yeah, I’ve, well, that’s the, that’s the thing.
(40m 57s)
Like they’re scared of they’re scared of a month when the game’s not going to come out.
(41m 1s) Kevin:
See, they’re scared of the shadow of GTA 6 when GTA 6 isn’t there.
(41m 3s) Al:
Yeah.
(41m 6s) Kevin:
Uh.
(41m 6s) Al:
And of course, they’re all going to announce a date next year when that’s when it’ll actually come out.
(41m 11s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(41m 13s)
Oh, at this point they should just shadow drop and just destroy games.
(41m 19s)
Okay.
(41m 19s) Al:
That would be so…
(41m 20s) Kevin:
Anyway, sorry.
(41m 21s)
Dragon shelter.
(41m 23s)
looks great, actually.
(41m 24s)
Um, farming but dragons.
(41m 25s) Al:
Yeah.
(41m 25s)
It looks it looks well done as well.
(41m 26s) Kevin:
The dragons, well…
(41m 28s)
Yeah, yeah.
(41m 28s) Al:
Like the graphics look nice.
(41m 30s)
I think a lot of it.
(41m 30s) Kevin:
I can’t remember.
(41m 32s)
I can’t remember the last time I saw it, but it looks a lot better than I remember like visually.
(41m 36s) Al:
Yeah, I think so.
(41m 36s) Kevin:
looks very impressive to be, Frank.
(41m 37s)
Um, and the dragons help you farm and cook and do stuff, which is what I want with when you have creatures in your farming game.
(41m 45s)
So, I’m interested actually.
(41m 48s)
Yeah, looks fun.
(41m 48s)
And you get different kinds of dragons and stuff.
(41m 50s)
So, yeah.
Usagi Shima
(41m 52s) Al:
And Usagishima, bunny game, have has, has, we knew it was coming to steam, but we didn’t have a date.
(41m 53s) Kevin:
Help.
(41m 59s) Al:
Now we have a date.
(42m)
Well, we have a month.
(42m)
It’s coming out in October.
(42m 3s) Kevin:
Okay.
(42m 4s)
Bunnies, yeah.
(42m 5s)
I mean, that’s that is just the release, right?
(42m 6s)
Or like re-released or whatever you want to call it.
(42m 8s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
(42m 8s)
Yeah.
(42m 8s)
It’s already on iOS, Android, and I think Switch, and this is just they’re bringing it to Steam as well, which is interesting because I had a look.
(42m 9s) Kevin:
the same game.
(42m 15s)
Yeah.
(42m 18s) Al:
They announced it 2 years ago that it was coming to steam.
(42m 21s) Kevin:
That’s kind of wild that took that long.
(42m 23s) Al:
Yeah, 2 years.
(42m 24s)
That’s madness.
(42m 27s) Kevin:
That is menace.
(42m 28s)
James cute.
(42m 29s)
We had did an episode.
(42m 30s)
It was Maddie and I can’t remember who else, um, but very, very, very game.
(42m 33s) Al:
Yeah, I think.
(42m 34s) Kevin:
Was it?
(42m 37s) Al:
Look, I played it, so I probably did the bottom the episode on it.
(42m 39s) Kevin:
That’s probably you then.
(42m 40s) Al:
I’m not going to play a game and then not do the episode on it.
(42m 42s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(42m 42s) Al:
I got to get the content.
(42m 44s) Kevin:
It’s probably you.
(42m 46s)
Um.
(42m 47s) Al:
Oh no, it was me and Cody.
(42m 48s)
It wasn’t Maddie.
(42m 49s) Kevin:
Whatever, it’s fine.
(42m 50s)
Either way, um.
(42m 51s) Al:
Too many episodes to remember everything, let’s be honest.
(42m 53s) Kevin:
Too many episodes.
(42m 54s)
Bunnies.
(42m 55s)
It looks cute.
(42m 56s)
It’s a great game.
(42m 57s)
out.
(42m 59s)
Okay, what’s next?
(43m) Al:
We have 2 early access announced.
Romestead
(43m 2s) Al:
We have Romestead.
(43m 4s)
So this is the game where you’re in the downfall of Rome.
(43m 9s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(43m 10s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, Rome has fallen, rebuild civilisation.
(43m 12s)
So that they’ve announced their early access is coming.
(43m 16s)
Oh, it’s out now.
(43m 17s)
released on the 26th of May.
(43m 20s) Kevin:
Um, sure.
(43m 22s)
I don’t know, like.
(43m 23s) Al:
It’s a it’s a little less cottage core than most of the things we talk about.
(43m 24s) Kevin:
It’s it’s it’s.
(43m 28s) Al:
It’s not… Cam.
(43m 29s) Kevin:
It’s more farming simulator.
(43m 31s) Al:
It, yeah.
(43m 31s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(43m 33s) Al:
But it’s also like fight hordes of the Walking Dead, right?
(43m 37s)
Like, it’s a zombie game, apparently.
(43m 40s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(43m 41s)
Oh wait, I was thinking of a different one.
(43m 43s)
Wait, no, there’s not the game I was thinking about.
(43m 46s)
Never mind.
(43m 46s)
Um, was I thinking of that Egypt game maybe?
(43m 49s) Al:
Oh, were you thinking of the?
(43m 49s) Kevin:
Never mind.
(43m 50s)
Sorry.
(43m 51s) Al:
Yeah, that’s the ancient farm?
(43m 54s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s the one.
(43m 55s)
Okay.
(43m 55s)
Oh yeah, whoa, whoa.
(43m 56s) Al:
No, this is this is different.
(43m 57s) Kevin:
This is very different.
(43m 59s)
There’s a giant century robot spinning.
(44m 1s)
What does it go?
(44m 2s)
Oh yeah, no, this is more vampire survivor.
(44m 7s) Al:
Well.
(44m 8s) Kevin:
These graphics are good actually.
(44m 8s) Al:
Yeah, it’s I don’t see vampire survivors.
(44m 12s)
That makes well, that will make people think of something very different.
(44m 12s) Kevin:
No, no, no.
(44m 14s)
It is, yes.
(44m 15s) Al:
This looks good.
(44m 15s)
Vampire survivors looks ugly.
(44m 16s) Kevin:
Yeah, there, there.
(44m 18s) Al:
This does not.
(44m 20s) Kevin:
Well, too.
(44m 22s) Al:
No, I think it’s kind of, it’s kind of star geographics-ish, um, and there is a settlement building part of it, but also there’s a lot of combat.
(44m 30s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(44m 31s)
It feels tower defense-y, like actually defending your settlement from Fords.
(44m 31s) Al:
It’s more kind of
(44m 35s)
Kind of, yeah.
(44m 37s) Kevin:
Like, but you’re not just setting up so like you’re out there actively fighting, but there’s a lot of combat.
(44m 41s) Al:
You are.
(44m 42s) Kevin:
Majority of this is combat in this trailer.
(44m 44s)
Um, Cool.
(44m 45s) Al:
It’s it’s definitely borrowed a line for the podcast.
(44m 48s)
But it felt close enough, and we didn’t have enough games to talk about.
(44m 49s) Kevin:
It is.
(44m 51s)
Yeah.
Mazey Village
(44m 55s) Al:
Speaking of having too many games to talk about, Maisie Village, have also announced their early access is coming in August.
(44m 59s) Kevin:
Not the mouse.
(45m 2s) Al:
Maisie Village is a cosy town restoring adventure where the tornado scatters homes, villages, and their precious belongings.
(45m 3s) Kevin:
Uh, this is, oh, yeah, that…
(45m 9s)
Oh, yeah, yeah, I remember the tornado with the face.
(45m 12s)
very cute.
(45m 12s)
Yeah.
(45m 13s)
Sure.
(45m 15s)
Okay.
(45m 16s) Al:
That is coming to early access in August.
(45m 16s) Kevin:
Like other.
(45m 17s)
Okay.
(45m 18s) Al:
All right, take a breather.
Game Updates
(45m 20s) Al:
That’s all the releases.
(45m 22s)
Next, we have game updates.
(45m 26s)
First up, not in the wholesome direct, but maybe a week ago or so, Disney Dreamlight Valley released a new update.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
(45m 34s) Al:
A hero’s journey is out now, and it’s got Hercules.
(45m 39s) Kevin:
I like I like Hercules.
(45m 41s)
I like that movie.
(45m 42s)
It’s good.
(45m 44s)
Yeah, I would.
(45m 45s) Al:
That’s a hot take there.
(45m 48s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(45m 49s)
It’s it’s got her.
(45m 52s)
It’s got Phil, is Meg in it?
(45m 54s)
I don’t think she’s, I don’t see her.
(45m 54s) Al:
I don’t think so.
(45m 56s) Kevin:
Well, never mind then.
(45m 59s)
No, Herk himself’s fun.
(46m 2s)
Um, the Greek, you know, the Greek, uh, aesthetics.
(46m 9s)
Um, or no Hades too.
(46m 12s)
Actually, that’s kind of crazy.
(46m 13s)
Um, that’s for the 2nd Turcules update, I guess.
(46m 17s) Al:
Uh, Hades was in a previous update.
(46m 19s) Kevin:
Oh, oh, whoops.
(46m 21s) Al:
Yeah, we got Hades before we got Hercules.
(46m 21s) Kevin:
Well, oh, okay.
(46m 22s)
Yeah, you know what?
(46m 24s)
That’s a that’s an okay choice.
(46m 26s)
That’s logical.
(46m 26s)
I’d do that too.
(46m 27s) Al:
He was in, there was a, the storybook veil was one of the update, one of the DLCs and he was the kind of main villain in that…
(46m 32s) Kevin:
Okay.
(46m 35s)
Sure.
(46m 39s)
Okay, cool.
Star Birds
(46m 40s) Al:
Next up, starboard, Kevin.
(46m 42s) Kevin:
That, uh, starboard.
(46m 42s) Al:
Lava on, they’ve announced their lava and logistics update, which is out now, and they have said our hottest update before the full release.
(46m 53s) Kevin:
Eh, eh, eh, eh.
(46m 55s) Al:
So we’re getting close.
(46m 56s)
So this is not the same thing as an announcement of a one.
(46m 59s)
Oh, but it is the announcement of the theory of this is the hottest update.
(47m 4s) Kevin:
No.
(47m 5s) Al:
I don’t know whether that means like the last big update.
(47m 9s)
That feels like what they’re implying, but also is it just a pun and the fact that this is about hot, but is it just a pun or is it more than that?
(47m 13s) Kevin:
It’s just a pun.
(47m 14s)
Yes.
(47m 16s)
Yes.
(47m 17s)
It, it is, uh, Plausibly deniably upon.
(47m 18s) Al:
Like, because hottest can mean multiple things.
(47m 25s)
Anyway, lava and logistics.
(47m 28s)
This is bringing a new source system.
(47m 30s)
It’s also bringing lava, heat and cooling systems.
(47m 35s)
Plus Mac support.
(47m 36s)
Woo, and controller and steam deck support.
(47m 40s)
Woo.
(47m 41s) Kevin:
Oh, oh, I like that. Controllers board.
(47m 43s)
that’s nice
(47m 44s)
Uh, uh, I just hope, uh, you know, I’ll probably check in when one.
(47m 50s)
0 drops.
(47m 51s)
Uh, I hope they fix the bigger issue because, you know, they’re adding content and systems and that’s fine and dandy.
(47m 52s) Al:
Yeah.
(47m 57s) Kevin:
Not quite hitting the week, the areas they think it needs to work on, but maybe they’ve been working.
(48m 3s)
I haven’t paid too close attention, so we’ll see.
(48m 4s) Al:
I, I don’t think they,
(48m 7s) Kevin:
Yeah, I don’t think so either.
(48m 9s)
I’m trying to be optimistic.
(48m 9s) Al:
I’m not, I don’t, in any of these updates.
(48m 11s) Kevin:
I love the art.
(48m 12s)
Yeah.
(48m 13s) Al:
In any of these updates, I’ve not seen anything about story or bigger things.
(48m 17s) Kevin:
Yeah, the art looks great.
(48m 19s)
It hurt.
(48m 19s) Al:
It’s all just more of the same.
(48m 23s) Kevin:
The art looks great though.
(48m 24s)
I love it.
(48m 25s)
It’s cute.
(48m 26s) Al:
Yeah, it does.
(48m 27s)
and this is and I love Kurt’s Gizat in general.
(48m 30s)
I love their videos.
(48m 31s)
I love their art style.
(48m 32s)
I love their fun.
(48m 33s)
I just feel like there’s something missing.
(48m 37s) Kevin:
Yep.
(48m 38s)
Yep.
(48m 39s)
Oh.
To Pixelia
(48m 41s) Al:
Next up, 2 Pixelia have announced their one.
(48m 44s)
One.27 update.
(48m 46s)
This brings a new job, new languages and cloud save.
(48m 49s)
Why did you not have cloud saver ready?
(48m 52s)
Like, this game isn’t in early access.
(48m 55s)
Why do you not have it cloud safe before now?
(48m 59s) Kevin:
Find the world.
(49m) Al:
But I still don’t see controller support.
(49m 3s) Kevin:
Wamp, wamp.
(49m 4s) Al:
Maybe next.
(49m 4s) Kevin:
Well, um.
(49m 6s) Al:
Maybe next time.
(49m 6s) Kevin:
Ah, you can be a real estate agent, aren’t you?
(49m 12s) Al:
I was excited for this game.
(49m 14s)
They just don’t let me play it because they still don’t have control of support.
(49m 18s)
Give me controller support.
(49m 19s)
Star birds have done it.
(49m 21s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s true.
(49m 22s)
Then we’ll talk.
(49m 23s)
Yeah, hitting one.
(49m 24s) Al:
And that’s a difficult one.
(49m 25s)
I bet I bet that was a difficult one to get control support good on because it’s quite a mouse focussed.
(49m 25s) Kevin:
Oh.
(49m 29s)
Yeah, I bet it was.
(49m 30s)
Yeah, and nobody’s saying it is good though, right now either.
Discounty
(49m 37s) Kevin:
Oh.
(49m 37s) Al:
Well, Kevin, Descounty, have announced an update as well.
(49m 41s) Kevin:
Yeah, okay, yeah.
(49m 41s) Al:
This is the people or profit update.
(49m 43s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s, it’s, uh, this is a, uh, actually probably, yes, and it’s out already, which is kind of wild.
(49m 44s) Al:
You going back to it for this?
(49m 51s)
Yeah, shadow dropped in the Wholesome Direct.
(49m 51s) Kevin:
It’s shadow dropping.
(49m 52s)
Um.
(49m 53s) Al:
There you go.
(49m 54s)
Have a little update for you.
(49m 55s)
Little tasty update.
(49m 56s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(49m 57s)
Um, so, okay, I’ll say mechanically, uh, it looks like a huge expansion.
(50m 6s) Al:
Yeah.
(50m 6s) Kevin:
1st of all, your shop, you get a whole bunch of more inventory, which does add a little bit to the game, a little bit of the puzzle and logic of it.
(50m 14s)
But also working on the rest of the town, which is one of the big like question mark.
(50m 17s) Al:
Wait, no wait, wait, wait, Kevin, Kevin, before you talked about that, you didn’t talk about the best thing.
(50m 21s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(50m 22s) Al:
Self-checkout.
(50m 26s) Kevin:
Okay, you know what would be great about self-checkout if they included the thievery problem that comes with it?
(50m 33s)
You use it, but you lose profits.
(50m 33s) Al:
Look, look, this is the thing, Kevin.
(50m 37s)
This is the thing.
(50m 37s) Kevin:
Yeah, yeah.
(50m 38s) Al:
I wouldn’t want to play this game until they brought out this and I’m like, suddenly I’m interested in this game now.
(50m 44s) Kevin:
Oh, but it’s going to be a late game.
(50m 47s)
You’re gonna have to, you’re gonna have to work your way forward.
(50m 48s) Al:
Yeah, I know, I know.
(50m 50s)
It really shouldn’t be, but yes, you’re right.
(50m 52s)
Oh.
(50m 54s)
Give me the good gameplay features up early, please.
(50m 57s)
Don’t make me go through the game when I don’t want to just to get the features so that I want to play.
(51m 1s)
Ugh.
(51m 2s)
Sorry, continue.
(51m 3s) Kevin:
No, no.
(51m 4s) Al:
Yes building up the town.
(51m 6s) Kevin:
One of my favourite things in Pokemon Champions.
(51m 11s) Al:
Where are we going with this?
(51m 11s) Kevin:
It’s tangent, but you’ll see where I’m going here.
(51m 13s)
Okay, Mega Flowet.
(51m 13s) Al:
What’s happening?
(51m 16s) Kevin:
Mega Flouette is a big problem in champions.
(51m 19s)
Um, right?
(51m 21s)
as you can imagine.
(51m 22s)
And you know how to get Mega Fluette.
(51m 23s)
You have to beat ZA and, you know, do some postgame.
(51m 26s)
Um, so it’s just very funny to see people talking, complaining about Mega Fluet, that it’s a Pokemon locked behind gameplay.
(51m 35s) Al:
Ah.
(51m 37s) Kevin:
Anyways, anyways, that…
(51m 39s) Al:
Paige Pokemon.
(51m 40s)
I do find, like, I, I, I, I understand the concept, but it’s very funny in that context because it’s like, oh, Pokemon locks behind Pokemon gameplay, right?
(51m 41s) Kevin:
Anyways.
(51m 48s)
It is.
(51m 51s) Al:
Like, it’s not like it’s it’s not like it fundamentally changes anything.
(51m 52s) Kevin:
That’s correct.
(51m 53s)
Yeah that’s correct.
(51m 56s) Al:
It’s like, do you like Pokemon or not?
(51m 57s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(51m 58s) Al:
It’s different.
(51m 59s) Kevin:
Yeah, mhm.
(52m 1s) Al:
It’s different when you’re playing a game and you’re like, oh, some of these mechanics are not huge fan of, but mechanics that come later on, I would prefer, and I wish I could get them quicker.
(52m 7s) Kevin:
Yes.
(52m 9s)
Yes, absolutely.
(52m 10s) Al:
That’s that’s one thing.
(52m 11s)
But it’s another thing saying, I want to get the Pokemon without playing the Pokemon.
(52m 11s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(52m 16s)
Yeah, yeah, that’s correct.
(52m 17s)
Oh my gosh, yes.
(52m 19s)
No, yeah, no, no, I get it.
(52m 20s)
Like, I’m not.
(52m 21s)
I’m not heckling you here because I get why you’d want that.
(52m 23s) Al:
Yeah, yeah.
(52m 23s) Kevin:
Yeah, self-checkout’s a big deal.
(52m 25s)
They do have online orders.
(52m 27s)
That’s pretty cool.
(52m 28s) Al:
Nice.
(52m 28s) Kevin:
Um, just more for you to do in the store.
(52m 30s)
I think that’s it’s a fun little challenge.
(52m 32s)
Um, uh, yeah, no, I mean, mechanically looks great.
(52m 36s)
The town.
(52m 37s)
So the town was very run down and and tatter, and there was discussion of that, and it really felt like fixing up the town.
(52m 44s)
It was going to be part of the game, and you know, it’s kind of a staple in these sorts of games, and it looks like we’re finally going to get there, which is very cool.
(52m 51s)
Um, there’s new characters that’s exciting.
(52m 56s)
Um, we’ve got, yeah, just a whole bunch of new stuff.
(53m)
Um, house stuff.
(53m 2s)
I don’t care much about the house.
(53m 6s)
Um, and most importantly, the story stuff, um, like I mentioned, um, when I talked about that episode.
(53m 13s)
Uh, the weakest part was the ending, left a lot, uh, just loose threads and and places that could have gone.
(53m 18s) Al:
Mm-hmm.
(53m 22s) Kevin:
I think they’re finally going to go there fully.
(53m 24s)
So that’s exciting.
(53m 25s) Al:
Well, they did say this is the final story, the final chapter with 3 new endings.
(53m 31s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(53m 33s) Al:
My question is, do you feel like this should have been a one.
(53m 35s)
0.0.
(53m 35s)
Like, is this late update?
(53m 37s) Kevin:
Yes, yes, honestly, it should be because, you know, the one.
(53m 42s)
should always feel complete, right?
(53m 44s)
Like fully packaged.
(53m 44s) Al:
Yep.
(53m 45s)
We’ve talked about that.
(53m 45s) Kevin:
This doesn’t feel, yeah.
(53m 46s) Al:
We’ve talked about the differences between like, you know, what Stardew did and what other games do.
(53m 51s)
like they’re different.
(53m 52s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(53m 52s)
Yeah. Yeah.
(53m 54s)
I mean, they call it the 4th chapter in which, you know, yeah, and yeah, that 4th chapter does not feel like an extra thing.
(53m 59s)
It feels like the missing 4th chapter.
(54m 1s)
Um, this should have been the one.
(54m 2s) Al:
Yeah.
(54m 2s) Kevin:
Um, Grant, you know, mechanically, the game was fine, but story wise, it, it, this, this 4th chapter is needed.
(54m 10s)
So yeah, so this is the real one point.
(54m 11s) Al:
It’s not, it’s, it’s not even like it’s been a huge amount of time.
(54m 15s)
It’s less than a year since the 1st version came out.
(54m 17s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(54m 17s) Al:
So like if they had done early access, it wouldn’t have felt like a super long early access.
(54m 18s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(54m 22s)
No, no.
(54m 22s) Al:
Like that would have been a really quick early access compared to lots of people.
(54m 24s) Kevin:
Um.
(54m 25s)
Yeah, yeah.
(54m 26s) Al:
I guess, I don’t know, maybe maybe they just maybe they get more money if they don’t do alley access, but then you have the…
(54m 27s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(54m 33s)
Yeah, I mean.
(54m 33s) Al:
I mean, it’s worked out for them.
(54m 34s)
Their reviews are very positive.
(54m 36s)
It’s been a very successful game.
(54m 37s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(54m 38s)
It it is and.
(54m 38s) Al:
They have they have nearly one.
(54m 41s)
5000 reviews.
(54m 42s)
Like, that’s a lot of reviews.
(54m 43s)
They’ve sold a lot of this game.
(54m 45s) Kevin:
Yeah, and it’s 20 USD on steam, like, even if it didn’t feel complete for what was there?
(54m 50s) Al:
Yeah.
(54m 53s) Kevin:
That was a very fair price.
(54m 54s)
Um, so, you know, it maybe it was a sensible business decision to call at one.
(55m 2s)
But whatever.
(55m 3s)
I mean, it’s good, it’s done.
(55m 4s) Al:
Hard to.
(55m 4s) Kevin:
going to be here now.
(55m 5s)
The expansion and it’s not paid, right?
(55m 7s)
It’s not like DLC, like it’s just completing it.
(55m 8s) Al:
Yeah, exactly.
(55m 10s) Kevin:
So, you know, fine.
(55m 11s) Al:
The only the only thing that you can buy it outside of the game is the supporter’s back, which is just like some extra unnecessary cosmetic.
(55m 12s) Kevin:
Okay.
(55m 21s)
Yeah, whatever.
(55m 22s)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
(55m 23s) Al:
If you want a golden top hat, that’s where you get that.
(55m 23s) Kevin:
Uh, so yeah, very.
(55m 25s)
Oh, oh, you didn’t tell me that.
(55m 29s)
Um.
(55m 30s) Al:
Only 6 USD.
(55m 31s) Kevin:
Oh, um, um, we’ll see, we’ll see.
(55m 35s) Al:
Oh, in fact, it’s a recolorable tuxedo, so you can make it whatever colour you want.
(55m 36s) Kevin:
But…
(55m 40s)
Oh, man, now this feels worth it for 6 years, D.
(55m 44s) Al:
And it includes Kevin, Kevin.
(55m 44s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(55m 46s) Al:
It includes, it includes a monocle.
(55m 49s) Kevin:
Ah, I had to.
(55m 50s)
I expected it.
(55m 51s)
Good.
(55m 51s)
Okay, fine.
(55m 53s)
I’m I’m in.
(55m 53s)
Um, but, uh, uh, Monaco and Tuxedo aside, um, I’m going, uh,
(55m 58s)
I’ll absolutely be playing this, this county is a great game.
(56m 1s)
It’ll be nice to finish it now.
(56m 4s)
Um, Yeah, very curious.
(56m 7s)
There’s a cat person in this game, which I don’t know what to make of that because that isn’t in line with anything in the game previously.
(56m 18s) Al:
Why not go?
(56m 20s) Kevin:
Why not?
(56m 21s) Al:
You can upgrade your your car, your trailer with a house as well.
(56m 21s) Kevin:
Okay, discounting.
(56m 23s)
So.
(56m 24s)
Yep.
(56m 25s)
That is, I mean, well, I guess just the feeling of not living in a trailer is nice, but yeah, that’s that’s exciting.
(56m 32s)
Stay tuned.
(56m 34s)
There will be a follow-up episode, even if it’s just me again.
The Wandering Village
(56m 37s) Al:
And we also have a DLC announced for The Wandering Village called The Last Leviathan.
(56m 44s)
Set out on a new journey with the Wandering Village, the last Leviathan, build your sediment on Levi, the all-new marine creature, develop your relationship and take care of its unique needs or advantage of its new resources.
(56m 58s)
So it’s not just a cosmetic thing either.
(57m)
It is a different land.
(57m 5s) Kevin:
That’s, it’s honestly very cool because the preacher looks very cool.
(57m 10s)
I mean, it’s just, you know, just your pleesiasord, nessy sea monster thing.
(57m 13s)
Um, But the fact that you get a whole new village and resources.
(57m 14s) Al:
Yeah.
(57m 18s) Kevin:
Oh, uh,
(57m 20s) Al:
I’m hoping it goes in the water.
(57m 22s)
It looks like it goes in the water, but I don’t actually see video of,
(57m 23s) Kevin:
It does.
(57m 25s) Al:
Oh, no, there we go.
(57m 26s)
Yeah, I see the video of it now.
(57m 27s) Kevin:
Yeah, it does.
(57m 27s) Al:
Good.
(57m 28s) Kevin:
Yeah, so cool.
(57m 28s) Al:
Oh, some northern lights.
(57m 31s)
beautiful.
(57m 32s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(57m 32s)
And you see that logo with the silhouette of the monster?
(57m 35s)
like, oh, it looks great.
(57m 36s)
That’s very, very cool.
(57m 37s) Al:
Yeah.
(57m 37s)
Yeah.
(57m 38s) Kevin:
Yeah, I’m excited for that.
(57m 39s)
I haven’t played the game, but I like this this Leviathan creature.
(57m 43s) Al:
I keep I keep thinking about playing the game.
(57m 45s)
I feel like I should enjoy it, but I just never got around to playing it.
(57m 50s) Kevin:
Yeah, no, that’s fair.
(57m 51s)
Is it only, is it only one other?
(57m 52s) Al:
There’s too many games.
(57m 53s) Kevin:
Is this the 2nd one or were there any other creatures or just the one?
(57m 56s) Al:
I think this is only the 2nd creature, yeah.
(57m 59s) Kevin:
I don’t know, this feels like a thing they should do.
(58m 2s) Al:
There was there was a skin pack, so you could change the look of it, but it’s still the same creature.
(58m 6s)
It just looks different.
(58m 8s) Kevin:
Well, oh, that’s, yeah, that seems like a big thing they should have focussed on adding more of these.
(58m 14s)
Um, cool.
(58m 14s) Al:
Yeah.
(58m 16s) Kevin:
Either way, they’ve done it now.
(58m 17s)
Oh, Leviathan.
(58m 17s) Al:
Oh no, they did, they did, so they’re calling the skins different things in the other DLC.
(58m 23s)
A Zerda, the cold fired, Aloba from the desert, Kisu the Golden, Macthaja from the jungle, and Urodon the Amphibian.
(58m 35s)
So I guess maybe they are, but I don’t, I suspect it’s still just skins, it doesn’t look like they’re, you know, doing anything different mechanics wise, which this new one.
(58m 36s) Kevin:
I’m looking.
(58m 43s)
These are almost.
(58m 45s)
Yeah, and the skins aren’t that different.
(58m 48s)
It’s almost just colour palette swaps.
(58m 50s)
Um, but the same base design is there, so, yeah, no, this is different.
(58m 51s) Al:
Yeah.
(58m 52s)
Yeah.
(58m 53s)
I wouldn’t be surprised because that one came out in December, so it almost feels like this is the progression they’re doing, right?
(59m)
Like they were like, oh, what if we did this? and they’re like, well, let’s start off with just some skin differences and see if people like that.
(59m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(59m 4s)
Yeah.
(59m 6s)
Yeah.
(59m 6s) Al:
And then they went, okay, there’s enough interest.
(59m 9s)
Let’s do mechanics changes as well.
(59m 11s) Kevin:
Yeah, okay.
(59m 12s)
Yeah.
(59m 13s)
Well, hey, you know what?
(59m 14s)
This is kind of cool.
(59m 16s)
There might be a flying one.
(59m 17s)
This this is a way to get me more interested in the game.
(59m 20s) Al:
Yeah.
(59m 20s) Kevin:
Um, Cool.
(59m 22s)
Want to go, good for you.
(59m 23s)
More monsters, please.
(59m 24s)
Thank you.
New Games
(59m 25s) Al:
All right, our final section, no, our not our final section, our 2nd last section is the new games.
(59m 31s)
We have one.
(59m 35s)
8 games to talk about here, Kevin.
(59m 37s)
Eight new games to talk about.
Spirit Crossing
(59m 40s) Al:
Oh, boy.
(59m 41s)
First up, we have Spirit Crossing.
(59m 43s)
Rebuild the connection between worlds and Spirit Crossing, a collaborative life sim MMO.
(59m 49s)
From the makers of Cosy Grove.
(59m 51s)
Explore distant mountaintop ruins, save lost spirits, befriend tiny bears, and build sanctuaries with other players while you carve out a mount cosy mountainside home of you.
(1h 5s) Kevin:
Oh.
(1h 7s)
This feels like the wholesome direct incarnate.
(1h 11s)
So like obscenely saccharine and and just, I don’t know, it’s, it’s not doing a lot for me.
(1h 20s)
Like, it just feels like a mishmash of other stuff, but no real idea.
(1h 22s) Al:
It feels like a lot, doesn’t it?
(1h 24s)
Like it feels busy.
(1h 25s) Kevin:
Yeah, yep, there’s dancing and raising house building and fluffaloes as they call, like it’s, it’s a lot.
(1h 33s)
I don’t I don’t know.
(1h 34s)
It’s, it’s, it feels, yeah, like just a big mishmash of stuff.
(1h 38s)
Um, it’s not calling to me.
(1h 39s) Al:
I also just like the idea of a lifesim MMO.
(1h 42s)
It doesn’t fill me with excitement, but is that just because I don’t like MMOs or is it is there something weird about the combination?
(1h 45s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 50s)
It’s… What’s the advantage?
(1h 53s)
That’s the thing.
(1h 54s)
Because, like, you know, in other, you know, your traditional, let’s just do, you know, Final Fantasy or World of Warcraft, like, okay, you’re playing with a lot of people to defeat big, you know, cooperative objectives, raids, and and collections and stuff like there’s there’s things, right?
(1h 1m 10s)
And a life, Sim.
(1h 1m 12s)
What’s the advantage of of interacting with so many other people other than just showing off the house?
(1h 1m 15s) Al:
It just it just feels like co-op with extra steps, right?
(1h 1m 17s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 1m 18s) Al:
Co-op, but you you don’t get to not have it.
(1h 1m 19s) Kevin:
Yeah, so yeah.
(1h 1m 24s) Al:
That’s always the thing, the thing with MMOs for me.
(1h 1m 24s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 1m 27s) Al:
It’s like they take the concept of multiplayer and go, everyone has multiplayer, whether you want to or not.
(1h 1m 33s)
Like that, it’s it never feels to me like a selling point.
(1h 1m 35s) Kevin:
Yep.
(1h 1m 37s) Al:
But maybe that’s just me, maybe it is a selling point for people and that, I mean, there are MMOs that are very popular.
(1h 1m 41s) Kevin:
Ask.
(1h 1m 44s)
How’d 10 Tim do?
(1h 1m 46s)
Spear crossing people.
(1h 1m 47s) Al:
Well.
(1h 1m 50s)
That’s probably…
(1h 1m 52s)
That, that’s the, well, this is the problem, is that is MMOs are expensive to keep running.
(1h 1m 58s)
This is the problem with them compared to, um, compared to offline games.
(1h 1m 59s) Kevin:
Yep.
(1h 2m 4s)
A single player.
(1h 2m 4s) Al:
You have to have your servers running.
(1h 2m 5s) Kevin:
Yep.
(1h 2m 5s) Al:
And if you run out of money, game’s dead.
(1h 2m 9s) Kevin:
Yep, so I will probably not…
(1h 2m 13s)
Especially, yeah, because the game will probably die.
(1h 2m 13s) Al:
I, I, well, I, I, I, I, question is, is it going to be paid or is it going to be free to play like how, what’s the monetisation like? If it’s free to play, maybe I try it.
(1h 2m 26s)
We’ll see.
(1h 2m 28s) Kevin:
I probably won’t, even if it was.
(1h 2m 29s) Al:
Well, yeah, I probably won’t, but maybe.
(1h 2m 33s) Kevin:
The possibility would exist.
(1h 2m 33s) Al:
Maybe.
(1h 2m 36s) Kevin:
you know what?
(1h 2m 37s) Al:
Um…
(1h 2m 37s) Kevin:
I’ll give them one props
(1h 2m 39s)
Their little bears are like cube shaped.
(1h 2m 41s)
Okay, that’s nice, I guess.
(1h 2m 44s) Al:
And this is coming out sometime in 2026.
Tinkernest
(1h 2m 47s) Al:
Next up, Tinker Nest, a crafting colony sim that feels like coming home.
(1h 2m 53s)
A warm campfire, the cutest animal villagers, the curiosity of putting 2 items together and seeing what comes out.
(1h 3m 1s)
Craft, build, automate, and explore the ancient tunnels down below.
(1h 3m 6s) Kevin:
Uh, it’s fine, I guess.
(1h 3m 10s) Al:
Don’t sound so exciting.
(1h 3m 11s) Kevin:
Like, It’s, uh, it’s just, it’s just, with this barrage of games, like, it’s hard to stand out.
(1h 3m 19s)
And like, it’s got a nice soft, uh, what I call soft pixel art because there’s no uh, outlines on anything.
(1h 3m 20s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 3m 26s) Kevin:
Um, and you’re, it’s like, what, those cats, Tanukis, raccoons, something like that.
(1h 3m 31s)
I think they’re probably raccoons.
(1h 3m 32s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 3m 33s) Kevin:
Um, and you’re, you’re, they’re building up the sounds kind of cute.
(1h 3m 37s)
You’ve got them.
(1h 3m 38s)
Um, Like, I don’t know, just, just what’s the, I don’t feel the hook, I guess, that’s what I’m just trying to say.
(1h 3m 45s)
Like, I guess if you really dig these little creatures, sure.
(1h 3m 45s) Al:
So.
(1h 3m 47s)
Yeah, I think the crafting thing looks like it could be an interesting aspect.
(1h 3m 53s)
Um, it also looks like, so it says design your 3D pixel art home.
(1h 3m 59s)
This art style turns your creations into living pixel art illustrations.
(1h 4m 3s)
Build your settlements with freely rotatable buildings and decorations, look at them from every angle with photo mode.
(1h 4m 9s)
I think it sounds like you’re designing your own buildings and then it just makes thumb, like you’re using pixel art yourself to make buildings.
(1h 4m 20s) Kevin:
It doesn’t look like that in the trailer, to be very frank.
(1h 4m 23s) Al:
No, but the wording does.
(1h 4m 24s) Kevin:
Well, we have to see because that would be cool.
(1h 4m 28s)
I’d be down for that, but I.
(1h 4m 28s) Al:
Well, that’s the thing.
(1h 4m 29s)
If that’s true, if that’s true, that’s the hook.
(1h 4m 30s) Kevin:
Yeah, that would be a great hook.
(1h 4m 33s)
I just, I’m rewatching the trailer right now.
(1h 4m 36s)
I literally don’t see anything that indicates that.
(1h 4m 39s) Al:
No.
(1h 4m 39s) Kevin:
Um, so that’s, uh, we’ll see.
(1h 4m 43s) Al:
There’s like the discovery area, which is not what they’re talking about, but there’s that which is like you have a whole bunch of different crafting items and you drag them together and you make more things.
(1h 4m 53s)
almost like what was that?
(1h 4m 54s)
What was that big online thing?
(1h 4m 56s)
There was the same thing where you had like, you start with like the 3 elements.
(1h 4m 59s) Kevin:
Infinite craft.
(1h 5m)
Yeah, infinite craft.
(1h 5m) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 5m 1s)
It basically feels like that, which I think is an interesting thing to add into a game like this.
(1h 5m 7s)
Maybe.
(1h 5m 7s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 5m 8s)
Maybe.
(1h 5m 10s)
They do a, the, the description of the game you’re telling me is so different from the trailer.
(1h 5m 16s) Al:
It feels like it feels like the game could be interesting.
(1h 5m 16s) Kevin:
I want to play the game.
(1h 5m 18s)
you’re telling me about.
(1h 5m 20s) Al:
They’re just really bad at marketing it.
(1h 5m 22s) Kevin:
Maybe.
(1h 5m 23s)
Yeah, no wonder you’re more interested than me.
(1h 5m 25s)
I didn’t read that description.
(1h 5m 26s)
It’s way more interesting than what I see.
(1h 5m 29s)
Um.
(1h 5m 30s) Al:
200 plus combinations to discover for now.
(1h 5m 33s) Kevin:
That’s an okay amount.
(1h 5m 33s) Al:
Progress through multiple ages of technology.
(1h 5m 36s)
I want, I don’t think that, I think that, I think they’re mis explaining the pixel art thing.
(1h 5m 42s)
I think they’re saying when they say the art style times you’re creations into living pixel art illustrations.
(1h 5m 47s)
I think they’re just talking about the crafting.
(1h 5m 49s)
I don’t think there’s more than that.
(1h 5m 50s) Kevin:
I think so too.
(1h 5m 52s) Al:
I think it’s just bad work.
(1h 5m 54s) Kevin:
I do not think you’re drawing a house, sadly.
(1h 5m 56s) Al:
But I do find the crafting interesting.
(1h 5m 59s)
It’s different for this type of game and I think it could be interesting.
(1h 6m 5s) Kevin:
You don’t show that in the trailer either.
(1h 6m 7s)
I don’t wanna see what that looks like.
(1h 6m 9s) Al:
There is, so if you scroll down, there’s a few gifts of how…
(1h 6m 13s) Kevin:
Let me let me look at the steam page because I’m just frame by framing the trailer right now.
(1h 6m 18s) Al:
All right.
(1h 6m 18s) Kevin:
Um, so let’s see that.
(1h 6m 25s)
Oh, oh, that’s kind of cool.
(1h 6m 28s)
Okay.
(1h 6m 28s)
Oh, I see what they’re saying.
(1h 6m 30s)
Okay.
(1h 6m 31s)
Yeah, that’s kind of, yeah, you’re right.
(1h 6m 33s)
It does feel infinite craft.
(1h 6m 34s)
Put a thing over a thing and something happens.
(1h 6m 37s)
It’s not all necessarily crafting because some of it just like put the key on the cage and it unlocks the little guy inside.
(1h 6m 42s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 6m 44s) Kevin:
Okay, well, but it’s still like an intuitive just click and drag 2 things.
(1h 6m 44s) Al:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
(1h 6m 49s) Kevin:
See what happens.
(1h 6m 50s)
I do like that.
(1h 6m 50s) Al:
Yeah, and it feels like there’s something there, possibly.
(1h 6m 53s) Kevin:
Yeah, no, I agree.
(1h 6m 54s)
Okay.
(1h 6m 54s)
That is a little more interesting.
(1h 6m 56s)
Um, Okay.
(1h 6m 58s) Al:
But we’ll see.
(1h 6m 58s) Kevin:
Little raccoon guys are kind of.
(1h 6m 59s) Al:
We’ll see.
(1h 7m 1s)
Release date is to be announced.
(1h 7m 3s)
Uh, so, who knows when it’ll even come out.
In The Drift
(1h 7m 6s) Al:
Moving on. In the drift.
(1h 7m 9s)
A game about fixing the internet in space.
(1h 7m 12s)
Travel the asteroid belt and restore connections in a dreamy narrative platformer from one half of the creators of Sable.
(1h 7m 18s)
I don’t know what Sable is, so I don’t care.
(1h 7m 20s)
Also, one half of the creators of is always funny because it’s like, what if this is the bad one?
(1h 7m 26s)
Like what if there were 2 people and one of them did the whole game and the other one was not good at it?
(1h 7m 30s)
Like, that doesn’t tell you anything.
(1h 7m 32s)
I’m not saying they are.
(1h 7m 33s)
I’m just saying that’s always a possibility.
(1h 7m 36s)
Uh, this is uh, to the platforming, uh, feels kind of spirit fairersque style of platforming.
(1h 7m 49s)
I think it’s interesting.
(1h 7m 50s) Kevin:
Yeah, it’s, it’s, I don’t know, watching the trailers, okay.
(1h 7m 50s) Al:
I mean,
(1h 7m 54s) Kevin:
I don’t know nothing.
(1h 7m 55s)
It’s interesting how we’re going about these.
(1h 7m 57s)
you’re going off the steam pages of whatnot.
(1h 8m)
I’m just going off the trailer.
(1h 8m 1s)
Um, I don’t know.
(1h 8m 2s)
It looks fine.
(1h 8m 3s)
Nothing bad, but nothing really, uh, sinking my teeth into.
(1h 8m 8s) Al:
Also says 5 hours of gameplay, so I’m in.
(1h 8m 11s) Kevin:
There you go
(1h 8m 13s) Al:
Four leaf fields?
(1h 8m 14s)
Well…
(1h 8m 14s) Kevin:
This is the one with the V tuber introduction.
(1h 8m 17s) Al:
Welcome to the tiny world of 4 Leaf Fields, a cosy farming life sim where you’re no bigger than a carrot.
(1h 8m 23s)
Grow towering crops.
(1h 8m 25s)
Care for tiny farm bugs and uncover a web of secrets fuelled by gossip, solo.
(1h 8m 33s)
I find the wording is really funny because it’s like the solo art online with friends is tacked on to the end of the sentence that talks about the gossip and it, but it’s nothing to do with that.
(1h 8m 42s)
It’s just like play the game solo or online with friends.
(1h 8m 45s)
It’s like, you have to go online to get the gossip.
(1h 8m 46s) Kevin:
Yep.
(1h 8m 50s)
Uh.
(1h 8m 51s) Al:
That’s what it feels like it’s trying to say, but no.
(1h 8m 53s) Kevin:
Yeah, this.
(1h 8m 53s) Al:
I think narratively, it’s a fun, like, uh, difference.
(1h 8m 59s)
It’s like, it’s a farming game, but you’re a tiny person is fun.
(1h 9m 2s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 9m 3s) Al:
Whether that ends up actually being fun is a different question.
(1h 9m 3s) Kevin:
Yeah, that’s kind of the big thing.
(1h 9m 6s)
Yeah, um, Yeah, that is the question, right?
(1h 9m 10s)
Um, I think the tiny farming is kind of cool.
(1h 9m 14s)
The gossip thing’s kind of novel.
(1h 9m 16s)
I dont know how well it’ll work, but I don’t know.
(1h 9m 19s)
We’ll see how the tiny farm thing works might be good.
(1h 9m 22s)
Might not.
(1h 9m 23s)
I don’t know.
(1h 9m 23s)
Um, yeah.
(1h 9m 24s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 9m 25s) Kevin:
Uh, let’s see, what a.
(1h 9m 26s) Al:
Look, I want my farm of ladybirds.
(1h 9m 28s) Kevin:
Yeah, one day, that’s that’s the dream, right?
(1h 9m 33s) Al:
They look cute.
(1h 9m 34s)
I’m intrigued by this one.
(1h 9m 36s)
I think I’ll play this.
(1h 9m 37s) Kevin:
I’ll I’ll wait to hear what you think before. I dive in.
(1h 9m 41s) Al:
Cheat. Croakwood.
Croakwood
(1h 9m 45s) Al:
Welcome to Croakwood, a relaxed town building and management game where tiny frogs settle into life in the wild woods, design and create structures, plan and decorate your town, explore an ancient forest filled with secrets, and guide a charming frog community as it…
(1h 10m 5s) Kevin:
Yeah, uh, this one looks all right, in my opinion, it’s, it’s fabled them, but frogs.
(1h 10m 11s)
It’s it’s frog, froggle them.
(1h 10m 13s)
Um, that’s it’s really, I think, the best way to put it.
(1h 10m 16s)
Um, the art styles.
(1h 10m 17s) Al:
Frogs is fun, frogs are always fun.
(1h 10m 19s) Kevin:
Frogs are fun.
(1h 10m 20s)
They’re cute.
(1h 10m 21s)
I don’t know if you’ll like it out because.
(1h 10m 22s) Al:
I’m not sure that’s how frogs are meant to walk, but
(1h 10m 25s) Kevin:
Um, We’ve, uh,
(1h 10m 28s) Al:
The graphics look fun.
(1h 10m 29s)
I’m not playing this one.
(1h 10m 33s) Kevin:
Yeah, it’s, it’s just, it’s a management game like,
(1h 10m 38s)
I might, though.
(1h 10m 39s)
Uh, I said, looks like Bable them frogs.
(1h 10m 43s) Al:
This is also released to be announced, but…
(1h 10m 51s) Kevin:
Yeah, oh, oh, I’m gonna play it now.
(1h 10m 53s)
I’m just saying, baby, when it comes out.
(1h 10m 57s) Al:
Spirits, spirits, stead, by the way, dies a really hard name to say, spirits dead.
(1h 11m 4s)
The extra, the 2 the S, surrounded by teas, is bad for my mouth.
(1h 11m 4s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 11m 13s)
Yeah.
(1h 11m 13s)
And it’s Spirity, the Pokemon.
(1h 11m 18s) Al:
A city builder set in a world of magic.
(1h 11m 22s)
Build a village and care for the people who live there with the help of a hidden with the help of hidden spirits, you discover along the way.
(1h 11m 29s)
Watch your town grow and flourish as you expand, create, and decorate.
(1h 11m 33s) Kevin:
Uh, it feels fine.
(1h 11m 33s) Al:
Okay.
(1h 11m 36s) Kevin:
It feels, again, kind of.
(1h 11m 37s) Al:
Nothing stands out.
(1h 11m 39s) Kevin:
Not really, it’s town building management just like the last one, but it’s not frogs.
(1h 11m 44s)
Art styles.
(1h 11m 45s)
Okay, it’s not bad.
(1h 11m 46s)
It’s nice, but like, I don’t know, nothing real, it’s nothing stand out.
(1h 11m 49s)
Like they have these spirits and I don’t know if those are their actual names with goofy little cutesy names, but uh, Nothing, uh.
(1h 12m)
Uh, no.
(1h 12m 3s) Al:
Again, no release date known for this one.
(1h 12m 6s)
All right.
(1h 12m 7s)
Actually, no, I’m going to put that one to the last.
(1h 12m 11s) Kevin:
Yes.
(1h 12m 11s)
Oh, hey, wait 12nd.
(1h 12m 13s)
So that’s a lot more games in this wholesome direct.
(1h 12m 15s)
Um, a lot more.
(1h 12m 16s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 12m 17s)
Yeah.
(1h 12m 17s) Kevin:
Do you want to cover any of them or could you, should I bring them or?
(1h 12m 21s) Al:
If you think there’s games that work for the podcast that I’ve missed, then sure. But only if they’re like,
(1h 12m 25s) Kevin:
I think so.
(1h 12m 26s)
But, yeah, I, the problem is, like, I don’t remember because, like, Moonlight Peaks, we’ve talked about that.
(1h 12m 31s)
I don’t even think there was a date for that.
(1h 12m 32s) Al:
Yeah, I’m only talking about things where there’s actual news.
(1h 12m 33s) Kevin:
It’s just true.
(1h 12m 34s)
Okay, sure.
(1h 12m 34s) Al:
Let’s put it that way.
(1h 12m 36s)
So like, yeah, there’s a bunch of stuff that’s like, oh, there’s game.
(1h 12m 36s) Kevin:
Fair enough.
(1h 12m 37s)
Um,
(1h 12m 39s) Al:
It exists, by the way.
(1h 12m 40s)
And you’re like, yeah, yeah, we know that.
(1h 12m 41s)
Thanks.
(1h 12m 42s)
I’ll get it when I get it.
(1h 12m 43s) Kevin:
Did we talk about deer and boy?
(1h 12m 43s) Al:
I didn’t really, what was, what was?
(1h 12m 47s)
I saw it, but I didn’t think it really fit in it.
(1h 12m 51s) Kevin:
Um, well, no, it’s it’s not farming.
(1h 12m 52s) Al:
poetic cinematic platform or run a, no.
(1h 12m 54s) Kevin:
It’s not cottage core.
(1h 12m 54s) Al:
That’s the thing.
(1h 12m 55s) Kevin:
You got a point like it’s.
(1h 12m 55s) Al:
We can’t talk about everything.
(1h 12m 57s)
It was an hour long.
(1h 12m 58s)
We’d spend forever talking about things if we talked about…
(1h 12m 59s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 12m 59s)
You got a point.
(1h 13m 1s)
Yeah, like I just assume everything, but you’re right.
(1h 13m 3s)
Now, a lot of this isn’t exactly like the tail is sick, you.
(1h 13m 6s)
I am excited about that one.
(1h 13m 7s)
But we already talked about that.
(1h 13m 8s) Al:
Yeah, I don’t think there was any news there though, because we already knew that that was…
(1h 13m 9s) Kevin:
We know.
(1h 13m 10s)
No, no there wasn’t.
Papaya Plaza
(1h 13m 13s) Al:
Papaya Plaza.
(1h 13m 15s)
Welcome to your new life as a mayor of a tourist town in this small slice of life town building game.
(1h 13m 22s)
Restore the community, meet adorable villagers, and create your dream escape at your own pace.
(1h 13m 26s)
What will you build today?
(1h 13m 28s)
Peep, peep.
(1h 13m 29s) Kevin:
Let’s say, hold on, because this one was not in the uh, uh, the thing.
(1h 13m 34s) Al:
It was.
(1h 13m 35s) Kevin:
Uh.
(1h 13m 35s) Al:
It was in, it was in the montage at the end.
(1h 13m 36s) Kevin:
Was it?
(1h 13m 39s)
Oh, I forgot the montage.
(1h 13m 41s) Al:
Kevin, you got it, you got to keep your eyes open for that montage.
(1h 13m 41s) Kevin:
You know what?
(1h 13m 42s)
I was more excited.
(1h 13m 45s)
I would, no, you know what’s craziest?
(1h 13m 47s)
I was more excited about the montage than the rest of the show, I think.
(1h 13m 51s) Al:
Because it was nice and quick.
(1h 13m 52s) Kevin:
I know, just a lot of the gays, like, oh, I care about that one more.
(1h 13m 57s)
Um, Papaya Plaza.
(1h 13m 59s)
Okay, town building.
(1h 14m 1s) Al:
I think this is cute, this one.
(1h 14m 5s) Kevin:
It is, it’s, um…
(1h 14m 7s) Al:
And this is doing the thing.
(1h 14m 8s)
This is doing the thing that, what was the game recently we played, which was kind of management style game, but you were playing as an individual?
(1h 14m 15s)
Because obviously Super Su story is doing that, but it’s not out yet, but there was something we played recently.
(1h 14m 16s) Kevin:
Ah.
(1h 14m 19s)
Uh, I don’t remember.
(1h 14m 23s)
No, um, I don’t remember.
(1h 14m 23s) Al:
No, no, no.
(1h 14m 24s)
Little rocket lab.
(1h 14m 26s)
It was Little Rocket Lab.
(1h 14m 26s) Kevin:
Oh, oh, that’s, you played it.
(1h 14m 28s)
I haven’t played it, but yes.
(1h 14m 29s) Al:
I played it.
(1h 14m 29s)
I played it.
(1h 14m 30s)
But you’re going to play it.
(1h 14m 32s) Kevin:
I am.
(1h 14m 32s) Al:
Um, so it’s doing the same thing as that where it’s like, it’s a management style game, kind of, but you’re still playing as an individual character.
(1h 14m 40s)
So I am intrigued by this.
(1h 14m 42s)
Um, I’m, I’m, yeah, I think also that style of game makes it more likely to have interesting stories, right?
(1h 14m 46s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 14m 49s) Al:
Because you are a character talking to characters, whereas it’s harder when it’s a management style game to actually care about the,
(1h 14m 52s) Kevin:
Yeah, I agree.
(1h 14m 56s)
Yeah, yeah, no, that’s fair.
(1h 14m 58s)
Yeah, no, okay.
(1h 14m 59s)
It’s cutesy.
(1h 15m)
I like the uh, I should have described it.
(1h 15m 2s)
It’s pixel art again, but um, I don’t know.
(1h 15m 5s)
It feels almost like, uh, not not exactly, um, Tomagachi, but in that kind of direction.
(1h 15m 13s)
Um, yeah, that’s cute.
(1h 15m 14s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 15m 15s) Kevin:
It’s a watermelon person.
(1h 15m 18s) Al:
All right, and our final new game, Bancho the Chef, Bancho the Chef, is a cooking simulation, an adventure game that follows Bancho from Dave the Diver, during his youth on the road to becoming a sushi master.
Bancho The Chef
(1h 15m 30s) Al:
Travel through cities across Asia and experience the joy of cooking firsthand as you follow Bancho’s journey and learn unique local cuisine.
(1h 15m 38s) Kevin:
I’m excited, but you know, I didn’t expect a prequel and not bancho, but yeah.
(1h 15m 42s) Al:
No.
(1h 15m 44s) Kevin:
I’m down for that.
(1h 15m 45s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 15m 46s) Kevin:
I like Bancho as a character and I like cooking, so you know what?
(1h 15m 51s)
Sure, why not?
(1h 15m 52s) Al:
It looks a lot more like mini game focussed, like a lot of the cleaning and cooking and all of that just seems to be like a whole bunch of different mini games.
(1h 15m 57s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 15m 58s)
Yeah.
(1h 15m 59s)
Yeah, you’re you’re not going out spear hunting.
(1h 16m) Al:
So I’m not sure I will enjoy it as much because what I liked about Dave was like the diving and the building up of your restaurant.
(1h 16m 3s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 16m 9s) Al:
Like, I didn’t particularly care about the actual, like, obviously we didn’t do the cooking and that.
(1h 16m 15s)
We just did the like serving people, but even in that I was like, that was not the bit that I…
(1h 16m 17s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 16m 21s)
Yeah, no, that’s fair.
(1h 16m 22s)
And it does look like way more of that.
(1h 16m 24s)
So, I don’t blame you.
(1h 16m 25s)
I’ll be all in, though.
(1h 16m 27s)
I’ll report on it.
(1h 16m 28s) Al:
Oh, I’m sure and I’m sure it will be good.
(1h 16m 28s) Kevin:
Pay yourself for…
(1h 16m 29s) Al:
I’m sure it will, what it does will be done well.
(1h 16m 32s)
I’m just not sure that what it does is what I want to play, you know?
(1h 16m 32s) Kevin:
Oh, yeah, it’ll be quality, absolutely.
(1h 16m 34s)
Yeah, that’s fair.
(1h 16m 37s)
Um, yeah, stay, so stay tuned in for bancho a month next year.
(1h 16m 41s)
Uh,
(1h 16m 42s) Al:
Still kept…
(1h 16m 44s) Kevin:
I can’t, I can’t believe.
(1h 16m 47s)
I don’t know how he pulled it off.
(1h 16m 48s)
Um, okay.
(1h 16m 51s)
is that is that your last one?
Other News
(1h 16m 52s) Kevin:
Uh okay.
(1h 16m 53s)
I’m just so obviously the wholesome director was a lot bigger than this.
(1h 16m 57s)
There were a lot of games that weren’t exactly even college court farming or whatever.
(1h 17m)
Um, I’m just gonna do a quick, just rapid fire mention of a couple I liked.
(1h 17m 4s)
Um, uh, let’s see, dungeon tours, tourists.
(1h 17m 5s) Al:
Go for it.
(1h 17m 8s) Kevin:
Did you see that one?
(1h 17m 10s) Al:
Yeah, it was basically Pokemon Snap.
(1h 17m 11s) Kevin:
Pokemon Snap.
(1h 17m 12s)
that’s all I need
(1h 17m 13s)
It’s Pokemon Snap.
(1h 17m 14s)
That’s all I need.
(1h 17m 15s)
Um, uh, let’s see, here we’ve got, uh, you know what?
(1h 17m 21s)
No, I just got skip that one.
(1h 17m 22s)
That’s not worth.
(1h 17m 23s)
Weird Boy looks cute.
(1h 17m 25s)
It looks like it’ll make you cry, that durable probably die at the end of the game.
(1h 17m 28s)
That’s fine.
(1h 17m 28s)
Um, you’ve got, uh, you’ve got, what was the other one?
(1h 17m 35s)
Tales are sick.
(1h 17m 37s)
Well, we already know that one.
(1h 17m 37s)
I’m excited by that.
(1h 17m 38s)
There’s no news.
(1h 17m 39s)
I just like it.
(1h 17m 40s) Al:
Standard.
(1h 17m 40s) Kevin:
Um, there, yeah, rub my wee part lit up at that.
(1h 17m 45s)
We got Rubber Bird.
(1h 17m 47s)
That’s not cottage core, but it’s very funny looking.
(1h 17m 50s)
Um, you’re just, it’s a bird with rubber arms, you know, one of those physics type game.
(1h 17m 54s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 17m 55s) Kevin:
Um, very, very funny, cute looking.
(1h 17m 57s)
Um, there was, well, waterfall.
(1h 18m)
This one, I think.
(1h 18m 1s)
Oh, maybe a little closer to our fair.
(1h 18m 3s)
looks like Tara nil.
(1h 18m 5s)
Where you’re kind of terraforming.
(1h 18m 6s)
It’s just a terraforming game, but it looks like you’re focussing on the water aspects, like growing rivers and lakes.
(1h 18m 11s)
Uh, that looks pretty cool.
(1h 18m 13s)
I like that.
(1h 18m 14s)
Um, Also, questions mentioned.
(1h 18m 17s)
I excited about that.
(1h 18m 17s)
I can’t believe they did a game called Pelican Post.
(1h 18m 20s)
Just ripping off Animal Crossing, just the Pelican mail in person.
(1h 18m 23s)
And they did a whole game on that.
(1h 18m 25s)
Okay, you you go, you crazy people.
(1h 18m 26s)
Uh, let’s see, but, uh, yeah, I think that’s, that’s kind of it, again, there’s a lot of stuff on.
(1h 18m 32s)
They probably skipped over a few, but, uh, You know, I’ll say that for my post credits.
(1h 18m 38s)
Oh, okay.
(1h 18m 38s)
Um, that’s it.
(1h 18m 40s)
That’s it.
(1h 18m 40s)
That’s all I’ve got.
(1h 18m 42s)
Um, um, I was just gonna say, somebody did a 3D model of Moss Slacks, and it’s very good.
(1h 18m 46s)
Good for you.
(1h 18m 46s)
One of the presenters, like the real person.
(1h 18m 50s)
Um, uh, yeah.
(1h 18m 51s) Al:
Okay, Kevin, I don’t know if you’ve seen this in the show notes.
(1h 18m 54s)
There’s one more thing we need to talk about.
(1h 18m 55s) Kevin:
There is, I didn’t see this.
(1h 18m 55s) Al:
Wild society.
(1h 18m 57s) Kevin:
I’m sad.
(1h 18m 58s)
I’m sad.
(1h 18m 58s) Al:
Wild society.
(1h 18m 59s) Kevin:
I’m sad.
(1h 19m)
Why was this kind of the wholesome direct?
(1h 19m) Al:
Have not, you want, good question.
Wylde Society
(1h 19m 3s) Al:
Wild society have not announced a release date, sadly for you.
(1h 19m 7s)
However, they have given us a new trailer with a walkthrough of how the rituals feature works, which is their magic, right?
(1h 19m 19s)
Any thoughts?
(1h 19m 21s) Kevin:
I’m kind of poking through it.
(1h 19m 23s)
Um, it’s, it’s interesting because it’s very different from uh, uh, wild flowers where uh, that was just basically a crafting thing.
(1h 19m 33s)
Um, and causing some busts.
(1h 19m 35s)
But here you’re out foraging and you’re like arranging stuff into space.
(1h 19m 39s)
I think that’s pretty cool.
(1h 19m 41s)
Um, it looks in depth.
(1h 19m 44s)
like they’re putting effort into it.
(1h 19m 45s)
Let’s say that.
(1h 19m 46s)
Um, yeah, I know, it’s, it’s novel.
(1h 19m 50s)
It’s different, right?
(1h 19m 51s)
When they, you put a little more emphasis than just crafting.
(1h 19m 54s)
Yeah, cool.
(1h 19m 56s)
I think it’s novel.
(1h 19m 57s)
It’ll be interesting to see how to, um,
(1h 19m 57s) Al:
Did you have, were you able to ride on a broom in the last game?
(1h 20m 1s) Kevin:
Uh, I was about to say that uh, it was your quick travel, basically.
(1h 20m 5s) Al:
Right, okay.
(1h 20m 5s) Kevin:
But here you actually control the flying, which is very different.
(1h 20m 6s) Al:
Yeah, it looks like it’s more.
(1h 20m 8s) Kevin:
Yeah, so that will be interesting.
(1h 20m 12s)
Yeah, very interesting.
(1h 20m 13s)
Uh,
(1h 20m 14s)
Well, I mean, we all know it’s well, I don’t care.
(1h 20m 17s)
Who cares?
(1h 20m 18s)
I’m going to play it anyway.
(1h 20m 19s)
will not be stopped.
(1h 20m 20s)
Um.
(1h 20m 20s) Al:
Yeah.
(1h 20m 22s)
It will be interesting to see what you think once you actually…
(1h 20m 26s) Kevin:
Yeah.
(1h 20m 26s)
Yeah, wouldn’t that be nice?
(1h 20m 28s)
They’re waiting for GTA to announce it so they can announce on the same day.
Outro
(1h 20m 36s) Al:
All right.
(1h 20m 36s) Kevin:
Good.
(1h 20m 36s) Al:
I think that’s everything then for now.
(1h 20m 39s)
Maybe with the stuff we’ve missed and we’ll talk about it in future episodes, but like there’s a lot there.
(1h 20m 44s)
Goodness, there’s a lot.
(1h 20m 47s) Kevin:
So many.
(1h 20m 49s) Al:
All right, Kevin, is there anything you’d like to share with the audience?
(1h 20m 51s) Kevin:
Yeah, I’m not specific, well, no, not specifically, and Cooper, wherever find me, if you can.
(1h 20m 58s)
I don’t promise anything exciting.
(1h 20m 59s)
In fact, I promise it probably will not be exciting.
(1h 21m 1s)
Um, Bug the stuff out.
(1h 21m 2s) Al:
Calm down.

(1h 21m 27s) Kevin:
What are you up?
(1h 21m 28s)
What are you upset that we didn’t talk about?
(1h 21m 30s) Al:
Um, what what do you want to be sarcastic about as well?
(1h 21m 34s)
join us in being sarcastic about things.
(1h 21m 37s) Kevin:

And you get bonus episodes of the podcast, which, hopefully, assuming that we’re both still awake, we’re about to record one on other summer Game Fest stuff that we’re interested in.
(1h 22m 6s) Kevin:
More things coming out.
(1h 22m 8s)
They’re probably be a Nintendo director, I would say.
(1h 22m 10s)
Probably, at some point.
(1h 22m 11s) Al:
Yeah, but that’s not going to be in this greenhouse.
(1h 22m 12s) Kevin:
No, not the screenhouse.
(1h 22m 15s) Al:
That’s a, look, that’s a whole other greenhouse episode to do on its own.
(1h 22m 15s) Kevin:
There are a lot of games, people.
(1h 22m 19s)
It is.
(1h 22m 20s)
We care about those, yes.
(1h 22m 23s)
No, but for now, we…
(1h 22m 24s) Al:
All right, I think that’s everything.
(1h 22m 25s)
Thank you, Kevin for joining me again.
(1h 22m 27s) Kevin:
That’s all.
(1h 22m 28s)
Thank you all for having me on.
(1h 22m 30s) Al:
Thank you listeners for listening. and until next time,
(1h 22m 32s)
Have a good many, many games.
(1h 22m 34s) Kevin:
Have good heart.
(1h 22m 36s)
Too many games.

(1h 23m 12s) Kevin:
Beast folk barber.
(1h 23m 14s)
Did you see that one now?
(1h 23m 15s) Al:
I did I did see that.
(1h 23m 17s) Kevin:
All I have to say, I,
(1h 23m 18s) Al:
I’ve seen it all now.
(1h 23m 21s) Kevin:
The only one, the line, I’m just gonna quote the line right from the trailer.
(1h 23m 27s)
Uh, it’s not real dating unless it’s interspecies.
(1h 23m 31s)
That’s all.
(1h 23m 32s)
There you go, folks.
(1h 23m 32s) Al:
I don’t know what to say.
(1h 23m 34s)
They just announced a new cassette piece game.
(1h 23m 37s) Kevin:
What? No!
(1h 23m 37s) Al:
Like, while while we’ve been recording, they just announced cassette beasts, 2002.
(1h 23m 41s) Kevin:
Hold it.
(1h 23m 42s)
Okay, wait, wait, wait, wait.
(1h 23m 47s)
Where, where, where, where?
(1h 23m 51s)
I’m in studio two.
(1h 23m 52s)
I would literally want the recording 2 hours ago.
(1h 23m 54s) Al:
Literally while we’ve been recording.
(1h 23m 55s) Kevin:
On the PC gaming show.
(1h 23m 58s)
Where is it?
(1h 23m 59s)
All that, I’m looking for this.
(1h 24m 2s)
I need to find this live reaction.
(1h 24m 4s)
Oh.
(1h 24m 5s) Al:
I’ll send you the I’ll send you the video, shall I?
(1h 24m 5s) Kevin:
What?
(1h 24m 9s)
Do you have the, is it is there a trailer directly for it?
(1h 24m 11s)
Because see, I have the show here.
(1h 24m 12s) Al:
Yeah, I’ve got the just the trailer directly.
(1h 24m 13s) Kevin:
I just have to comb through.
(1h 24m 15s)
Okay.
(1h 24m 16s)
There was another game I would have talked about.
(1h 24m 22s)
I can’t remember, I think it was just Godzilla, actually, because there’s a bunch of just random announcements just floating around too.
(1h 24m 28s)
That’s the problem.
(1h 24m 29s)
Holy moly.
(1h 24m 30s) Al:
Yep.
(1h 24m 32s) Kevin:
Oh, wait, did you send it?
(1h 24m 36s) Al:
I sent it on Zooms.
(1h 24m 36s) Kevin:
Uh.
(1h 24m 38s)
Oh, on Zoom?
(1h 24m 39s)
Okay.
(1h 24m 39s)
Oh, well, that’s fine.
(1h 24m 40s)
That works too.
(1h 24m 41s)
Uh.
(1h 24m 45s)
Done it.
(1h 24m 46s)
Okay, let’s see here.
(1h 24m 47s)
Holy moly.
(1h 24m 50s)
Oh, good thing you record.
(1h 24m 51s)
Oh, we just said bye.
(1h 24m 54s)
Okay, I’m watching the trailer.
(1h 24m 56s)
Magical girl transformation and a lot of new beasts, British accent.
(1h 25m 2s) Al:
It’s set in London, apparently.
(1h 25m 2s) Kevin:
Oh, oh, that is that why?
(1h 25m 4s) Al:
Yeah, it says, it says set in London in 2002.
(1h 25m 5s) Kevin:
2002?
(1h 25m 9s)
Oh, that’s fun.
(1h 25m 10s) Al:
Coming to Xbox PS5, switch to…
(1h 25m 10s) Kevin:
Whoa.
(1h 25m 15s)
That’s whoa.
(1h 25m 17s)
They’re going like full 3D.
(1h 25m 19s)
All these British accents.
(1h 25m 22s)
Wow, the whole camera is just going full 3D.
(1h 25m 25s) Al:
Yeah, but all the like models still look the same like 2D Sprites.
(1h 25m 30s) Kevin:
Yeah, kind of this like I, yeah, like Paper Mario-ish sticking.
(1h 25m 33s) Al:
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
(1h 25m 34s) Kevin:
What is it, octopath kind of thing?
(1h 25m 35s)
Yeah, but the camera’s rotating.
(1h 25m 38s)
That’s wild.
(1h 25m 39s)
Um, Very interesting.
(1h 25m 42s)
I don’t know what this is going to work story wise because, uh, there was no lead up at all, no no hook for a sequel at all.
(1h 25m 51s)
And I can tell because everyone’s new, so it’s all new cast.
(1h 25m 53s) Al:
Well, it’s presumably it’s a prequel if it’s set in 2000 too.
(1h 25m 55s) Kevin:
Uh, the original, there was no clear indication what it was.
(1h 25m 59s)
In fact, my was, it felt like it was said earlier even, um, the early, the 1st one was not on, you know, it was, it was in a different world and they didn’t have like digital to,
(1h 26m 4s) Al:
Think?
(1h 26m 10s)
Yeah, I know.
(1h 26m 11s) Kevin:
I don’t know, maybe.
(1h 26m 12s)
Yeah, that’s a good point.
(1h 26m 12s)
Maybe it could be a prequel.
(1h 26m 13s) Al:
There’s clearly something because like in the trailer, they’re like, oh, uh, are we not on air?
(1h 26m 13s) Kevin:
You’re right.
(1h 26m 14s)
don’t know.
(1h 26m 14s)
There’s no.
(1h 26m 19s)
Yeah.
(1h 26m 19s)
Yeah, we’ll see.
(1h 26m 21s)
I don’t know.
(1h 26m 21s)
It might be, it’s, whatever.
(1h 26m 23s)
This is why there’s no clear hooks, but it’s also just whatever.
(1h 26m 27s)
Little magical dimension spaces happen, so it could just be wherever.
(1h 26m 31s)
Oh man, I’m so excited.
(1h 26m 33s)
There’s, there’s all these new beasts.
(1h 26m 35s)
What is going on?
(1h 26m 36s)
There’s real, you’re in the real world, earth area, it looks like.
(1h 26m 39s)
Um, yeah, this, this looks very different.
(1h 26m 42s)
Obviously, I’m very excited.
(1h 26m 43s)
I trust them, but uh,
(1h 26m 45s)
Cool, cool.
(1h 26m 47s) Al:
Yeah, I just felt we needed to record that.
(1h 26m 48s)
Question is, is this going to be a post-credit for the main episode or for the greenhouse?
(1h 26m 53s) Kevin:
I just, I don’t know what at both.
(1h 26m 54s) Al:
I feel like this is a main episode post-credit, right?
(1h 26m 56s) Kevin:
Both. Sure.
(1h 26m 58s)
Sure, there’s your, right after the interspecies thing.
